The worst place in town as far as parking lot. There are deep deep holes everywhere. God forbid you go there when it's raining or there's snow on the ground and you can't see them. My husband had to have his car fixed after hitting one of the gigantic holes in the parking lot. They are convenient to where I live. On many occasions the shelf price is different from the charged price. At times I don't notice until I get home. When I am still at the store I get a refund but they don't do anything to correct the problem so other people get ripped off. I have never had the price error work in my favor after dozens of incidents in two years or so. Seems fishy to me. read more

Adequate grocery store with pretty good produce and deli. Meat section is okay and everything else is standard. This store has been the leader in this end of town for years but the new Giant store is quickly taking customers, staff, and sales. On my tour of all of State College's supermarkets, I ended up at Weis Markets. I was a little skeptical of this place upon going inside. It looked to me like a Longs Drugs/Duane Reade, and the selection was definitely not up to par. Sure they have what you'd expect from a supermarket, but just not much of it. If you don't have a car and live nearby, I guess I understand. But if you have a car, skip this and go to Wegmans or Giant for a real supermarket. read more

I lived across the street from this location and despite that, rarely shopped there. Weis isn't the worst of markets by any means but man, this location sucks hardcore. I've found everything from spoiled meat in the deli, expired goods on the shelves to "tangy," green hot dogs in the freezer case. On more than one occasion I caught staff members picking food products off the floor and restocking them. Nope, not the boxed food, but the fresh goods. Ie, one quiet evening near closing while I was looking for onions, one of the produce clerks was mopping the area around the organic veggies, etc when she bumped into a head of lettuce which of course fell and rolled a good two feet across the blackened, wet floor. Total yuckage. Any sane person would have simply tossed it. Nope. I caught her picking it up and literally placing it back in the pile soap, grunge and all. Um no. To add, the selection is pretty bare and the customer service lacking. After that instance I rarely stopped in, only picking up things like soda and chips. Not to mention their Western Union system was frequently down. Ugh. That combined with the spoiled meat I've found in the deli and the moderately expensive prices made traveling up the street to the other Weis location completely worth it if you must shop someplace close. read more

Despite all the negative reviews, this Weis isn't as horrible or disgusting as they say. Granted, my experience is from this year, where they've certainly made improvements. They are undergoing some sort of construction now but before that I would stop here while riding back from campus to pick up the stray grocery item I couldn't get, or ran out of by mid week. The inside is clean, it doesn't smell like rotting produce. The selection of produce is normal, compared to other Weis in the area. Their bakery/bread selection is very slim but this is a much smaller store, so the selection of every section follows this pattern. Since their gas point system is weird (compared to Giant which is much easier to accrue points), I don't shop here mainly. For the sake of getting your basics midweek, this place works well. read more

Wow. What an amazing job they did on my flower bouquet for my wife on Valentine's Day. Told them my wife liked purple and they really came through. I never knew a grocery store could make a wonderful and gorgeous bouquet like they did. And I was also surprised at the price. It was a lot less than I would think are any florist would be for the arrangement that I received. The store really went above and beyond. I love this store, this store is the friendly store. Everyone is helpful, even with the masks on you can see the Smiles on their faces. Most everything I need is there, I do shop Trader Joe's for a few odd items that no other store carries. The produce and meat selections are very good . You ask for a certain cut they cut it . The Deli had a lot of great items too. Great people to get what I want. All around my favorite store . Shopping there for years. read more

This store has just finished most of the construction. I like that this store is open 24 hours which makes it convenient when I need to pick up something late at night or early in the morning without having to pay exorbitant fees at stores like Unimart or Sheetz. I am not a fan of the new long aisles that they currently have. Prices are reasonable and are better if you are a Weis club card member. They do double coupons up to $1 and if you are a member you will sometimes get the store coupons on what you buy. This place can get busy when the high school lets out with all the students in the store and can have long lines even in the self checkout lines. read more

I'd like to note that a good local term for this place is 'the ghetto Weis'. That is, it is it meets two different meanings of the word ghetto: 1. a section of a city, especially a thickly populated slum area, inhabited predominantly by members of an ethnic or other minority group, often as a result of social or economic restrictions, pressures, or hardships. This matches this store. it is surrounded by student and elderly housing, and they often seem to have to shop there, not choose to shop there. 6. Often Disparaging and Offensive . noting something that is considered to be unrefined, low-class, cheap, or inferior: It is unrefined, low-class, cheap, and inferior. The pluses are that it is in a location that is convenient sometimes. The minuses are that the staff are indifferent (and there are stories of managers who lose it when their staff don't come in!), the require the use of a bonus card, and unlike Giant do not provide a 'store's bonus card'; the produce is often but not always poor; and the condition of the store looks often like it has had hoards of students in it. So, I go there when I have to, but only when I have to. And, we refer to it as the ghetto Weis. read more

Skip it. Worth the trip to go to Giant, Wegmans, or even Wal-Mart. It's fine if you have last minute groceries to pick up, but don't go here if you have a shopping list to fill. It has all the staples, but not much more. The prices are average and the store is harsh looking. read more

Ah, weis. Not as nice as Wegman's. Maybe a little cheaper, but not open 24 hours. I used to walk here from downtown State College, it's a little far and takes a little planning so your ice cream doesn't melt, but the bus that goes here has odd and inconvenient hours. read more

Fine grocery store for the basics. Doesn't have the greatest selection of foods, but has all the staples. As a transplant to PA, I was surprised they didn't sell alcohol, but turns out that's by PA law (grocery stores have to have a separate alcohol section with specific cash registers in order to sell alcohol). Otherwise a fine, no-frills grocery store with helpful and friendly staff. read more

This is a terrible supermarket. I cannot speak for the rest of the chain, having only shopped here, but if other stores are anything like this one, I will avoid them like the plague. Having shopped at this store semi-regularly for well over a year, my will is finally broken and I have resolved to never shop here again--regardless of the inconvenience. Wegman's, Giant, and Walmart far surpass this store in every respect except for convenience of location, something which I'm more than happy to overlook, even though I live very close by. Why is this a terrible store? Well, because it does nothing right. First, the prices are terrible compared to other local stores. I haven't done a scientific comparison, but unlike with the aforementioned markets, I always leave Weis feeling ripped off. Usually this is simply high prices for basic goods. More flagrantly, there have been multiple occasions on which I have been charged more than the listed price at the register. I let the store get away with this so many times, because it's not worth it to make a stink over 50 cents here and there. This brings me to my second point: terrible service. Good luck trying to find an employee whom you can talk to if you do have pricing issues, especially at night--only the self-serve registers are open, and you can stand there waiting for help for as long as you please without seeing any employees. They seem to purposefully avoid the checkout area so that they don't have to help you. If you do finally manage to flag down an employee, enjoy being helped by someone either surly, unhelpful, or both. One time I had to stand at the self-serve register for minutes on end, just trying to get someone to resolve my problem. The machine said wait for customer service, and I pressed the help light... no one. Finally, I preceded to explain my problem to the sullen woman who arrived, but she gave me no responses, and appeared not to notice me as she hastily punched in some numbers and shuffled away without a word. I can assuredly say that I can rarely check out at the self-service machines (the only ones available) without some slowdown, mishap, or problem on Weis's part. The store is now open 24 hours, but this is hardly a convenience. Besides the impossibility of finding customer service, the store might not even be available. Recently I tried to pick up a few simple items late at night--to my surprise, over 50% of the store's isle's were taped off for floor cleaning. Even though only one isle at a time was being cleaned--and very slowly at that--it was impossible to access the vast majority of the store's goods. After searching in vain for an employee who could help me, I finally asked the cleaning crew if I could quickly grab something (which was within eye-shot) before they began cleaning the isle. "Sorry guy," was all I got. I was forced to leave empty handed. If you do manage to get access to the products, you'll find that although they are over-priced, there is very little selection, and what they do have is of a very low quality. The produce section represents the store very well--it's poorly stocked and undesirable. You always feel like you're getting the bottom of the barrel. Bananas are frequently not to be found. Good luck trying to buy basic produce without feeling disappointed. Tomatoes are consistently soft, bruised, and pale. I am by no means a picky shopper, but I always find myself picking through the produce attempting to assemble a bag of passable fruit. I can't think of anything to recommend this store, except maybe that I've never had any problems in the parking lot or with fellow unfortunate customers (who usually smile patiently and knowingly as they stand in line behind you, while you are waiting for an employee to help you). I could go on, but I have had enough with Weis. I have given them a fair chance. I have shopped at their store many, many times, putting up with substandard service, prices, and quality all because it was conveniently located. No more. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself by going somewhere else. read more

You know, contrary to what a lot of the reviews say, "Ghetto" is an endearing term that us locals use. The store is not in an overpriced, fancy shancy strip mall, and it may not be the prettiest store in the chain, but it's clean, well stocked, has a great variety of ethnic items and an excellent meat department, deli, and bakery. Because the store is small (and btw the top grossing in the chain) the items sold are usually extremely fresh. Did I mention their unbeatable sales and friendly and helpful staff? If you're too snooty to shop there, please, by all means join the rest of the snobs up on Colonnade Blvd. read more

No Pizza delivery was available in State College on Thanksgiving but Weis had pickup available. Diane at the deli said we wouldn't be disappointed how good their pizza is and she was correct. Thanks Diane you made some kids very happy today! read more
