After being told we were accepted for the unit we loved, I was told that another person had moved…read moreinto our unit without a completed lease and that it was too difficult to make them leave, therefore even though they sent us a lease, the apartment was not ours. I would never want to live under a property management that allows people without a closed lease to move-in. Very unprofessional and not a safe way to conduct a rental business.

There is not an option to give no stars so I will give my story below:…read more Extremely shady business! My roommate and I went to see an apartment on 2 different occasions. On the second occasion she informed the "building manager" we were interested and that she had not so great credit but she did have a co-signer and that I had good credit but if they wanted a co-signed I could provide one (this was on the 29th of the month). He replied that he understood....who doesn't have credit problems these days. On the 4th we emailed him our applications and put our payments through to him on Paypal. On the 9th my roommate contacted him for a status and he told us that he had been on vacation but that he would process it right away. She didn't want to harass him so she didn't call him again until the 14th. She left him a voice mail and told him that she was working so he could call or text her with any updates/status. On the 17th she still has not had her phone call returned so I emailed him explaining that we put in an application in the beginning of the month and were just was looking for a status and to confirm the apartment was still available. A response was sent within 20 minutes that your application was denied. I immediately emailed him back and asked if it was a credit issue (which if it is they have to notify you of that and give you all the information about who ran the credit check). No response. I waited a couple of hours and figured maybe he doesn't know the answer as to why it was denied so I emailed him again and requested contact information for the management company. The next day I still had not had any response back from him so I called him and requested to know why were denied. I was informed that they took another application. I asked if they applied before us and he said they submitted at the same time as us. I requested to know if a letter was sent to us explaining that our application was denied. He said there would be a letter sent. I asked when and he said I would need to talk to the office about that. Then he states that the person who does that at the office is out today. So I call the office and the option for the rental person does not answer and the mailbox is full. I call back and get someone in accounting and ask for the person the "building manager" had told me I needed to talk to who I am immediately transferred to. I explain the whole situation to the person on the phone who I have to admit was extremely nice and apologetic about the situation. I explained how we put in an application and that I wanted to know when I would be getting a letter explaining the rejection and a copy of the completed application. She said she would have to research and find that information and while I am on the phone with her I get an email from the "building manager" which has been forwarded from the Vice president of the management company (dated today) stating they have decided to move forward with another applicant. Now I have absolutely no issue that they choose another applicant. My issue stems from the fact that the "building manager" could not return a phone call and would not respond to any emails. Especially when we had provided very personal information (bank accounts, credit cards, socials, etc). Also, another problem I have is that my credit was not checked, employment verified or personal references called. Neither was my roommate or her co-signer. I feel like they had another applicant the entire time that they had already approved and just want our application fee. Can I prove this? No, it's just my theory. In conclusion the property we looked at was beautiful, not much storage, but the rehab on the building was stunning. But the building cannot make up for the management style of Svigos, or lack of management as I should put it. I would just say be cautious if/when dealing with them. On their buildings they are listed as Managed by S.A.M.
