The path trough the distillery follows each step of the process from the cultivation and processing of the grain, to the distilling, to the point where the whisky is fully aged in wooden barrels and ready to bottle. The signage (in multiple languages including English) explains the ingredients, the equipment, and the process in great detail. I might also add that the distilling equipment (constructed with lots of copper) is beautiful and immaculately maintained. You can also smell the yeasty aroma of fermentation and the aging whisky (the "angels share") throughout the distillery. At the end of the tour you arrive at the tasting room where the price of the tour includes two samples, a Slyrs Whisky (43% ABV), a liqueur (about 20% ABV), and a glass of "Wasser" (0% ABV) to clear the palate. Additional tastings may be purchased for about 5-7 Euro per glass (the price varies by product). We purchased a tasting of their oldest whisky to compare with their standard product. You'll have to judge for yourself, but I found the most aged whisky definitely more interesting and complex on the palate than the younger product. There is a cafe on the premises but we didn't visit it. Finally, for those who are interested, all of Slyrs' products are available for purchase. The next time I'm visiting my friends in Germany and Austria I'm going to save a bit of room in my suit case for a bottle to take home!

The whole building smells great, like whisky and barrels and not only are the barrels and I formation great but the views of the mountains and the architecture of the building are amazing as well! At the end of your tour you end up in a tasting area overlooking the mountains and so much green! They let you sample a couple whisky and then you can taste a great selection of others for just €2. This is great especially if you're trying to figure out what to purchase from the shop. We sat in the tasting area for a few hours chatting with the staff, people watching during some of the big tours and trying to decide what to take home with us and what to get for gifts. Our favorites are the Honey Vanilla liqueur the Bavarian Cream the Alpine Herb liqueur... Pretty much the sweeter stuff. However, all of their choices are great. They also have merchandise, candy, jellies, BBQ sauce and other great items if you're looking for a cool present for someone. They just added a cafe too so if you need some food to go with your drinks head on up! If you haven't been to Slyrs yet I would definitely recommend it!

As a result the beer brewed by the monks are very tasty, and nutritious. In the heart of Bavaria, on the outskirts of Bad Toelz, is a monastery brewing awesome beer since 1677, before the establishment of America! Park your vehicle or van/bus and walk up the hill...(another hill...monasteries seem to all be located on hillsides) and enter the dining area where there are booths and fest tables. Depending upon the number in your party, select a fest table or find a booth so you can enjoy the beautiful Bavarian countryside. NOTE: there may be a RESERVED or STAMMTISCH sign reserving the booth for a certain time - honor it, it's reserved for a reason. I was fortunate and found an open booth - a waitress in traditional Bavarian attire arrived and took my order. Some beer and brats with red cabbage + potato salad (had my fill of schweinenhachsen at my previous stop). A truly tasty combination. Located outside of Bad Toelz, the monastery/brewery is located in a beautiful and scenic location. Depending upon the time of year you visit, there may be cyclists in the area so be conscious of them. The best part of visiting Reutberger Kloster is you can bring back home some of the delicious and tasty beers in 0.5 liter bottles - I did!

I would definitely recommend a stop here. The beer is great, and the food is excellent. The view is also amazing, so an afternoon spent on their balcony is worth the trip!
