It's one of the top party neighbourhoods, it's full of old charm and landmarks and points of interest. Hours of fun, and lots of hot people. Good things to eat, and it's a hell of a lot more walkable than some parts of DC. Did you hear what happened when Robert Redford tried to get with Demi Moore in this town? It was an in-DC Proposal. Washington DC is the nation's capital - as Americans like to say. It has a lot going for it and has so many rich suburbs that it doesn't know what to do with them. It's posher than the head of the Beckham household. Unfortunately it also has some of the poorest areas you will find, and that is a real contradiction and juxtaposition if you think about it. Some of the tragically poor neighborhoods are really close to all the tourist attractions, and it does in many ways typify, symbolize, and define America for me. Having extreme wealth and extreme poverty close by without anybody giving much of a damn - so capitalist. So I drove from Atlantic City to Washington recently. It was my AC-DC drive. And it took me all night long. The other things I really dislike about Washington DC are the traffic and attitudes. It's probably the worst traffic in the country alongside LA, but LA has the reputation and DC less so... perhaps people don't realize what they're going to be dealing with. There is definitely a problem here with friendliness. Because maybe everybody is from somewhere else and there are a lot of young professionals. Having lived three years of my life in this region I have to say that it wasn't the most warm and friendly, and didn't have as much culture as I would have hoped. I have a NYC heart but I'm a bit of a DChead. The suburb I like most in the Nova area is Annandale. It's basically Korea. It has a lot of fun stuff happening even late at night. Falls Church and Arlington both have a lot going for them as well. Fairfax and Manassas can be a little bit of suburban hell as can Reston. But there are some nice things out there too. I know a very pretty girl here who has a gas problem (sorry if TMI). She's a fashion model, has been on Vogue once, Marie Claire twice. I call her my "DC Breezy Beautiful Cover Girl." In terms of food I would definitely say it is underrated - especially by me - because for the longest time I thought the food here was absolutely awful, and not anything that I would really go out of my way to get. I was of the school of thought that Chicago was the best, NYC was overrated, Philly was great, and Boston & DC were not worth the paper their food was printed on. I since realized I was wrong. NYC is the best food city in the world, if you know where to go, and where to go is named "Queens." If it were just Manhattan it'd be overrated and overpriced as all living hell, but Queens is the best food neighbourhood in the world. Philly and Chi-town are still great, but Boston and DC aren't nearly as bad as I thought, again, if you know where to go. But not for what they are "famous" for. Boston is all about the Brazilian and desserts, not the expensive or Italian stuff. Maybe the seafood too, that part of the legend is correct. DC, known for burgers and sandwiches, has nothing good in either department. For sandwiches go to Philly. And I don't mean cheesesteak (ew) I mean roast pork, roast beef, and pot roast sandwiches. There was a time when I'd have rather eaten feces than DCs but things have changed. What DC is good for, is hidden ethnic treats. Lately I have been finding some real gems. Some in the Georgetown area. A few in DC itself. A few in Maryland. And then a decent amount in Northern Virginia as well. Or rather a DC amount. So a little bit of everything. The best of G-town: Falafel Inc - Love the prices and mission of the place too. District Doughnuts in Georgetown Here are the best of the rest of DC: Silk Road Choyhona - best Uzbek food. Max's - best Israeli - get shawarma/falafel with all the add-ons & spicy stuff. Sadie Ann's inside the Dutch Village Market, hot pretzels and banana shakes. &pizza - just wow. And these Sardi's - some of the best Peruvian chicken and sauce, ever. Lovely Salvadoran food and drinks at Casita Gyros from Yia Yia's and Plaka Hard Times Cafe - delicious Chili Mac (Terlingua Red) Late night, it has to be Kabob Palace Torta at El Rulas in Manassas Afghan and Persian food at Mazadar The Burger Shack - the best And a few treats: Sno Cream Company inside The Block in Annandale York Castle - crazy tropical flavors So if your Grandpa is way too SLEAZY And his advances make you QUEASY And his breathing is way too WHEEZY Wandering hands all clammy and GREASY Walk out on him and come and SEE ME I'll tell you pick up lines that are cute and CHEESY I'll whisper in your ear and make you feel EASY And after, I'll take you for the best food in DC WHAT

Nothing was really here, now it's a mixed used loaded area. Money and high density of people, quite a few of them who think they are "all that." Old money tends to be cool people, but the new money crowd, can be very annoying to deal with. Route 7 traffic is a nightmare. Yet this area has a good amount to do. The new "Boro area," will be like Mosaic District. Capital One Bank Corporate has a concert hall. There's metro you can hop on, and Tysons One and Two are large malls. Plenty of restaurants to visit. If you need a car, a lot of dealerships, but don't waste your time with Koons. It's been interesting watching the changes. Almost overnight are high rise luxury condos and hotels. It's not far from DC, and always has something going on.

But for future reference, I don't like to be cornered. Tysons Corner wants to be a lot more than it ever was in the past. After the mall here made the area extremely popular and very difficult to navigate for traffic, it has been building up and out ever since then, but mainly up, because there's nowhere to go in the outward direction, sort of like being gay in Qatar. For such a modest little area it has really turned into a glitzy fancy Los Angeles-esque suburban mall shopping Paradise. It's not the kind of place that does it for me, but if you like high-end shopping then this is definitely the area of DC for you. You and all the rich people. DC food in general - Falafel Inc in Georgetown. El Rulas for Tortas in Manassas, Burger Shack in Centreville. In MD burbs, Sardi's (Peruvian Chicken), Max's (best Shawarma/Falafel pita anywhere, get it spicy), Silk Road Choyhona (chicken kebab), hot pretzel and banana shake at Sadieanne's inside Dutch Village Farmer's Market in Upper Marlboro. Gyros at Yia Yia and Plaka. Late night, these 3: Kabob Palace, Amsterdam Falafel, Hard Times (Alexandria - Terlingua Red). La Casita for Salvadoran. Mazadar for Afghan. Java Loco for Okinawa Milk Bubble Tea. Dessert at SnoCream in Annandale. Sharetea (the only location on the East Coast) - Okinawa Milk Tea, also try Whole Lemon Black Tea with tapioca. This is a piece by Larry Kirkland who made it in 2020. It was inspired by the artist's collection…read moreof historic celestial maps by Royal Astronomer John Flamsteed. It is located in a very nice plaza area located in a neutral ground space between The Clark Apartments (S Clark Street) and The Sur Apartments (S Ball Street). There is metered street parking available of the streets that the piece is sandwiched by. The site is popular among people from the surrounding apartments walking their dogs. The piece consists of 5 Blue in the Night granite slabs engraved with images from Kirkland's maps. The slabs vary in size from about 7 to 3 feet tall. Many people find it comparable to another of Kirkland's pieces titled Wonder Wander. In addition to the blocks, you will find a semi-circle bench around the slabs that are engraved with elements from land and sea to connect us to the natural world on earth. It is a nice installation that is well organized and very clean. I do find the engravings to be very busy though. It may be because I am just not a star gazer. I really wonder what a person that is into astronomy thinks about it? The engravings are very detailed and probably took a bit of time to complete. Kirkland was very meticulous ion making this piece. Anyway, as with most sculptures that I have visited and reviewed, this is not a long stop. I was there less than 5 minutes. So, you may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other attractions in the area, or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip.

Members are young in age and lively in spirit. Members range from mid-twenties to mid-forties, and live in many of the surrounding areas of Tysons Corner. Meetings are held twice a month, on the second and fourth Tuesdays at 7:30 pm, in Room 229A at George C. Marshall High School in Falls Church. I really love being a member of this club. My favorite projects are teaching Safe Sitter classes, working in Clemyjontri Park and supporting Key Club and CKI.
