I must say that the prices was very reasonable compared to other optical shops. The cost of my exam was only 35 euros for me to get an exam for glasses and contacts. I was really happy with their service. It was nice to deal with someone professional and informative. I don't always come across that when dealing with a health matter in Amsterdam. Eyewish opticiens is a chain of optical shops that are located all over the Netherlands, so you should have no problem running across one, but if your are very picky about service, than I would suggest the optical shop on Rijnstraat. Don't slack on getting an eye exam, in order to maintain a healthy vision, you should visit your optician at least every 2 years, to check for glaucoma, if your vision is slightly decreasing due to TV, computer or the sun, and if you are a diabetic, or have any health risk factors that may affect your eyes. In addition, if you wear contacts your check up should be at least once a year. Remember your eyes are one of the most important part of your body.

The frame screw fell out, which loosened the lens in my eyeglasses. A spare pair just needed tightening. A friendly and gracious associate greeted me, assessed the situation and offered me a water while I waited. In no time at all, my glasses were ready and I was on my way. If I ever have the need for an optician in Amsterdam, I would absolutely return to Schmidt for their excellent customer service.

I only paid 200 for 2 pairs of eye glasses. Normally you would pay an arm and leg when you buy just 1 set of glasses in the NL. I am very happy with my lovely pair of glasses. I liked the shop so much that I bought 2 sets of glasses to wear. However, keep in mind I will be back to buy 2 more pairs for the summer. My husband came here to get new glasses and to get a new lens for his current glasses that had…read morefallen out and broken. His exam was great. The British guy who helped him was very knowledgeable and measured his vision well and had expert knowledge on different lenses types and could identify the model of lens in his current glasses. Unfortunately that's where the good times ended. My husband couldn't get an immediate replacement for his broken lens because they don't grind lenses in house. Instead the shop put in an order for a new lens from their supplier off-site, and that took a couple of days, which was ok. Not great, but ok. That lens came in on time, and was put in his glasses just fine. The real problems started with the new glasses he ordered. They said his glasses would be in 13 days after ordering, but instead it took 23 days. Along the way there was no communication about the delay, so my husband showed up 17 days later at the store expecting to pick up his glasses, and instead they had no glasses and no explanation about where they were. Depending on who he talked to he got different stories, from 'they shipped, they can be here any day now,' to 'we got them in, but they weren't good enough so we sent them back. another replacement will be here soon' to 'I don't know, I have to get in touch with our supplier but they are not answering the phone.' So he got a bit of a run around, and ended up calling every few days because they always said the glasses would be there 'in a few days', and then again 'in a few days'. Now he has his glasses, and he liked how they adjusted them on his face. The frames still need a bit of getting used to because their selection isn't that wide so he ended up going with a different style than he's used to, but they're ok. In the end he got a store gift card for 16.90 euros after he picked up and paid for his glasses. For what, I am not sure. I don't know what you can get for that much money there. Maybe eyeglass wiping clothes? My experience of this place remains a mixed bag.

The lenses were very expensive transition lenses and I was heartsick at the thought of having to buy new replacement glasses. Maryama spent time with us looking at all of the children's frames they had in stock - looking for a pair that we could pop in the old, undamaged lenses into. Success! We were able to find a pair that not only my son approved of but also could accommodate the old lenses. This saved us many hundreds of euros. Not only that, I had my eyes tested while I was there to make sure that my current glasses were still the right prescription. They're still ok! The store has a beautiful selection of frames so we will be back when it is time to get new glasses. The staff are so friendly and helpful.
