Prior to…read moremy surgery, I was a nervous wreck, forcing my internist to put me on anti-anxiety medication. The staff at St Lukes took such great care of me the anti-anxiety meds were unnecessary. Ensconced in Room C3102A, the aides, Michele and Alexis, and the nurses Shanon, Michelle, Margaret, etc, were empathetic, caring, and knowledgable, able to listen and comprehend what I needed. I'm difficult! The last time I spent an overnight in a hospital was in 1959! I am used to VIP treatment, and I am often a dilettante. However, my arrogance was diffused by the sincerity of my caregivers at St. Lukes Hospital. I'm home recuperating, but I will never forget the kindness and care shown to me by the overworked and underappreciated staff. You are all amazing.

One can become fairly attuned to what's working and what's not with that level of involvement. Second, my experiences, while not unique to Aurora, reflect on the efficiency models used throughout US medical systems. Each week I get several automated requests to check in to the same appointments. While this requires no more than five minutes of my time, it is very redundant, particularly when I am often asked for the same information when I get to an appointment. The result may be greater accuracy in billing, but I seriously doubt it improves care Further, twice I've been given a pile of papers to complete while waiting, only to have them ignored by the provider. Finally, the only apparent people with which issues can be addressed are nurses and MAs who are similarly frustrated by these issues. In the end, it's not about health or care, and the system is not about people.

Kellen life update:…read more I never post on here but you all need to hear this! I have never in my life had a positive experience in a medical setting (doctors, hospitals, surgery's) I walked down the stairs after having the coronavirus and I was completely exhausted and out of breath. (Not normal I've never experienced asthma like symptoms) so I went to urgent care to get looked at. Turns out I have pneumonia in my right lung and some blockage in my lungs (from covid weakening my lungs and immune system). So mentally and physically I have been drained the last few weeks. But the people at Aurora Urgent Care today you are all going to heaven!!! From the ladies at the front desk being so patient and polite to me! Then nurse understanding I was nervous so giving me distracted questions before taking my blood pressure, the X-ray tech talking to me about Norwegian heritage and lefse and the doctor telling me I had pneumonia. I've never been so happy to be given bad news! In today's world people are trash. But EVERY SINGLE person at Aurora today was absolute gem. I might fake illnesses in the future to come back. 5/5 would recommend these people are worth reviewing!

This is solely about Aurora's prescription management…read more I transferred insurance which required a change in my pharmacy coverage. It took approximately three in-person visits and four phone calls to Aurora for them FINALLY to get it right. That's in addition to several calls to the pharmacy itself (non-Aurora), who told me no, Aurora had to handle this. Come ON: people change insurance all the time. It should NOT have taken THREE MONTHS and all that work to make a simple change.

But when I recently booked a simple consult appt for a check-in on my sleeping treatments, they billed me $995 dollars for a 20 minute conversatin The appt was ok, but it wasn't even with an MD! (Rather it was an NP...) Are you kidding? The best lawyers in the world don't get $1000 for 20 minutes of work... I've called MANY times to discuss the matter and been completely blown off. Stay away unless you like wasting your medical dollars. (This review is for the Mequon clinic, but probably applies to all locations...)

I had a 15 min appointment with Dr Patel at St Luke's and with insurance I was billed for almost $600 out of pocket. Literally asked me a few basic questions any nurse could have easily done. After that huge shock I asked for a quote on the home sleep study. With insurance my portion was over $800. Then you have to do an overnight stay (can't imagine how many thousands that costs) and buy your cpap machine. Plan to throw away $5grand easily. There are home sleep studies you can find online for like $200. Or go through Reggie White Foundation if you can't get the help you need. This stuff can be deadly for people. Don't let Aurora scam you. I made a huge mistake thinking my office visit would be billed as an office building. Aparently I'm the fool who fell for that.

They took the shirt off my back ... and then they lost it!…read more I have gone to this hospital for decades and generally have been satisfied. However, yesterday I had an experience that needs to be corrected. I was admitted to the ER for a cardiac issue and then moved to the cardiac observation unit for the remainder of the day and overnight. Unfortunately, the orderly who transported me -- he had black hair and a black beard -- used a gurney to transport and lost two articles of clothing. I don't know his name, but I distinctly remember the bag that held the clothing fell off the gurney and i remember him retrieving it. However, when I was discharged today, that bag could not be found in my room. it contained a T shirt and a grey long-sleeve dress shirt with a button-down collar my mother bought for me. That shirt has great sentimental value and I notified the Public Safety Unit and the ER of what happened. We could not find the shirt today, but I was told to call in a day since "it is probably sitting on a cart somewhere. Since my mother passed away four years ago at about this time, I'm sure you can understand how much that shirt means to me. An error becomes a mistake only if you fail to correct it, and I hope the person who handled my clothing and Public Safety can correct this mistake. To be clear, I had a decent experience with ER personnel and got excellent care from the cardiac unit. I only hope that my shirt can be found. if not, this will be a Christmas Eve I will be forced to remember --and not in a good way.
