It's right at the end of the Esplanade, so has a great view over the bay to Straddie and also around to Wellington Point. It has a huge new playground, with shadesails, slides, forts and timber walkways. It also has very nice new picnic tables and barbecues, accessible toilets, shared walkway/bikeway and a seperate area with fitness equipment for anyone keen to do some circuit training. Oh, and obviously these days you can't camp at all; this name is an historical reference to its turn of the century popularity as a holiday camping spot by the bay.

I like grabbing some food at the local shops then heading down to Apex park for a picnic. On a hot day, there is plenty of shade plus Hillards Creek runs next to it and provides a great mini water view over lunch. It is like a little oasis away from the main road. I came here not too long ago with a friend. We got a coffee and some cheese and biscuits and had a nice lazy afternoon in the shade. It is a good place for a morning walk too.

It is more or less the brain child of Councillor Wendy Boglary who has worked hard to tidy up the place and turn it into a recreational area. On your average day, it is a warm, grass area, with easy parking, sandstone seats and is within walking distance to a bunch of cafes and shops. It is a really lovely space to relax by yourself or with a friend. The first time I went to the Village Green was in October, 2011. It was for the first event held in the space , called 'Art in the Park'. The sandstone stage was perfect for performers to show off their talents and the green slope was covered with locals, spread out and enjoying the entertainment. All in all, it is a fantastic space for markets and organised entertainment or for a peaceful, sunny space to relax on a sunny day.
