She helped me get into a wall back-bend that transformed a pose I generally struggle through! The room was nice & big, space enough for all, as well as plenty of props - blocks/blankets/straps - which is central to the practice. I'm looking forward to another class when I visit my son! There's no shower, as far as I could tell, which is usually crucial if I'm visiting from out-of-town.

A side bonus, the sweat is the best thing ever for your skin. My skin has gotten so soft. The combination of the heat, the sweat, the stretching, the positions and the candlelight creates a unique environment that benefits both the mind and body...dare I say soul? It's not easy. It's hot and it's a workout. But, the results are well worth it. I am getting better at the poses (asanas) and that in itself is rewarding. If you are considering, I strongly recommend you give it a try! The reception area, studio and locker rooms are all very nice and clean. The gals at the reception desk are so very sweet and welcoming. The instructors are all great. I brought friends and family, recommended the studio to others, and genuinely believed in the community and values being created. I want to acknowledge my part in what happened. I had a conversation where my frustration came through strongly, and my tone was not how I would have wanted to communicate. I have reflected on that and take responsibility for the way I expressed myself. However, I want to clarify that my frustration was not directed at Victoria or Anahata. I was upset because I felt the studio and its community were not being respected by Emerald Mallard allowing smoking near the studio. My reaction came from caring about a business and space that I had supported for years. After reflecting, I reached out, apologized for my tone, and my apology was accepted. I attended class the following day as planned and believed we had repaired the situation and were moving forward. Instead, shortly afterward, while I was out of town, I received an email ending my membership. I was shocked and hurt that, after what I believed was a resolved conversation, the decision was made without another discussion or an opportunity to understand what had changed. What was most painful was not the decision itself, but the lack of communication and the way it was handled. After years of showing up for this studio as a founding member, I expected a more compassionate and direct conversation. Anahata promotes values like mindfulness, compassion, and communication. Unfortunately, my experience during a difficult moment did not feel aligned with those values. I hope others have a positive experience, but I wanted to share my own experience of feeling dismissed and blindsided after years of support.

Cycle, Barre, Pilates, Sculpt, Yoga, HITT and more. I particularly enjoy Mara's classes (especially Saturday Barre, hope to see you there!). Mara was named by Good Times Magazine as one of the top yoga teachers in Santa Cruz, for good reason! I have also been able to attend classes by Wesley, Lee, Michelle, Tate and Bijou, who are all masterful in their own right. The staff behind the counter is super friendly. Everyone was expected to lay their mats directly on top of other people's sweat, and the weights were still wet and sticky. For a studio at this price point, I would expect much better sanitation practices. Clean equipment and floors aren't just about appearances, they're important for helping prevent the spread of germs and ensuring members feel comfortable. I hope the studio makes cleanliness a higher priority moving forward because otherwise it's a fantastic place to work out.
