I then broke down in tears because I'm a server and a student, and there is no way I can afford this without going into debt...So my cat is going to die? That's basically the reaction I had. The veterinarian then said directly that if I couldn't afford veterinary fees then perhaps I should contemplate not owning animals. Then he said that he'd see what he can do about bumping the cost down. The vet returned with the second bill (380$) and again, I received the message that due to my inability to pay for all the treatments, that my cat would be getting "subpar" care (vet's words). Implicit in this statement is that, because I'm low income, I cannot properly care for my cat. I left, I treated her in a "subpar" way, and guess what: she's well again and thriving. I didn't need any of that extra stuff. For example- day hospitalization. 52$... I just had to stay an extra hour while she had tests completed. Tell me again: Which option shows more care for the cat? TL;DR the CTPH are slick, which might lead you to think that paying upwards of 1000$ per visit makes you a good and caring pet owner. Almost a year later - I've been going to The Mill Creek Animal hospital for my pet's needs (two cats and two visits so far) and they have been outstanding in terms of integrity, cost, and compassion. I waited to post this negative review because I still didn't know what an honest veterinarian looked like in Edmonton. Please consider the other options before you spend too much money here for the same result. Even just call on the phone and compare prices, you'll see.

It's been a very long time since I've had to have a pet spayed (last several cats were purebreads…read moreand came to us already neutered). Anyways, I originally booked through my regular vet clinic and was quoted between $500-$600 (I don't recall the exact number). Decided to do some research, not specifically related to a cheaper fee but just figured that who better to do the surgery than a spay clinic when they do these surgeries all day/every day and are likely to be much more experienced at them. I read the reviews and was pleasantly surprised, especially since I'm located on the north side, this location is excellent for me. I called in to book, there was a several week wait but I was able to pre-book. Left my $50 booking deposit which I was a little leary of but everything worked out great. Bella's (cat) spay went perfectly well. Her incisions were minimal and neat and tidy. She was back to her self the very next morning and didn't seem bothered by her surgery at all. We paid $325 in total which included her pre-surgery blood work (optional), IV fluids during surgery (optional but suggested), pain meds during surgery plus after surgery pain meds (2 days worth, again optional but recommended). I opted out of getting the cone. We decided to buy one at Pet Smart which we will now return as it wasn't needed as Bella was really good about licking (to be honest, they did such a great job with the surgery, there were no exposed stitches or anything for her to chew or pull on anyways). All in all, we're extremely impressed with the surgery, how well Bella has done. We did keep her in our master bedroom for 1 week post op to reduce her movements but she was hopping up on our bed and night table and getting around just fine on the morning of day 2. You'd never know she had a major surgery other than for a few hours after the surgery she was pretty wobbly and groggy. We saved a nice chunk of money, but most importantly, she got great care and did so much better than I remember my last female cat doing (incision was massive in that day and age). Really pleased with this clinic, they called to give us an update on the day of her surgery, we picked her up earlier than expected, we even spoke with the Vet because we called with a few questions about her blood work, the vet answered all of my questions and put my mind at ease that all was good with her bloodwork. Received a follow up call 3 days post-op to check on how Bella was doing and how her incision looked. I highly recommend this clinic. They were great to deal with every step of the way and the prices were much more reasonable than our regular vet clinics price. Also, FYI Bella was approx. 7 months old at the time of her spay surgery, if this helps anyone else. It was suggested (by our regular vet clinic) that we do it before the springtime when cat's typically go into heat, but not earlier than 6 months of age.

It was a bad infection. one vet said my dog had environmental allergies.Another visit I was advised to change his diet to a hydrolyzed kibble because of his allergies. I was told that their dog food was best and advised against getting it elsewhere. I said I would consider that option but I was being pushed by the vet to buy their stocked dog food at a cost of $270.00 a month. I was given ear drops for my dog. Next visit my dog was scratching his ears and body. I was told he had gunk inside his ears and a little inflammation. A rx was given to me for ear drops same as before but this time some anti inflammatory pills ($72.60) in which he has to take daily till done in 7 days. The drops looked like there was only enough for a couple of days at a cost of $84.90 (not cheap). Same symptoms as before but now pills added on. 2 days later I called them to let them know that it wasn't enough for the next 5 days. Because of the cost I called G&E pharmacy and they could dispense it for $47.68 and of course I would rather that option. I asked the vet clinic Edmonton Spay and Neuter Clinic if they would kindly fax it to G&E pharmacy and I was told for a $35 fee to fax it. I was so upset as I felt I was being gouged. I went there and picked up the rx and had it filled at G&E pharmacy. Edmonton Spay & Neuter Clinic puts money ahead of the animal. I'm made to feel it's all about the dollar. I will not be going back there and definitely don't recommend. The front staff are wonderful but the doctors want the big bucks.

This was a wonderful rabbit, especially to the crew at Riverbend Veterinary Clinic, who were always there to help with a smile. They offered to keep our rabbit there when we traveled (for a fee), and showed a love for Cuddles that seemed to border on our own affection. When we needed something explained, they did so gladly and in detail. They provided effective medication when Cuddles became infected in eyes and ear, and provided advice to us on how to extend our rabbit's life and general welfare. Whenever Cuddles developed a new way to frighten us, it was this crew that explained things to us and calmed us down. This same vet helped tactfully assist us in reaching the right decision when Cuddles health began to fail. When things reached their inevitable end, we took Cuddles to Riverbend Veterinary Clinic one final time, and if ever the team there had been understanding before, they were even more so now. Even though it was the right decision, it's the kind that always leaves you conflicted. But there's one thing I'm not conflicted about - Riverbend Veterinary Clinic will give your pet the care it deserves, and I fully recommend it.

She's seen both Dr. McLachlan and Dr. Knapp-Miller. All of the staff seem to genuinely care about animals and I always appreciate a good balance between holistic and western medicine. Because of COVID-19 restrictions, I've only been in with Zelda for her appointments once and the space seemed clean, calm and spacious. The comments and questions let me know the staff are getting to know Zelda and trying to get to the root of potential issues (like my sweet girl being disgusting and eating her poop) rather than just treating the symptoms. I had new pet owner worries between appointments and it was nice to get to speak to a vet tech between appointments to let me know when to worry and when something just seemed like normal puppy stuff.

We were led into a room that had been lovingly prepared, lit with a candle and aromatherapy. We were allowed to settle in and then have as much time as we wanted after the end of life procedure. We were not rushed and I felt like I could spend as much time as I wanted after she was gone. I really appreciated that. I realize I've said nearly nothing about their actual care, but just how we experienced the last moment but if I can relay to you their caring and understanding, then I hope I've done that. Dr. Nick went as far as providing a home visit for our dog, who was having cardiac issues. When we had to put our oldest dog down due to end of life medical issues, the staff made this process very straightforward yet still provided an incredible level of care and support. While this was heartbreaking for us, I was blown away by the kindness and empathy displayed by their entire team.
