Julian Atkinson has been my dentist for over 25 years on and off now. I saw him as an NHS patient…read moreuntil my 18th birthday when I found I couldn't afford his services any longer. I've since had a few dentists but in June 2009 with a new dental insurance plan returned to Julian. His surgery is really rather inconvenient to get to if you don't live in the moorlands. It takes me about 40 minutes to get here from either Stafford where I work, or Newcastle where I live. His prices are undoubtedly high for dentistry but he is thorough in his work, I've never had a problem and I'm sure I've never paid for unecessary work. In fact Julian is BBC Radio Stokes on air dentist, so that should be an indicator of how good he is with all his patients.

He is a lovely dentist to having and is very friendly. If you have a problem you know you can trust him to help or sort it out for you. Private dentistry will never be cheap but you know that he is not going to charge you more for treatment. He also provides NHS service for people up to 19 in full time education. Overall i will be staying with this dentist for a long time.

I have attended Hughes and Owen Dental Care my whole life and have always been very impressed with…read morethe professionalism and service shown by both the dentists and the reception staff. The practice is set in the iconic Brook House in the centre of Swadlincote, which is subdivided into different areas for dental and hygienist work. Dentists have come on and gone, but all have been affable, positive and above all honest, which has always been refreshing. Disappointingly they have removed the ever present tropical fish tank in the waiting room, that used to be an effective distraction from your impending fillings etc. The magazines on offer as you wait are an eclectic mix of publications like National Geographic and Steam Engine weekly?, all of which are several years out of date! Going to the dentist is one of my least favourite things to do in life, but at least at Hughes and Owen I know that I will receive the very highest level of service.
Another nervous moment... going to the dentist! Mr. Snarky was really in need of a dentist and I…read morewas convinced I had the start of a cavity. After looking online I stumbled across Cavendish Dental Care. They address nervous patients and have their prices online, so it is quite transparent. When I rang up, they were able to register me over the phone, although they do take a £40 fee to ensure that you do turn up to your consultation. She did inform me that they weren't taking NHS patients as of a couple weeks ago, but that was fine with us. We don't seem to be in any catchment area, but we need a dentist, so we registered anyway. There is a small amount of parking out front of the office, but I think the closest car park is the Rose Hill Car Park, unless you can find some parking on one of the streets nearby. They do close at lunch time so if you are trying to make an appointment or turn up a bit early for your appointment just after lunch, you'll have to wait until everyone returns. The waiting area is quite large with dental equipment for purchase behind the desk. There is a t.v. with images and ads playing... in fact some of the diagrams of various dental problems were quite interesting as I've not seen anything like that before. When I went back to meet the dentist, I was pleasantly surprised at how modern and welcoming the room was. When they recline the chair, you'll notice a t.v. above the chair that you can focus on. Although rather than a t.v. show, it just had BBC Radio 2 on. The dentist is very soft spoken and very gentle. While I didn't feel pressured at all, I can already tell that they are suggesting services and as we have registered as private patients... it will probably cost a pretty penny. For example, I still have a baby tooth, but there is no adult tooth to replace it. As a result, my previous dentists have advised me to take care of it and said with care it will probably last for a long time. At this appointment they were already talking about implants for it, but apparently it still looks healthy and there is no movement... However, as long as there is no pressure into services that aren't needed immediately, then we will get on just fine.

I was seen by Mr Veer and his assistant for a check up last week and can can honestly say they treated very well, dealt with my nervous disposition excellently - even my gagging at the mouth xray!. I am sat here with a numb mouth having just had my first ever filling - which I had been dreading - and again the team there were friendly, and treated me really well in carrying out the flling and making sure I was ok after. The dental assistant even helped crank up the volume on my ipod to hide the noise of the drilling! I would recommend Tutbury Dental practice in Tutbury and particularly Mr Veer without question.

As you can imagine I needed a bit of work doing; a white composite filling, a root canal pre-molar, I also decided to have my teeth whitened before having my two front teeth built up and finally, I had a crown. I wouldn't say I look forward to going to the dentist, but I do know I will get the best treatment and care at Cosmetic White Smiles. Thank You.
