No matter how long you have to wait in line at the West-End Registries it always seems longer than it actually is. Why? Because they are always playing those annoying Just for Laffs skits on the big screen TVs behind the service counter on a constant loop. I've been coming here for a few years now and it's always the same! They have ShawOpen wifi now so at least you can surf the net while you're waiting. Or write a Yelp review... To avoid the lines from hell, the best time to come here is mid-afternoon on a weekday. I came in to renew two registrations and there was only one person ahead of me. The wait was probably around ten minutes even though the Just for Laffs made it seem like an hour. The transaction went by quickly but registration renewal is a pretty routine thing anyway. The staff are friendly enough but they all seem phased by the ravages of routine. In other words - they're bored. They're probably slightly desensitized to normal human interaction from the multitude of people stopping in without the correct paperwork who in turn throw a tantrum when they are refused service. Honestly, it's annoying to be turned away because you don't have a notarized letter from your stork filled out in triplicate by Brazil's ambassador to The Cayman Islands. And a current utility bill. It's always best to check online to see exactly what you need before standing in the Just for Laffs line. It saves you an ass-tonnage of heartache. They finally accept credit cards here now but you have to pay a 3% fee. It's best to bring cash or just use debit. Maybe they're using the 3% fee to pay for a wider cable subscription package? Staff are not very helpful. They are not willing to help customers asking for help over the phone. They will ask you to come in person and do it! I called in to rebook my road test and the lady told me to do it online which actually doesn't work. The email they provided don't even exist. I even tried to manage the booking online but there was no confirmation number on the email they sent me. With all the Covid restrictions and stuff, they still prefer in person visit. Just a couple of agents know what they are doing. This registry was my first choice in 2018. In 2019 they where less good. But in 2020 it got worse, they are very unfriendly und useless. THIS AN UPDATE TO MY PREVIOUS REVIEW (ORIGINAL REVIEW IN THE BOTTOM FOR REFERENCE) As I have mentioned in my original review, I am now certain that the employee DID NOT send my application. How do I know? In my original review, the owner commented a number to call and a name to talk to, I did. During the call the manager told me that my application was sent by the said employee, well, I said, "after she refused and I insisted". She went in circles on how my application does not fit their criteria. I finally said, you know, I actually really just expected an apology but I am not going to get it so thanks anyway: 1. The manager said the employee sent my application. NO, SHE DID NOT! How do I know? After my phone call with the manager, she called and said the government has already decided about my application, I called back and said, to send it in my email. A. The reply from the government said "enquiry" not application. As far as vocabulary is involved, enquiry is different from application. B. Attached to the email was the original email from West-End Registries to the government that said, "our application does not fit the eligibility requirements" (rephrased due to prohibition by law). So upon enquiring, the employee has already decided and told the government that we are not eligible. 2. When I asked for an apology from the manager over the phone, she said, "I am sorry that YOU FEEL that our employee did not understand your application". Anyone who knows the blame game knows this; this is not an apology. Their employee's behavior is not my fault, it is completely hers. 3 days now since my experience with this registry's employee and it still makes me anxious and I still can't sleep well at night thinking about it. I don't believe these employees understand proper customer service. I have shared my experience with 3 other private Facebook groups and in just 1 minute of posting it, 6 people commented that they had the same kind of application, for the same reasons and yet, they did not have any problem getting the placard. I am done dealing with this registry! ORIGINAL REVIEW: I went there today to apply for my son's disability placard. The receptionist looked at the form that was filled out by his pediatrician, then proceeded to her manager. She returned and told me that we should wait a couple of years till my son starts walking. Upon hearing her statement, it was very obvious that they did not understand what was written on the form. I explained to the receptionist that my son is walking but his disability is neurological; he is autistic, non-verbal, does not know safety, flight risk, and will run into a busy street or parking lot without checking for cars (as stated by the pediatrician). She then went to her manager and came back with her. As soon as the manager saw me, she leaned over the glass barrier and said, "what?". So rude, honestly? No smile, no good afternoon, no nothing! I pointed to the lady behind her still holding my application form. AND then she said, "they will deny this". So a manager knows when an application is going to be denied? So now, the manager decides which applications are to be sent out? She kept on saying that they had applications "similar" to our application that got denied. She did not even bother calling the higher ranking officers whether there is a chance of our application getting approved, she just decided that "it is going to be denied". Her refusal in sending our application is a basic denial of my son's human rights and an insult to the physician who filled out the form for us. I have repeated to the manager, "why not send the application, and if it gets denied, then at least I tried, there is nothing to lose in trying anyway". She went on to say, "I can send your application but I am sure it will get denied". Really???? I am never going back to this registry ever again. And the look they gave me is like saying, "Oh yeah, there's another Karen". Honestly, if they can be more friendly, I could be as well. And I am doubting the manager even sent out our application. read more

I used this registry for the first time yesterday and it was amazing. The staff member who helped was super friendly and very efficient. I was able to renew my vehicle registration and my wife was able to renew her drivers license in very short order. There was no line up, likely due to being the middle vice the end of the month. I would highly recommend this location if you are on the west end. read more

Hi. So, I went in to get a new ID, and after paying and everything, right at the end they told me because my ID was more than 6 months out of date, they needed proof of residency. I didn't have a current bill on me, and I got angry that I was expected to, and asked if they could just get my ID done. They refused, chastised me for being angry etc. I left immediately. I just called back today to find out if I can ever go back there, they told me yes. I apologized for getting angry, I told them it wasn't intentional. We had a discussion on why they told me what they did, and why they couldn't do it ever, and then I was told that our discussion was at an end. We let each other go. So, they are OK, but now I really will always start carrying a current bill with me so that if I ever forget that I need it, I will have it and won't get angry at anyone for stupid policies. read more

I accidentally booked a class 5 basic instead of advanced test. Totally my fault. The problem is that I'm on a time crunch and the only way for me to get this test done is to book at callingwood registries, who these guys are joined with. I'm able to re-book through west-end but at a date that isn't going to help me. When asked if they could transfer the booking (or the re-booking) to callingwood so I could get the test done in time, the woman on the phone acted like I was asking to be transferred to a different province. "I can't transfer you to a different registry..." Why do they share a website if they are basically 2 islands in the ocean? I just had to pay for 2 road tests because of their terrible no-refund policy (which they state in their agreement, granted). I don't understand why they have no way to accommodate this type of error on a customer's behalf. Anyways. Won't ever go to this place again. read more

Don't go to West end Registry for your road test . I was very sereine and clam until the examiner took place on my right. First off all he wasn't welcoming and he was rude . Just earring him talk I started getting nervous . I had hard time following his directions because they weren't clear at all. After 3 minutes driving he asked me to do parallel parking. At my first attempt he said I was a little far from the curb. The 2nd attempt somehow I just was an able to complete the manoeuvre. At the end he did't even explain me my mistakes. I am writing this review not because I failed but because of this examiner attitude. read more

You will never wait longer in a lineup than you will at West End Registries. Einstein was right...time is relative. The people BEHIND the counter don't measure time in the same way that people IN FRONT OF the counter do. Just waited about 40 minutes in line for a simple registration renewal. I have NO IDEA what the staff are doing there..NONE....I don't know what kinds of questions they are asking or what the customers are bringing in (or not bringing in) for information, but the average till time was AT LEAST 10 minutes per customer. Registration renewals, driver's tests, passport B.S., all go in the same lineup. It was horrifying. And when you get to the front of the line...beware..NO CREDIT CARDS ACCEPTED!! Cash or Debit ONLY! They should post a sign in the window with 12" letters so you are forewarned and can go get money first. They have signs all over the place about how they have a zero tolerance policy for staff abuse. No wonder! After a 40 minute wait, most people are ready to explode when they finally get their turn in line. Never coming back here again. You cannot believe how slow and inefficient they are here. read more

Very disappointed with the driving instructor. Has an argumentative approach to young people. In my opinion seemed very biased, not truthful, and certainly appears to enjoy failing them. Was having a long horrible day trying to buy a utility trailer and dealing with the store not giving me the proper papers to get it registered. After me trying with the company a few times to get the proper documents, the registry called for me and got what I needed...making it so that I didnt have to make a third trip back to the store.
