I recently met with an entire team of people from Orthopedic Associates of Muskegon. They were all…read moretop-notch. My EMG was performed by Dr. John Hawkins. He did a wonderful job both in the way he communicated and the way he performed the testing. Although this is a generally an unpleasant test, he made it much less so. Dr. Justin Jabara explained his findings and my MRI result in a very clear and concise manner while answering all of my questions and interruptions. As I moved along the chain I met with Dr. Christine Bowman. She made everything I was considering come together as a plan that I could digest with comforting knowledge for pre-operative, operative, and post-operative care and recovery. I am very happy to be working with such a great team of caring individuals. From the intake process through consultation, testing, surgery, office care and discharge; OAM is the best.

I had one of the most negative experiences I've encountered at a medical practice. As someone who…read moreworks in a private counseling and psychiatry office, I am very familiar with standards of patient care--and I can confidently say that the way I was treated here fell far below those standards. I sought care for a hand injury that had been managed conservatively for several weeks under the guidance of providers at my workplace. When my symptoms failed to improve and began worsening, I was advised to seek further evaluation at this facility. Upon arrival, I clearly explained my situation, including the treatments I had already been consistently following (ice, heat, ibuprofen, and a brace for nerve-related pain), as well as my anxiety due to past medical trauma. Unfortunately, the provider largely disregarded this information. I was advised to continue the same course of treatment I had already been following for four weeks, despite my repeated explanation that my condition was worsening. My concerns were not meaningfully addressed, and no alternative plan was discussed until much later. When the nurse brought in a brace, I explained it was the same type I had already been using without relief. The nurse acknowledged this and relayed it to the provider. Only then--after it was clear I was upset--did the provider attempt to revisit my care plan. Additionally, I was deeply uncomfortable with the lack of privacy and professionalism prior to even being seen. I overheard conversations about my case at the nurses' station, just outside my exam room, in a manner that felt dismissive and inappropriate. This contributed to an already distressing experience, especially given that I had communicated my anxiety and past trauma. At no point did I feel genuinely heard or supported until I became visibly upset. Compassion, attentiveness, and respect should not be reactive--they should be the baseline of patient care. As someone who works in healthcare myself, particularly in the mental health field, I find this experience both disappointing and concerning. Patients deserve to be treated with dignity, empathy, and careful attention to their concerns--especially when they are in pain and seeking help.

Dr. Vasiue has repaired both rotator cuffs as well even after other docs said it was beyond repair. Eternally grateful for vastly improved function and pain relief in knee and shoulders. After my first visit with him, he recommended MRI scans as well as a back brace. Only to wait a month for them to get the authorization in for my insurance. And what is worse is that I reached out to them multiple times asking for updates and it always goes to voicemail. It is as if they are ignoring my calls. Ive also left multiple voicemails to call back and Ive only gotten one call back. Also after getting in touch with my insurance they informed me that there has been no request for authorization from them about the back brace. So not only did they lie saying they submitted it but also lied saying that we were waiting for insurance authorization. In all honestly after waiting so long I have decided I will not be returning due to the inconvenience. I would also not recommend this place to anyone. Dr. Vasiu does not take time to listen to his clients. He constantly talks and does not give you time to respond or express your own concerns. I would not recommend this place and insist on looking elsewhere.
