I recently had a kid who went through the behind-the-wheel new driver series with West Point. Before selecting West Point, I had already combed through Yelp and Google. The "best" choice was not obvious from this research. I asked a friend who recently had kids get their drivers licenses and he recommended West Point without any reservations. I re-scoured the reviews and became convinced. The registration process was straightforward, and the office staff was always polite, efficient and professional. They are clearly used to dealing with unexpected issues because they were flexible with unplanned changes and last minute bookings. I only observed the instructors during their pre-drive briefings and post-drive debriefings. Always calm, nonjudgmental and full of useful tips. My daughter took the online drivers ed course last summer and with that and studying she passed her written test with a perfect score. We purchases one lesson at a time and did all lessons with Josh. My daughter felt comfortable with him and although we were told we could ride along we chose to not. The third lesson was the week before her behind the wheel test and she passed with a perfect score. Overall I was happy with the smooth process, customer service, and the instructor knowledge. They drove from Natomas to Elk Grove and the midtown and downtown area. She was always given feedback after every lesson so she knew what to work on. We also did the 55 plus hours with her during the 6months she had the permit so both practice and a great school is key. Will definitely use with my 15 year old again. read more

My family did a great deal of research until we found the perfect fit for our young adult daughter who was a new driver and had no previous driving experience. "You get what you pay for," as we are always taught, so we didn't go with the cheapest driving school-- we went for the BEST we could find in our area. The staff and the driving instructors are awesome. The online class was very helpful and helped my daughter understand the rules of the road. She passed the written portion to get her permit with ease. This was one of the only schools that actually allow the parents to ride along during their behind the wheel lesson. I did it only for the first time to see how things would go. I was really impressed with their professionalism and how he handled showing my daughter how to drive. Fantastic company. They gave my child the necessary tools to pass the written and the behind the wheel test the 1st time. Paul and Megan were really flexible in working with my family's busy schedule. If you have a motivated child that want to get his or her license send them to West Point. A nice touch was that for the final lesson before the DMV behind the wheel test, let them know which location you are taking it at (i.e. Roseville, Carmichael, Folsom etc) and they will take your student and do a final walk thru to get accustom to the neighborhood. read more

Another school had minimal availability (nothing for several weeks) and seemed bothered by any inquiries once they were finally reached. This school is easy to reach, organized, intelligent, friendly, professional, and has great policies. So I decided to change driving schools and found West Point on Yelp and read all the good reviews. My son had his first appointment with Frank who is super awesome! He is patient, kind and understanding. Frank has great communication skills and he really does take the parent's concerns into consideration. My son has had all 3 lessons with Frank and always felt good about himself and his driving afterwards. As a parent, that made me feel good and comfortable with Frank. My daughter was so excited about getting her permit, but had no prior experience driving at all. She took her first driving lesson at another school and it was such an awful experience for her that she was traumatized and had ZERO desire to drive after that. The instructor actually tried to justify it by saying she rarely ever has a student with no prior experience behind the wheel. But the damage was done. After our efforts to appease her anxiety were not effective, I did some more research and found West Point Driving. I loved their website and was instantly attracted just by that. Their cars have camera recordings, both passenger brake AND gas petal for the instructor, and their website showed up front how they approach anxious drivers. I was even more excited to hear that parents can come along! We realized that the price was worth it after our first debacle so we signed up for a class. I came with them this time and Brett was Amazing. He was so calm, patient, and soft spoken that we were both instantly relaxed just listening to him speak. He explained everything really well, and was so reassuring and encouraging the entire time. This job is really his calling (imo). My kiddo had a great experience. Her confidence was boosted in just that first lesson and she is now excited to learn again! Her and I went driving today for hours and she drove from El Dorado Hills to Citrus Heights on all the busy city roads. read more

Yes, I went to Yelp and searched 'best driving schools' in our area, as my daughter is 17 and was ready to take classes prior to taking her DMV drive test. Once I read the reviews for West Point Driving School I checked out their website, too. I can promise that the reviews are real. We chose West Point due to all of the great reviews, and the fact that they offer a one-to-one ratio of driver to instructor. This was really appealing as my daughter can get nervous easily in front of others, and I wanted to reduce that as much as possible. When her first appointment came, the driver was the owner, and arrived with another person in the vehicle. However, he was polite and respectful and addressed my daughter first: he brought another person he is training: is it okay if he sits in the back seat? "He will listen to what I'm saying to you only. But, if you would rather it be just one person driving with you, I'm happy to drop him off and return back to you, whatever you wish." She chose to have them both in the vehicle and reported it actually made her feel a little safer for her first driving class, to relieve kind of 'stranger danger' feelings. She had two different instructors for her three drive classes. They each had just a little bit of different training 'styles' and both styles worked well for her. After each class they recommended things for her to work on, which she would practice when she'd drive with someone else in between classes. By her last class the instructor and her must have been more relaxed because they chatted while she drove. The last lesson was also more of prep for the drive test. She had about a week between her last lesson and her DMV drive test, so we had her practice driving me to the DMV and driving around there. I spoke with my daughter at length about her experiences with West Point after each class, and also after her DMV drive test (which she passed, first time!). We both feel the owner and the company are A+! Just the best people, best service, the best care for their students. They really seemed to understand my daughter's personality and teach to her strengths. I cannot say enough wonderful things about them. Worth every penny and then some! I'm a college student at UC Davis, and I'd willing to take 1h bus ride from Davis to W Sacramento with 100F heat outside - should be enough for a recommendation. I'm a simple person, I assign for a driving lesson at x time x location, then I want to see the instructor with the training vehicle show up on THAT time THAT location and offer the FULL 2h hands-on driving experience. And of course, the West Point delivers - better than I ever expected. For all three lessons I took, the instructor always arrive at the location 10-15mins early - I'd know that because the bus ride let me arrive 30mins early, and it's guaranteed to be a 2-full-hour of hand-on behing-the-wheel experience. Not only they go through the normal content that helps with DMV test, like turing on intersection, line changing, downtown driving, backing; for my case, the instructor also go through some extra stuff that won't be on DMV test but definitely will help me as an actual driver - highway driving/line changing at ~60mph, U turn, 90 degrees parking, dealing with two-way stop sign with limit side views. The condition of the training wheel is also very good, at least from my experience, West Point very likely has a high maintenance standard for those wheels as the gas/brake on the training vehicle performs just as they should - respond to proper force but not over-sensitive or insensitive. The only two wishes I had are: one, expanding their service area to include some other cities around grand Sacramento; two, offer service for DMV behind-the-wheel test usage. I do understand for the purpose of quality control, both wishes are very hard to come true, but that's why people make wishes, no? read more

This review strictly is about their cancellation policy. My daughter woke up sick this morning and is unable to participate in her lesson today. She did not go to school today bc she is sick. Their cancellation policy is a $40 fee if there's less than 24 hrs notice. My choices were, force my daughter to take her driving lesson today while being sick (not sure the instructor would appreciate that) or reschedule and pay their $40 fee. I paid the fee and moved the appointment. This doesn't feel right. Other than that, we have been satisfied with her lessons. Cancellation policy when a student is sick? - not satisfied at all. read more
