A good place for rare and collectible books. On a previous visit I picked up a volume from 1906 called " San Francisco's Horror of Earthquake Fire and Famine." It's a nice rubbernecking disaster book with first-hand accounts of the earthquake and some photographs. Also got a book about shipwrecks on the great lakes, and I have my eye on a couple of historic maps in the back room. Make sure you head to the back of the building, there are two more rooms with art books, photography and other things. Not cheap, but they keep a higher quality of books than some of the other bookstores. I don't think they make any effort to have paperbacks here; nor is there a huge selection of fiction. Another bookseller from the area commented that West Side Book Shop is the kind of setting that book people dream of: a really distinctive building, lots of nice wood shelving inside, and the tons of old books.

After living in downtown Ann Arbor nearly 2 years, I finally wandered into this place, having been enticed by the 50% off hardcovers sign posted outside the shop.

I love to purchase the shelves and find something new, although I found the layout slightly confusing, and I found various books and multiple locations. The little tags that talk about unique aspects of the book are a really nice touch. I did find it to be slightly biased politically, but I'm not sure what you can expect in downtown Ann Arbor. They did have a beautiful special version of a book that my best friend from Australia loves, so I was able to pick up that copy. I can't wait to send it to her. When I told her about it, she cried. The book is absolutely beautiful. Thank you so much Literati for stocking such lovely products! Sidenote - this bookstore used to have delicious oat milk, lattes and unfortunately, they do not the café upstairs anymore. I do like that they got rid of all the tables where people would sit for hours on their computer computers. Now there is more room for books and I enjoy their selection of YA, cookbooks, and other genres. This is the same bookstore. We brought our Canadian friends too to browse, and it was very fun also. Thank you so much Indie bookstores. We love to stop in!

She seemed to have a bit of positive pride and enthusiasm for the store that I real appreciate. Upstairs they have created a space for artists to showcase their work. Highly recommended.

It approaches life from a holistic, metaphysical but still grounded approach. It also has some oils, candles, and cool decorations like ankhs and things you can hang in your home for protection, like the evil eye, and what not. Upstairs I think they have tarot readings or something along those lines, I've only been up there to use the restroom. They also have a small discount section, oh and a little bit of jewelry! At least some of it is handmade locally. I find the staff to be very kind too. Give it a try!

I love the Starbucks is inside also . I love how Barnes & Noble has a kids program and that they can get a free treat at Starbucks. We also take part in the summer reading program where they get a free book if they read 10 books. I know the Barnes & Noble is going to have a really awesome selection and I love how they've been keeping a great stock of sprayed edge books , which are my friends favorite so it's my favorite to give her for holidays. I feel like they have their books group really well so that it is very easy to know where to go for what you need . Their game section is thoughtfully curated. I love to read the notes from employees about their favorite books. I know this is a chain, but sometimes when I'm having a bad day, I go in just because it feels like Home . I will say that their bathroom is pretty disgusting unfortunately. Most of the employees have been very kind and helpful, but there will be the occasional employee that huffs and puffs when you ask for help. Honestly, I just really love that I can go get two of my favorite things in the same building . It's also really close to the hospital so when my husband has procedures, I pop in and browse the books while I'm waiting. Thank you, Barnes & Noble for being such a happy place !

A fun fact about Diggers, is that every single item in the store is the same price, $1.25. The not fun fact is that there is no organization other than the media platform. So be prepared to search bin or shelf or table on your own. The items seemed clean and in variable state and age. It was a lot of fun. Everyone found something, even if not looking for something specific. The only staff member is at the sales counter. By not having significant organization or staff to help they can offer such an incredible value. Go there with an open mind and lots of patience and it will pay off.
