The goal is to get it back open and begin to house federal inmates as a revenue source for the county. 12/13/12 During Tuesday's commissioners' court meeting, Judge Paul Hunt brought the matter up, saying low averages of federal prisoners exist at the county lock-up, resulting in lower-then-expected jail revenue. "The issue I'm struggling with is not the history," said Hunt, "my understanding is right now we have got a very low count (of federal inmates.)" "The last report from (Mary Byrne) the jail administrator was on August 14, and we were below 60 percent for federal inmates and it continues to go down," Fast Forward to Present day. 7/26/13 Presidio County Jail Federal inmates are at an all time Low. Sheriff and Deputies are feeling the heat to keep the building alive and bustling. Who needs federal prisoners when you can just lock up local law abiding citizens?
