They are great at teaching newer students, as as a white belt with a year or so of experience, the knowledge and ability jump in that have been very large. I feel like 3 months of time here is worth 2x the time I have spent elsewhere. The benefit (and also a downside) to the school is it is very small (for adults). You get a lot of personal attention and guidance. The downside is the classes can be small sometimes for adults, depending on the day and time. If you are an advanced BJJ artist it would be a great opportunity to get a lot of individual help from very experience practitioners. The facilities are extraordinary clean and well-maintained - as good as or better than many schools. I would eat lunch off their mats :)

Samurai BJJ also has a very strong kids program for those looking to get their children enrolled to build self-defense skills, discipline, and confidence. Facility is great with water dispenser, bathrooms, showers, and a good mat space. Very transparent about pricing. Highly recommended.

Fast forward 10 years later, I am 25 lbs overweight (thanks covid!) and not fit. I couldn't even do a single proper push up. I had trouble sleeping at night and my lifestyle has become too sedentary. I know I need to get out of this funk and be healthy again. I tried coming back to my fave yoga studio, started running, and signed up in a nearby gym to work out myself. None has been too successful. I found myself injured and unmotivated. I passed XMA gym on my way home and I couldn't believe that there is a legit Martial arts gym near my house and I didn't know about it! So I emailed Payam (the owner) and introduced myself. I knew of Payam because he was part of the same fight camp as I was before (though I was already "retired" back then). I told Payam that I was so out of shape, I am not sure if I could keep up with his class. He's very kind and told me to check it out so I did. The first week, I was sore with joint paint and aches but for the first time in ages, I felt the familiar rush of endorphins. The class is never boring and I am always looking forward to come to this gym. Payam runs a tight ship and his class is amazing. You don't feel judged coming to this gym. You can be an athlete or you can be starting out, you only compete with the best version of yourself with Payam guiding you along the way. Now after a month, I feel in the right path. I sleep better, the muscle memory is back, and I start feeling on top of the world again. I lost a bit of weight but I know it's a matter of time if I keep it up. The body is just different and definitely not as soft. Even my 7 year old son starts noticing the change and he is so happy for me. In addition to Payam's class, I also come to Muay Thai class with coach Ed. He too is amazing like Payam. He holds pads for his students and teach them good techniques, no shortcut here.

Wildcat offers MMA, Muay Thai, boxing, and BJJ, and the level of coaching is elite. However, what truly separates Wildcat from other gyms (at least in my opinion) is the people. It's not just that the coaches are high level fighters and technicians that are honest people who care about your growth - everyone here is like family. Coach Alex in particular has had a huge impact on me. His guidance helped me build discipline, confidence and direction. As well as how to apply those lessons to life. He pushes you when you need it, not want it. He'll support you if you're struggling, and genuinely wants the best for you. Coach Murph has always looked out for me, helping me fine tune my technique and pushing me to level up. Having Coach Murph in your corner makes all the difference. I've been in martial arts 3 years and have tried a few places before finding my home with Alex and Wildcat. I can say with confidence that you want to be here - whether you're brand new, experienced, or trying to compete, everyone is treated with respect and encouraged to grow at their own pace. If youre seeking somewhere to train, improve yourself, and be surrounded by positive, driven people. You've found it. Joining Wildcat was the best decision I've ever made.

I asked about the program and they didn't have any helpful context to share about it but they told us to just stay and watch. In addition to the disappointment we experienced from the staff, the studio itself was disgustingly dirty. We switched seats because we noticed a layer of grime on the several seats and left early when we saw that it was a dirty studio throughout. Avoid Batata Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu…read more My son (almost 12) has trained Brazilian jiu-jitsu for 4.5 years. We visited simply to evaluate whether this gym would be a good fit. Within minutes, it was clear the kids class was made up almost entirely of much younger, much smaller beginners. That's not a criticism--it's just not an appropriate training environment for an older, experienced kid who needs the right partners to develop safely. I asked if there were other classes or days with a different mix. I was told this was essentially it. So I politely said it wasn't the right fit and thanked them for their time. That should have been the end of the interaction. Instead, Mr. Batata himself--not just a coach, but the owner--became immediately confrontational in tone, stepped into my personal space, and began making assumptions about why we were considering switching gyms, as if we were doing something wrong by even looking. He then launched into how this "isn't just a business," implying I should somehow structure my life around loyalty to a gym--despite the fact that we were there for the first time and simply trying to make the best decision for my son. It was unreasonable and completely out of line. I calmly explained that we take this very seriously and that changing gyms is a big decision. That didn't matter--he dismissed it and continued with an aggressive, condescending tone. As I was leaving with my son, he kept talking at me, and another instructor joined in. At that point, it crossed from uncomfortable into completely unprofessional. No parent should have to walk their child out of a business while being talked at for simply saying "this isn't the right fit." The entire interaction left both me and my son feeling unsettled and, honestly, a bit icky. That's not something I've ever experienced walking into a jiu-jitsu academy before. This wasn't a misunderstanding. This was the owner reacting poorly to a polite "no," and doing so in front of a child. If this is the tone set at the top, it raises serious concerns about the culture and judgment being modeled in that gym. We walked in open-minded. We walked out uncomfortable. There are plenty of gyms that know how to treat people with basic respect. This is not one of them. Avoid

Travis was our main coach for a few months and I can tell the older kids work better with him. They only have beginner and advanced classes. It would be nice to have an intermediate class as well. My experience with their kids' program has been nothing short of exceptional, hats off to the incredible instructor, Travis! From day one, it was evident that Travis was not only highly skilled in Krav Maga but also knew the knack of teaching and working with children. Whether a child was struggling with a technique or excelling at it, Travis was present very watchfully, providing guidance, support, and positive reinforcement. One of the things that stood out to me the most was Travis's ability to create a supportive and encouraging environment for the kids. Moreover, he has a unique talent for breaking down complex techniques into simple, easy-to-understand steps, making it accessible and observable for children of all skill levels. What stood out to me in particular was his own values, principles and attitude which in my opinion are of paramount importance especially while teaching life skills to others. Beyond his technical expertise, Travis also instilled important values such as team work, discipline, respect, and self-confidence in the children. Through his teaching, my child not only gained valuable self-defense skills but also developed a sense of empowerment and self-assurance that extends beyond the mat. Beth, who is also an instructor and helps with the front desk, is extremely patient and helpful with any questions and a great teacher herself from the classes I've observed! I'd heard of Lagree but never really knew what it was, and didn't even know this was Lagree going into it, but it's basically a more intense form of pilates that uses a megaformer vs the traditional one. I'm glad I had a base of already working out and trying two other similar classes before coming here, so it was a little less intimidating. I think a beginner could definitely get the hang of this, but having a good foundation felt necessary to get the full benefits of the class and workout. And of course instructor direction and examples were a big factor in succeeding in the classes as a newcomer. I've had a handful of different instructors and have definitely found the one that is more my style and more motivating to me (shout out Ankitha), but I've generally liked all of the instructors enough to go back to their classes. Finding an instructor that works for you makes all the difference though when you're powering through a touch class, which these often are. I originally signed up for their first timers offer of 4 classes for $99. Other than that, without a membership classes run at $38 per, but they have a ton of different packages and memberships that could make classes range from $11 (if you went every single day) to $30 with a larger upfront cost. I ended up getting a class pack so that I wasn't limited or expected to attend a certain number of classes a month and have really liked the flexability. They have tons of classes throughout the day and week, so finding an opening isn't too hard.
