Bingo is the name of the game, and those who don't get there early could get shut out. "I play bingo wherever I can, and I like it here a lot," said Mary Anne Fischer. She's not a club member, but you're not required to be for bingo games. "They're so nice here, and everyone acts like you're part of the club," Fischer said. I learned a little something about culture here. Not Slovak culture, but bingo fanatic culture, aka…read moregambling addiction. The space is wide open and airy with lots of long tables, each seating one to three players - many players took up entire tables with their excessive quantity of bingo cards, wide variety of dabbers (often in a specifically designed tote bag), and in some cases, an array of good luck charms. Bright fluorescent lights illuminate the scene and a balcony with overflow seating was our vantage point for observation (and play). Their website says they have a smoking floor and a non smoking floor, so I was imagining a darker smoke filled social hall, but there is now no smoking allowed and I soon realized that bingo is not a social game. With my one bingo card, I had twelve boards to keep up with (twelve is the minimum for play = $12), and let me tell you, I had a hard time staying with it - they call them out fairly rapidly! Chatting and joking with my friend was hardly possible without blowing our game. The food was super limited, low quality, mostly packaged junk. No alcohol is served. There is only one reason to attend and that is for the hope of winning money. There was an interesting buzz in the room toward the end of each game, like the group had a psychic (more like experienced) knowledge that bingo was about to be called. This collective murmur felt like a communal expression of frustration and anxiety. We try so hard, come so close and rarely succeed. The demographic of the room is statistically disadvantaged peoples. In addition to bingo, dealers on the floor sell other sorts of game tickets, like paper slot machine cards. The psychological exchange between the dealers and the players was like a crack deal; the dealers knew many of the players, knew when to come around, what to say and used lingo an outsider would not understand. There was an antsy desperation to win among the addicted, me, I just wanted to get outta there. With a packed house, there is no doubt someone is winning, that is the Slovak Catholic Sokols and their beneficiaries. As for the venue, although full of characters, it has no character itself - it is one of those big quick construction metal buildings.

These two wonderful ladies are hands-down the best I've encountered anywhere. I hold players cards at multiple casinos throughout Northern Nevada and have had many handpays over the years, so I don't say that lightly. Maryanne and Tiff are professional, efficient, knowledgeable, and genuinely kind--exactly the type of people you hope to see when you're on the floor. Beyond the staff, Rivers Casino itself is held to exceptionally high standards. The property is clean, well-run, and clearly takes guest experience seriously. While there are a few quirks we're not used to in Nevada--like ID checks at the door and the strict policy of no one under 21 being allowed to walk through the building--these are honestly things Nevada should be doing. Rivers gets it right. Overall, this is an amazing place, and I can confidently say I truly love it--more than our own casinos back home in Nevada. Very impressed, and I'll absolutely be back.

Came here for the AMBOY Filipino popup and was so happy at the result!…read moreWe loved the food! We greatly enjoyed the servers. They were kind and fun, obviously skilled at their jobs. Let's get the one problem out of the way: Our only issue was that the host was incredibly cold and seemed very irritated with us, which we were not used to. We tried to joke and interact in an upbeat way, but they almost seemed to be repulsed by us and annoyed that we were talking to them. We had a reservation, so we really didn't have a choice. I suggest Spirit find a different position for that host, as good of a person as I am sure they are, they don't seem to like people at all. I am taking off a star because of the host being a complete buzzkill to the beginning of our experience. Who you hire matters! Where is 3D Mark or someone who loves to play and makes you feel like family? As for the food, five stars. We loved Chef Raf's pop-up! We loved that it felt like a beautiful combo of Spirit's pizza kitchen with Raf's high quality filipino flavors! The drinks were good. We were delighted at the vegan options and all of the cool nonalcoholic drinks. LOVE. The atmosphere was also super cool. Lots of plants, a moose horn, a bear head mascot mask thing, windows with natural light that slightly look out onto the street. It's not that big of a space in the room we were, but there's one big booth in the back that can sit maybe 7 people if you squish.

We went on a weeknight for a "late night" dinner. (Around 9 pm). We were greeted and seated right away. I started with a shrub & soda and my boyfriend ordered a beer. We split the pickle plate for an appetizer and then we split a pepperoni pizza. We both agreed the pickle plate was our favorite bite of the night. The pizza was good, but the sauce is sweet and that's not our preference. But we still finished it as leftovers the next day, so it was good! lol the vibes at Spirit are great. Their bar/restaurant space is really nice! I'm looking forward to checking out their rooftop space soon!
