Recently renovated, Western Market DC is great for a place to meet with friends who don't all want to eat at the same restaurant or cuisine. You have your choice of Indian, Venezuelan, Burmese, Italian, Japanese, Mediterranean, and more. Maman (which replaced Paul Bakery), Andy's Pizza, and Falafel Inc are superb. The only national chain restaurant is Chipotle. In the warmer months you can sit in the outdoor space outside Chipotle, but it gets busy and crowded fast so reserving chairs for friends on their way is a challenge. There's a lot to love about Western Market DC. First of all, it's a block-long food hall on GW's campus. Walk inside and find many local restaurants (and one or two non-local places like maman), seating, art, and even a book vending machine. It's a great place to hang out, work, or study. There's street parking nearby that can be tricky to find, but the Metro is very close. read more

This place is a great find! Affordable eats in a clean, modern environment and most of the vendors here have delicious food! There's pizza, Indian, Thai, Italian, Fried Chicken, ice cream, burgers, falafels, Venezuelan, and even an açaí bowls place! During the day, especially during lunch time, lines are long and busy. This place is located close to a college, so lots of young folks gather! The food is priced for the college students making this an exceptional find! Stumbled across this food hall the other day looking for pizza and wound up getting acai bowls instead! It has a wide variety of dining options, lots of seating, nice bathrooms, and it's near the Foggy Bottom metro - but also an easy walk from the Mall. Pricing was all pretty reasonable too! I like the variety of restaurants here and chances are you'll find something to eat for anyone in your family. A lot of the restaurants here have their own seating but if needed there are extra tables up for grabs within a short distance from wherever you are. We didn't have any problem finding seating when we went here despite it being a busy weekend. The one negative is that the restrooms are small. There aren't enough stalls for the volume of guests here so there may be a bit of a wait if you need to go. read more

Western Market DC is a food hall that's incredibly accessible to GW students and a walkable distance from Foggy Bottom, Farragut West & North stations. The interior is pretty spacious with a good amount of seating. My friend and I ate dinner here last Tuesday and was able to find a table for the two of us without any issues. Currently, they have a good variety of stalls. Notably, there's Andy's Pizza, Falafel Inc., D/Lai Ice Cream, which are the local eateries I'm familiar with and enjoy. I do want to try Bullfrog Bagels and Gigi's Pasta eventually. Overall, pretty solid location to grab a casual meal and dessert! read more

I've always passed by this place walking from the Foggy Bottom metro to work, and never really had time to stop in until this past weekend. On the outside it seems like there are only a few storefronts, but when you walk inside, it's like an oasis of restaurants that allow you to escape the hustle and bustle from the outside world for just a moment. There are several eateries to choose from, mostly on the affordable side, namely: Falafel Inc.. Bandoola Bowl, and Onkei. There's ample seating which makes it a great place to catch up with friends, colleagues and loved ones. I was able to try a small pop up business that wasn't listed on yelp or Western Market's website - d/lai ice cream which just opened up last year. The ice cream was very high quality and tasted as if talenti opened up their own storefront. The two flavors we chose complemented each other really well - strawberry shortcake and salted caramel crunch. The previous week, my manager got a TooGoodToGo bag from Bullfrog Bagels, which was awesome. We also gave Andy's Pizza and Falafel Inc. a try. The next time we go, we'd love to try maman as the interior is absolutely gorgeous. If you find yourself in between Foggy Bottom and Farragut West, I highly recommend giving Western Market a shot! A convenient and lively spot, especially for GW students. With so many food options in one place, it's perfect for grabbing a quick bite between classes, meeting friends, or taking a break without having to go far. I also love how much indoor seating there is, not just for eating, but for hanging out, studying, or getting some work done. The space feels modern, comfortable, and welcoming, which makes it easy to stay longer than planned. It's great for families with kids as well. I had been here in the past and it's amazing how much it was renovated and how much has changed. It's filled with DC favorites and isn't too overwhelming like Union Market. I went with Gigi's pasta as I had been wanting to try it and It was solid and served hot and fresh. A little pricey for basic, fast casual pasta . This place is awesome. There's two sit down restaurants and over a dozen food stalls with literally everything from pizza to Greek food. I enjoyed a crab roll and lobster bisque from Mason Lobster. Don't let the name fool you. Unlike Eastern Market or other similarly named markets in urban centers, this place is simply a collection of eateries (i.e., food court or hall) located on/near the George Washington University campus. Located about half mile between 2 Metro stations, not super convenient. Also, some of the eateries are closed even during hours when their websites' say they are open. 3 stars only for the fact that there are a variety of eating choices for nearby students & workers. read more

Recently, I went to DC for a business trip, and where we worked was connected to the Western Market. That turned out to be a great spot for breakfast and lunch without having to brave the 30 degree temperatures outside. It was conveniently located from where I was staying in the Foggy Bottom district of DC, across the street from my hotel. Food-wise, it was very satisfying between the bagels at the bagel place that were fresh and satisfying served for breakfast sandwiches. The lobster rolls were also absolutely to die for and I savored every bite. They also have street vendors and sit-down spots that offer pizza, Mediterranean cuisine, sushi, hot chicken and more. Western Market is a fun spot to go to enjoy food and even more enjoyable knowing the history of the original building since the mid 1800s, being torn down in the 1960s into another newer building before being revitalized a few years ago to the original concept and aesthetic. The marketplace worked great for our team that was in town, and we will check out more of the street fare available on our next visit. read more

Hot take, might be better than Union Market? It is amazing to get a food hall that you can breathe and actually find seats at. The staff working is kind and there are plenty of outposts of your favorite DC places to find something for everyone. The bathrooms are clean and there are plenty of seats. A filtered water fountain so you can hangout and work or catchup with friends. I wish it was a little better located, but with the 30s buses you can easily get there. I love not having stairs to walk up and how they redid the historic building. So exciting to see that DC revamped something that was desolate for so long. read more

There are ~10 vendors with lots of ethnic food: Bandaloo Bowls, sushi, Greek, seafood, falafels, South American as well as go-to American foods like New-York style Andy's Pizza and Capo Deli sandwiches and Bullfrog Bagels, and Pauls's at the end, don't miss Bindaas! The only missing cuisines that would be nice to add - tacos, bimbibop, dosa or crepe, smoothie, vegan, and Neapolitan pizza. Note: Rawish vegan place has closed, the stall is empty. It gets pretty crowded and packed during the lunch rush with government workers and GW students. The Roaming Rooster (5/5) - While there are lots of meaty options on the menu, the fried oyster mushroom burger with a buttermilk sauce and slaw hit the spot! Alitiko (4/5) - Best place for fries! The pile of hand-cut fries with potato skin were mouth-watering good and not a single fry was left! The service was stand-offish and nonchalant on taking and making orders. Arepa Zone (5/5) - The mango juice is divine! I want to come back to try their trio arepa flight and Patecon plaintain sandwiches. Great twist on a food court, with gourmet restaurants where everyone in your party can get what they want and sit together. Love that they have restrooms too! More like four and a half stars. Located very close to the GW campus, Western market is in a really nice location so that one can get a mix of different types of food all in one setting. Of the food halls in the DC area I think I like this one quite a bit. I like the ambience and the proximity to other shops in the area. Have a lot of different stores in the area as well so you can really sample a variety of foods very quickly if you come with a group which is really nice. I didn't try the Andy's pizza in this location but others who were in my group have vouched for it. The Duke's grocery is pretty standard and great for drinks the nice thing about dukes and the sports bar at the bottom which was closed on Sunday when we went was that they are open late. One would need to pay attention to the hours of the Western market itself as many of the vendors do close but some of them stay late such as the Indian street food place as well as Captain Cookie and Duke's grocery as well as the other sports bar when it is open. Parking for this market is located on the street and it is free depending on the time of day and which day of the week you go. Prices can vary depending on the shop but I thought given the location and the rent that they have to pay they were quite reasonable given the quantity of food. If I was in the mood I would definitely come back and try it again I'm just happy to find that the variety is not far from where I live which is always a plus! read more

Lots of different good food! Always crowded though due to students and workers. There are dozens of restaurants to choose from.

I knew they had been working on this area for a while, but I was still surprised at what emerged. The historic-looking row of restaurants and a modern building behind them have been adjoined by a new indoor space with various food stalls. It looks quite splendid, and some nice DC locals have been added to the space. Most of them weren't open when I visited and I hit one of the conventional restaurants out front, but I would definitely recommend a visit to Bandoola Bowl. The restrooms and a water bottle station were a bit hidden, in a corner around the largest block of food vendors. read more

Great spot with plenty of varied food options so there's something for everybody. Food was good with and workers were all quite friendly. Service from the couple spots I tried was quite prompt and honestly the prices for all options were quite reasonable. The seating options were plentiful and varied in sizes so there were options for smaller and larger groups, but I will say that I think the interior could just use a little work to make it feel a bit more warm, modern, and inviting rather than like a slightly dated mall if that makes sense. I would definitely recommend though and will be going back to try more of the options. Overall a great place for a casual bite. read more
