But I guess it makes sense, there is a Warehouse and a food court, and not everybody can afford to buy their groceries at Smith and Caugheys... As a mall it is no good, there are few A-List stores, and unless you're getting your hair done or buying a mobile phone, there is not much to see there. You can get good sushi though, and there are plenty of restaurants to choose from, so not all bad really. Hopefully the new owners will bring new life to this mall, because as a Westfield it just didn't work.

Queen Street is just one long mall already, why would you bother to put another one at the bottom of it? And not even a good mall. Tiny, crowded, it feels like there wasn't enough room for it to lie flat so they sort of piled it on top of itself. With the possible exception of the Warehouse (and it'd rank low on a list of Warehouse branches, ordered by range and quality), there is nothing here that you can't get at multiple other places in town. And town has sunlight, which very few malls can boast, especially not this one.

You've got all the major fast foods here, KFC, Pizza Hut and McDonalds. There is a Warehouse and a Noel Leeming, plus nightlife in the form of Miss Q's and Origins Bar, and there is a medical and holistic health area. Looking at it in this perspective, you soon realise that it is much better than it appears. It is a pity it is likely to die a horrible death when the new shopping mall opens across the street, but until then, many other shoppers will continue to frequent this shopping landmark. Can't say I've spent a lot of time here, but when I have done, it's actually been pretty good. Ample parking and you can see all the shops there are, so can't get lost really. There's also a nice park at the back of it. I remember grabbing some food from the Hollywood Bakery and venturing out with my friends on a cloudy day to picnic there. Unfortunately, the ultra violet rays were not that friendly, causing me to get a tad burnt and crispy. Woops.

More inviting for a good old window shop of some of the finest products you can find. The tea rooms are a splitting image of some I saw in Melbourne, just calling out to be explored. There's a chocolate shop, jewellery stores, fashion shops and the last of the few record/DVD stores, Marbecks, to enjoy.

The south arcade is a combination of the Victorian Darby's Building constructed in 1909 and the A.B. Donald Building which was built in 1863. The Arcade was completed in 1929. The completed arcade featured marble, fine woods and beautiful storefronts. Today, it is a shopping arcade filled with shops. Go up and down the escalators to get a closer look. Make sure to go to the rear of the arcade to see the display of New Zealand flags. Not as interesting as the Royal Arcades in Sydney or Melbourne, but nice for a short stop while exploring Auckland.

If it is outlet shopping you're after, I would still definitely recommend trying Dressmart in Onehunga first, but if you're already out west and just need new running shoes, lingerie or boardies then the Westgate Outlet will be able to take care of you without breaking your bank! Tip: There's plenty of free parking available both at Westgate shopping mall and in front of the outlet strip!

As a marketer it is your job to get people at the door, and once they are there, then the sales staff can do their thing and close the deal. The centre is home to a diverse range of take-away and conventional restaurants, and there is plenty of parking in front and at the back of the building. I normally park at the back to avoid the congestion of rush hour. Considering the lack of good take-away joints in the Bays, I can see why this centre is fully tenanted, and why it is so popular with the customers. I like the fact that it offers food items for all tastes.

One thing to note: in the Westgate area, grocery stores cannot sell alcohol due to local licensing laws, so if you want beer or spirits, you'll need to go to a liquor store. This restriction doesn't apply in Auckland's CBD. Parking is easy with a large lot above and around the mall. While at Woolworths, I noticed a long line outside, which turned out to be for a Justice of the Peace offering free services during certain hours--helpful for locals who need them. Overall, Northwest Shopping Center is convenient if you're nearby and need groceries or a few shops. It's clean, easy to navigate, and has ample parking.

Woolworths is one of the biggest supermarket chains in New Zealand, so we wanted to check it out--mainly to see how much golden kiwis cost here, since this is where they originated. We've been buying them back home in Houston and were curious about the local price. Golden kiwis are delicious, for those who haven't tried. The store was bright, clean, and easy to navigate. The produce section was well stocked, and the golden kiwis looked really fresh--priced a bit lower than what we usually pay in the US but not as cheap as a decade ago :) They also had a nice variety of local fruits and snacks we don't typically see at home. Overall, it was a pleasant stop--convenient location, friendly staff, and plenty of parking. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area and want to see what everyday grocery shopping looks like in New Zealand. The mall itself looks like a typical mall in the US with one exception: the information desk has a helpful attendant! I rarely see an information desk unless it's like the Galleria!

It is people who are interesting, lead interesting lives and are extremely friendly. Each time I have gone to have a coffee at one of the cafes in the arcade or gone to check out the thrift shops, I have always talked to someone about life and everything else in between. My life has seemed so boring and dull after talking to these people. I love the arcade, as it is under stated, different and beautiful. The coffees served at the cafe at the end of the arcade on the right side are absolutely amazing. The cafe also serves some gluten free and a menu that consists of almost all egg everything. Egg lovers, this is heaven for you. The price for everything on the menu is reasonable, plus $4 for a big slice of freshly made carrot cake is a steal! Apart from the cafes and interesting characters, St Kevin's Arcade also houses some amazingly quirky thrift shops. They are worth a peep!

Shore City is compact but seems to have a shop for nearly everything you might need; there's a sportswear shop, a stationery shop, a big Farmers, a healthfood shop, a pharmacy and loads of popular clothing and footwear shops. Oh and there's a Les Mills gym so not forgetting health and fitness. Unlike some other malls you have to drive miles to get to, I always find a park within the first minute of arriving and there are never queues of people in the stores either, possibly not so great for business but makes for a good shopping experience though!
