Its also the closest major shopping centre to the Papakura and the Pukekohe regions. Events are always happening here, whether its a magic show, talent show or a musical guest- major props to Westfield for that and for making parents a little less stressed by having something to distract the kids with! Parking here is usually pretty good with parking lots surrounding all entrances of the mall, but fills up quickly especially on late nights and weekends. Apart from clothing retailers, there are also a number stores for footwear, stationery/books, electronics, jewellery and novelty items. Some great places worth visiting include Pandora, one of the newest in the mall and extremely popular- lots to look at for the ladies; JB Hi-Fi, a tech- and TV-geek's dream destination; and LJ's, because they really do make the best fries in the mall. Manukau caters pretty well in terms of menswear, but lacking a bit in womenswear. Without stores like Max or Portmans for a slightly higher-end option (as opposed to Dotti or Cotton On), there just aren't as many options as there were a few years ago.

It's packed with little Asian shops, bakeries, restaurants and convenience stores. I've enjoyed dinner at The Golden Fortune & Dessert at Rio Kitchen here, despite being one of few caucasians hanging around the place. What can I say? I'm just a little asian on the inside. There's only two things I dislike. 1) The place looks a bit run down and 2) It smells like fish. Perhaps it's imitating a slice of Tokyo or Beijing, but it's not that pleasant when you come from clean, green Auckland. Aside from that, it's a great place to come and experience a different way of life or culture. Depending on the shop, the hours here range from 8am-9pm, but they tend to be open for the full 7 days. So be sure to have a look when you have a sushi craving.

It's a massive store but it's not as full of stock as you'd expect it to be. They do have a semi-interesting range of giftware, costumes and novelty items. They've got about half a wall full of gift bags and tonnes of crepe and tissue paper (I'm a sucker for wrapping and packaging presents!). That was probably the only part of the store I was really interested in. The prices are fairly low and that location is great for picking up that last-minute item for a gift. Otherwise there's nothing to differentiate No. 1 mart from any other dollar store. Hope they pick their game up though- the store is massive and they could stock it with some awesome stuff if they wanted to.

Kmart is great for buying clothes to lounge around the house in at a cheap price and the occasional baking utensil (I just can't resist sometimes). My last visit had me going home with some new lounge trackies for $15 and 6 pairs of socks for $6- a really good bargain if you ask me. This Kmart also has the self-checkout service with handy hanger bins, and I definitely prefer to buy my items this way when I've only got a couple of items. Working in retail, I've seen Kmart sell similar styles they have in malls for a fraction of the cost and usually Kmart has better quality. Just goes to show that it's not always about brands and quality doesn't always have to mean a high price.

Once I had the pleasure of enjoying the Circle Lounge: a place for people with big wallets and gourmet tastes, with its lazy boy seats and little lamps between them. They'll serve you anything you like, including a great range of wines. My only let down with them is the continuously high prices, but that seems to be the case for many cinemas. I tend to go on a cheap Tuesday or in the morning when prices are $11 instead of $17. Otherwise, I really can't complain! It's a great place to watch the latest blockbusters.
