The kids really loved this camp. The really enjoyed cooking and tasting all the different recipes, esp the Boba tea. The had a variety of cultural activities on a day by day basis. At the end of the day they went for the creek and even used little nets to catch fish ( which was always released back). We will definitely return. read more

My kids went to this camp and LOVED it!! This was, hands down, their favorite summer camp. I only wish I signed up for more sessions. It's been weeks and they are still telling us all about their new friends, the recipes and even singing songs they learned. The food they brought home was delicious. The summer camp is fantastic! I am so happy I found this summer camp by chance. My son was so excited to go to camp every day and was sad on the last day. We ended up signing him for another week. They have a wonderful variety of activities each day: music, swimming, art, cooking, Chinese language. The staff are fantastic and sent photos each day. They fed the children healthy and fresh snacks and meals. I will definitely be enrolling my son in classes at the Academy. read more

This is the most AMAZING camp! It totally blew away all of my expectations! Yang and instructors as beyond sweet and they really know how to get the kids engaged in learning Mandarin as well as entertaining them! The kids LOVE it and have also been having a blast learning to cook delicious and healthy meals. It's such a nice break not having to pack lunches. My son was a picky eater and this camp has helped him try more foods. The structure is so well-balanced - the kids learn, cook, and have the opportunity to play in nature. We've tried several other Mandarin Language Schools in Austin. They were good, but I felt that something was missing. (Organization, teachers lacking patience or enough experience, schedule changes with little/no notice . . . etc.) So, when we tried a kids' class at Westlake Chinese Academy, we knew we found a gold mine with their director, Yang Wang. She is patient, kind, brilliant (obtained a PhD in Physics - in her 2nd language - from UT Austin!), highly organized, and she's good with non-neural typical kids. Classes are offered either in person or online and several schools in Austin use Westlake Chinese for their Mandarin lessons. Westlake Chinese also offers a summer experience in China for both kids and adults. Kids take Mandarin and go on field trips, using their Chinese (with their teacher there for assistance) while the adults teach English in the classrooms to Chinese students. Lodging is provided, free for us, by the families of the kids that take English, and those families LOVE their American teachers. Get ready to feel like a superstar when you arrive. It's a win-win for all involved. After jumping around a bit for a few years, we've remained with Wang for 7 years now and will continue with her. Our eldest, now at Cal Berkeley, is majoring/minoring in Mandarin (along with data science) because Wang inspired her so greatly to love the language and culture. My daughter (13) and son (9) have been taking Chinese classes with Westlake Chinese Academy for 6+ months and are very happy. My daughter takes private lessons and my son enjoys the small group classes. Ms. Wang has been incredibly helpful in designing the right fit and learning environment for each child. She and the other passionate teachers at Westlake Chinese Academy always find a way to make class fun - playing games to learn the language, singing songs, making food together for Chinese New Year - all ways to engage with young learners in ways that are age appropriate. As with any learning experience -you still need to put in the work BOTH in class and through homework. My kids have learned so much in a short time and we would highly recommend to any family dedicated to their kids learning Chinese. read more

We moved to Austin about 18 months ago, and have been looking for a good Chinese Mandarin program for our girls that is close by. I speak Mandarin but my wife doesn't, so we don't use Mandarin enough at home. It has felt like pulling teeth to get their girls to speak and to enroll them in classes, but it was to our delight/surprise that our daughter said the Westlake Chinese Academy summer camp was her favorite camp of the entire summer (which included Horseriding, Gymnasitcs, Minecraft Coding, etc etc). My son and daughter have been studying mandarin for the past 5yrs but since they are not native speakers, even though they could read and write in mandarin, they still needed to improve and feel confident about having conversations in mandarin. Ms. Wang is very good at interacting with the children and helping them feel confident in having a conversation. They are currently enrolled in her Summer Camp.
