Obtaining a tattoo is a fun but stressful endeavor, except when done by Rockstar, then it is just…read morefun. Prior to visiting Rockstar for my current tattoo, I have had four tattoos done. My first, done by an artist in Columbia, MD, was a miserable experience. I was nervous, and the artist had no compassion to ease the decision. I basically drew the thing myself, which shocked me to discover he did no artistic rendering help. Then, when it was complete, I felt there were lines missing in the artwork, but was told to 'give it time to heal then return for a touch up', only to discover apparently you have to pay to come in to sit for a touch up. Also, after all this stress, deciding to get my next piece done elsewhere, I then realized I was wildly over charged. So, my next tattoo was done by a shop in Hanover, MD. I loved the artist, however she then moved out of state, forcing me to find a new go-to tattoo shop. My third tattoo, I got with my husband by Rockstar-we just so happened to be nearby (obtaining our marriage license) randomly called that morning, asking if it was possible to pop in to get matching word tattoos to celebrate the moment. The process was so easy & amazing. We simply wanted the word everything, from our favorite novel. She spent as long as we needed combing through fonts to ensure we were both happy with our decision. She did not mind we didn't have something already picked out, she helped us decide what would look good, last longer if stretched, and where to put it. The price was reasonable, so we settled in to get the work done... That's when we met Ted the Tattoo dog. Ted sat on our laps throughout the tattoo experience providing a calm relief. In addition to music in the background & friendly small talk, I knew this was going to be my go-to shop. So, I returned for my latest piece; a larger thigh tattoo, I knew Rockstar was the shop to get a great-reasonable and reliable price, artistic flexibility and input, and when I was ready to pull the trigger I would have a great time sitting and chatting for the hours it would take. The experience did not disappoint! A few hours with Ted, a relaxing inking experience, and a beautiful result. Not to mention, free touch-ups when needed, just call and let her know how it is settling. Plus the bonus in it all, when I told her about my horrible previous experience, she touched up my first piece-adding the lines that were forever missing!

He was knowledgeable, friendly and made sure we understood the piercing process as well as the necessary aftercare. I met Arcadia while waiting for our turn in the piercing room and I told her I recently lost my husband and wanted to get my first tattoo to memorialize him. We discussed design options and I decided to schedule an appointment. Since this was my first, I had a ton of questions and sent her a few images for inspiration. When I arrived for my appointment, she had knocked it out of the park with the design. She brought ny inspiration to life and gave me an amazing first tattoo. Naturally, this resulted in a follow up appointment for another tattoo to match one of my favorite tattoos on my brother. Last but not least, I sent her more pictures for inspiration to give me a realistic 4-leaf clover that would have a circle of 3-digit birthdays of my children surrounding it. As I scanned the space, I noticed toward the back there appeared to be a coffee/tea bar. I was promptly acknowledged and seated at a nail station within moments. I didn't see a posted price list, so I asked about the cost of my services (dipping powder and a chin wax). The first person didn't understand, but my assigned nail technician provided the information. While I found the technician to be highly competent, quick, and efficient, I was surprised when she initiated a FaceTime call--not once, but twice--and remained on the call for nearly the entirety of my visit. Although it didn't affect the quality of the work, and I had no questions during the visit, being on the phone might have made it harder to ask anything if I had needed to. It struck me as slightly unprofessional. That said, the results were great, the service was timely, and the pricing was standard for the area. I haven't yet decided if I'll return, but overall, it was a solid experience.

Now, I'm assigned a nail tech who makes sure to pick a gel polish despite repeated protestations that I cannot do gels. It's been made clear multiple times I am not allowed. The tech rushes me along because apparently I'm taking too long to pick my colors when in fact I'm just taking my turn after friends. She picks my polish and tells me, "Your mom say you can have gel!" Then, the bday girl's mom points out that my mom also told her anything but gel, but at this point I'm under the lights. The tech shrugs and says there's nothing for it now. In what world? How does a nail salon brush aside a girl's protestations and upcharge a birthday party for a manicure expressly NOT requested! How does the tech explain KNOWING what her mother wants having never spoken with her? It seems entirely shady. Not to mention bullying. I am 10 and here as a guest, so I cannot press my point too far as it is supposed to be a happy occasion and the bday girl's day. But when the one parent who is present is also disregarded, that is something. But the shady and intentional upcharging is the worst. Is this how they view us? As marks? As dollar signs? As cretins who don't know what we want? It would explain much of the other complaints and treatment I've seen for this salon. Truly amazing. I will be sure to warn off friends and anyone female to steer clear. Whether it's management or one bad tech, it's clear this has gone on way too long.

I got a French pedicure with gel polish. It turned out exactly how I wanted. I was offered a bottle of water. When it was time for my nails, the lady that did my pedicure sat me down to begin. Shortly after buffing my nails, she explained she needed to take another customer who I assumed to be her regular/appointment customer. While I didn't appreciate being booted to the side, I waited patiently for several minutes before asking someone else who was going to be doing my nails because I had another appointment elsewhere for my lashes and brows. I explained to the next lady what I wanted (French manicure like my toes but with a cateye base) she confirmed she could do it. I also let her know I needed to be out of here by 6. I appreciated her diligence with getting me out by 610pm but my nails weren't exactly how I pictured or what I showed in the picture as an example. I did not have time to get them corrected as I had other appointments for my engagement photoshoot the next day. The nails were pretty and the people were nice but when you pay $150 for services, you hope for them to be exactly how you want. I would try this place again but maybe with a simpler design concept (even though I think some people are capable of detailed designs because I noticed the lady's nails next to mine looked very good)

I initially started coming here because it is close to my home, usually for a brow wax and pedicure. I eventually stopped getting pedicures here because my gel polish consistently began chipping after about a week. However, I was short on time and decided to make an exception. When asked which pedicure I wanted, I specifically requested the Classic Pedicure, advertised in the service book provided to me at $25. I added callus removal, advertised at $11, and requested gel polish. I understand that gel polish is an additional charge and fully expected to pay an upcharge. What I did NOT expect was for a $36 pedicure before the gel upcharge to somehow become $67. When I questioned the total, I specifically asked the older woman at the counter which pedicure service I had been charged for and how much the gel polish upcharge was. Rather than simply itemizing the charges, she responded with clear irritation and told me that a gel pedicure is $40. That explanation still does not account for the total. If the gel pedicure is $40 and callus removal is $11, that equals $51. Even after adding their 2.5% card fee, the total should be approximately $52.28, not $67. I wasn't asking for a discount or refusing to pay. I simply wanted to understand what I was being charged for. A customer should be able to ask for an itemized explanation of a bill without being met with irritation, especially when the final price differs substantially from the advertised services. If there was another $14-$15 charge, no one explained what it was. Businesses should clearly communicate their prices and additional charges before performing a service, and customers should not have to do detective work afterward to figure out why their bill is significantly higher than expected. After six years of patronizing this business, this experience was enough for me to take my business elsewhere.
