They travel in packs with seemingly no regard for skaters taking whatever line they like without looking first. A lot of this blame should go to the parents that drop the kids off unattended and do whatever they do while they wreak havoc without any guidance... So -2 stars from a 6 star rating leaves this park at 4 stars for me. The variety of terrain and the awesome craftsmanship in the concrete is truly bad-ass. The mini bowl is about 3 to 4 feet deep and super addicting. It's a kidney shape with metal coping with smooth lines making it fun and endlessly carveable. The big bowl is 8 feet deep and clover shaped. It has a roll in hip in the center with almost all metal coping with exception to the 2 foot tombstone extension that has pool coping. Being almost 50 years old I don't get any where near that though ;) I do however carve the bleep out of that bowl and really appreciate the epicly smooth concrete. The street course blends into an oval bowl with coping varying from 5 to 8 feet with about half the bowl being a free roll in. There are some stairs and a few steps with rails as well as a few 1/4 pipe features surrounding this section. Beyond all that there is a micro bowl that's about 2 foot deep and some metal rails around the edges of the park. 20k square feet of bliss that is partially ruined by the razor daycare aspect but still totally worth checking out. I love this park and I'm stoked that it is in my home town. Razors were initially not allowed at this park. The parents of the razor kids stepped up at a town meeting and got that rule overturned. It would be great if they stepped up and spent some time with their kids educating them about the park etiquette instead of treating this like a daycare where they can just dump their kids off.

Surrounding the park are 6.5' iron fence Skateboards, inline skates and scooters only. No BMX. No pets allowed. Open sunup to sunset Helmets and pads required but only my kid and another skater were wearing helmets. A BMXr arrived and no problems lots of room We arrived around 7pm on June 18th so there was lots of daylight left. My kid made friends with another skater as they taught each other some skills Plenty of parking. The lot is also shared with dog park and soccer fields. There is a lot on the other side of the skatepark as well near the Scotts Valley Recreation No food or drink allowed in park but you could wheel up an ice cooler next to one of several benches outside of the skate gate and even a small bleacher. A bunch of trails where you climb & then go down. Note: Tractor Trail Closed now until maybe end of July 2012. To get there from Fremont we took Hwy 17 to Summit Rd, keep going on lots of windy road to Highland Way, go until you see lots of SUVs/Cars with bike racks. Park on the side of the road where there's a bridge. Bridge is chained off to cars, hope it open in June 2012, not sure. After parking on the side of the road we walked over the bridge. Trail is nice & wide, soon see a Forest Gate & Signboard w/ FREE maps. One pit toilet w/ tp & seat covers plus foot-pumping sink & paper towels. We continued on Hihn's Mill Rd it's flat & downhill at the beginning, though on the way back lots of Uphill when you're tired out! Then we went on Sulphur Springs Trail (Steep) to a Helipad (where a helicopter could land, just flat, open land, very limited views) to Ridge Trail (had lunch on a bench in Memory of Jim Owen) - down Corral Trail (some steep sections) - to Sulphur back to Hihn's Mill Rd (some uphille parts). Total we did 9.1 miles. Saw: Two California Newts, several banana slugs, & some ticks! I think I saw a newt eating a banana slug! Maybe worth going for expert mountain biking & if you live nearby. Not worth it for this Fremont hiker. I love the shaded tables right next to the playground. The only sand is by the swings, the rest is just the rubber substrate. The restrooms are pretty usable, although they are a little distance from the structures. You may not be able to get little ones there in time if they aren't good at early notification. There is a little kids play structure and a bigger kids structure. There is a water fountain which is very accessible to all. Plenty of slides, a few swings and a variety of climbing activities! There is a tennis court and a big, multi-purpose field. There is a decent parking lot. Pros: location, bbq pits, open tables, shaded tables, restrooms, water fountain, places to play, parking, a lot of trees Cons: possible gang hang out, also (being in Live Oak) there is a possibility of creepy molesters hanging out in the corners. I'm not kidding! There is a guy sitting across the park from me right now staring at my kids. It has been only me, my kids and this guy for the last 90 minutes. I've been staring into his creepy eyes whenever he looks over. Also, Brommer St. runs along it and can be street noisy if that sort of thing bothers your little ones.

But there are many birds here, and many nest right above the lookout spot in the trees. I've seen otters amongst the surfers here as well. And the waves are awesome. It looks to be a more intermediate spot for surfing. As the waves here get pretty large. It gets very packed on weekends and throughout the day. I recommend if you can going on weekday mornings, or parking down in one of the neighborhoods if the lots are still full and walking a little bit. Awesome place! Not really for swimming though, only surfing. And there are some rocks you have to be wary of.

I didn't have the chance to make it up to Henry Cowell State Park, but this location seemed a compromise since I was making my way to the Mystery Spot. I meandered through the trails just east of Branciforte Drive. The trails are well groomed, easy to hike with younger children and pets, and it was such a pleasant quiet morning for me. The trees were so tall and impressive, and I enjoyed being out in nature but close to civilization at the same time. If I had more time in the area, I would have spent more time here. I think it is a great location for locals to get out and enjoy nature!
