There is a mixture of goods for sale. Secondhand books feature prominently - especially craft books (the owner's specialist subject). There are also rich textiles, many from Morocco, and other bits and bobs including jewellery, slippers and lamps. Although the range varies I have seen what looked like a belly dancing costume in the window once, and a rather nice row of bags that seemed to be made out of carpets! Definitely not to be missed if you are visiting Sedbergh.

The Bookseller is a very small second-hand book shop in an old building on Sedbergh Main Street. It…read morehas a very beautiful and eye-catching sign featuring a painting of the Howgill Fells, and once inside the shop it's very nice not only to look at but also to be in, with tall wooden shelves on all sides and an amazing view out of the window of Winder Fell. Recently they have rearranged the shelves and removed a central stack so there is more room to move around, and they have opened up the rear of the shop so that it is now a browsing area, where it previously held the counter. I find the new arrangement a bit off-putting as you are confronted by the owner and the counter as soon as you come in - before they were a bit hidden at the back. The best thing about the Bookseller is that they have some gorgeous old children's books with fabulous illustrations which you don't find so often in the other book shops. However they can be a bit pricey, which is a shame.

Staff and will and eager to help and will order you anything (which arrives quite quickly!) in that they don't have in stock. Hambleton books also have an impressive range of local books and local history books for the curious and the family history buff. Located in the market square it has adequate free public parking.
