WHSmith often gets very crowded, and it's one of those stores that's hard to stay in for long. That said, they usually have a great range of products. Downstairs, there's a spacious section with DVDs, crafting supplies, art materials, and more. The service is pretty good. The items are pretty expensive in WHSmith. 64/100 read more

My local branches of Smiths are typical of the decline of the company but I quite like the branch in Chester. It's bigger, with more choice and even has an in-house Costa coffee shop and a glass sided lift to get from floor to floor if you find the stairs too much of an effort. The 'basement' floor has a clearance section where there's quite a lot of rubbish but the odd genuine bargain mixed in if you're prepared to have a dig. read more

Can be very cramped, crowded and hot within the store, especially on the weekend or bear Christmas. Not many staff member on the floor available for assistance when i need it. The tills are always well staffed however be aware of members of staff who will greet you with a scowl rather than a smile and refuse to give a carrier bag when one is plainly needed. And there always seem to be a queue on the ground floor, but downstairs there is never anyone to serve you when you need the tag taken off of a dvd or cd. Great selections of magazines though ranging from the stock exchange to train collector magazines, also has wide range of newspapers from broadsheets to the local rag. Located in the middle of chester right near the chester walls clock. read more

If I am ever after a particular magazine or publication on a specialist subject then I always go here. It seems that no matter what subject you may be interested in, no matter how obscure, then there will be a magazine for it and the chances are that W H Smith will sell it. This is a smaller store of the chain and hence tends to get very packed, particularly at weekends when you get many people just standing around reading the magazines. As well as publications, they also have books, dvds and stationary items for the home or the office. read more

WH Smith gets very crowded and this is one store I can barely stand to be in for any length of time. This said, there is often a great selection of items for sale and downstairs there is a large area with DVDs, crafting items, art items and much more. Upstairs there are more books as well as a Costa coffee shop with a seating area. read more

you can almost guarentee that WH Smith will much more expensive than online stores such as Amazon and Play.com, leading me to the conclusion that there isnt much point in visitng this store. One thing that you can buy in this store that you probably cant buy online is magazines and newspapers, which is what I mainly use them for. They sell all of the national newspapers as well as local regional ones, and every magazine that you can think of and the great thing about it is that they are all split up into sections, such as women, men, children and computering, as well as others. They do offer some competitive pricing but not much, and I would mich prefer to use the net. Another thing that this store provides that online stores dont is excellent face to face customer service. They are always around to help if need it, and in my personal opinion, they always seem to know what they are talking about and can give you some great advice, such as the other day, I went in to buy some christmas presents, and they gave me advice on what to get people. Not only is it stationary, books, DVD and music do they sell, but they do sell confectionary and you will often find that most stores will sell scratch cards and tickets for the lottery. WH Smith is located all around the county, and I can guarentee that you wont be too far away from one, that is the beauty of this store. read more

GREETING CARDS GALORE !!! im basing this review purely on the greeting card selection at Chester WH SMITHS ... its so hard to find a unique, funny, personal, thoughtful card now a days that you haven't already seen on the shelves at your local supermarket.. I spent a good half hour picking two cards from here yesterday because of the vast selection... A+ and will be buying all future cards from here. read more

WHSmith Foregate Street Chester On coming home from Leave , I went in to browse around WHSmith. On looking around I noticed a poster saying that Andy Mcnab would be promoting his new book Fortress being in the Armed forces , He is a great inspiration and a role model soldier. I was really excited for this event and could not wait to meet him in person, My Dad went to Chester before and he was having a bit of banter with the manager Damien saying that if my Dad would be there at 0830 , He would make him a VIP guest. The book signing wasn't due to start till 1230. True to form me and my dad turned up for 0830 waited 4 hours. Damien had kindly sorted a 10 minute slot with Andy Mcnab. For me being in the military this was one of the best experiences in my life first in line we both went to meet him buzzing with adrenaline. We had a good talk about the books Andy Mcnab had wrote and good conversation. I want to really thank the team at WHSmith at Chester and highlight our thanks to Damien the manager for an amazing day and a brilliant experience thank you. read more

I love Smiths, but this one does have a tendancy to get quite busy and crowded. I normally visit on Christmas shopping trips, so no wonder really! I think they have a good range of products. read more
