This is a large WHSmith store, a travel location serving London Victoria Station. Prices are high here, ultimately you're paying for convenience, if you have more time, you can pick up 90% of the items here at a fraction of the cost, even just a couple of minutes down the road. This is the case at pretty much every WHSmith Travel location. There is a Nescafe Azera coffee machine here, obviously, you have the usual suspects inside the station, but this coffee machine is especially useful if you're in a hurry ahead of getting a train, and don't have time to wait at Starbucks/Costa etc. The checkout area seemed a little too compact for my liking, it became a little messy rather quickly, given the size of the store, it's almost unacceptable as they could easily improve the area. 4*

The ground floor has a huge (and unsurprisingly busy) magazine and newspaper section, as well as a smaller book section, selling fiction, travel and business books. It's usually packed with commuters browsing the magazines while waiting for their train. There's also a food cabinet selling a limited range of drinks and pre-packed sandwiches. Upstairs is the cards and stationery section, with a large choice of greeting cards.

I always see the same man working alone in the store and this little store can become quite busy. They have a huge selection of magazines and newspapers as well as all the basic items you might need. Their shelves are always fully stocked which is a plus. I am not exactly sure if they accept credit cards, never tried due to so many people coming in and out and I don't want to inconvenience everyone else for the sake of £5 or so. They sell bus passes and travel cards and you can top up Oyster. I am almost sure that they open at 7 in the mornings, so if you ran out of credit, tada! There is no cash point in the area, so be prepared. Oh and they do sell scratch cards and the National Lotto.

They do open about 7am, and stay until about 7-8pm 7 days a week. It does get very busy as it is the only local shop to offer Oyster top-ups, bus passes and sell Oyster cards, otherwise you have to travel to a shop near Sainsbury's to get Oysters. If the newspaper you want is out of stock, come back in the evening and a fresh stack will be waiting. It is very clean there, and very well run. Odd times it is closed until later in the morning, but as the one man runs it, of course this can happen due to delays etc. However this is rare, and he will always be open each day in the end. They do take bank debit cards at a 50p standard charge, not sure about credit cards. They even sell batteries!

What I like in particular is that there are always great discounted deals near the counter. I like that they have employed older people to work at the tills, they are extrememly friendly and the people working on the floor are very helpful and knowledgable. I visit WHSmith regularly for stationary despite there being cheaper alernatives because of the above reasons and the great quality.

I was an irritable customer in search of a good power bank together with the right charger and the right cables. I'd had bad luck with another store (which shall be nameless) and wanted to be 100% sure I was getting exactly the right equipment. He gave me his undivided attention for at least 10 minutes and we picked out precisely what I needed. He also saved me £23 on the deal to boot! Give that man a raise someone.

At the end of the day most retailers outside of locations can offer two drinks for £1.80 - £2, here they expect you to pay that for one bottled drink! The checkout area was a little messy, with only one manned desk and the staff seemed unhelpful. One of the better places to get essentials ahead of a journey ahead of Kings Cross, it is probably better for drinks while Little Waitrose across the way is better for food and snacks, WHSmith is a common brand one would find in a railway station and it pretty much is an average store let down by pricing and the checkout area, but still with a good enough choice and overall feel to not warrant such a low rating. 3*
