Their offering includes a range of cottons, wools, acrylics and net. There are a variety of colours and prints and some shimmery sheer fabrics and lace. They also sell clothes patterns and have a section dedicated to curtain fabrics and a range of net curtains. Most of the prices are reasonable, some rather cheap and most are clearly indicated with neon tags...helpful when rooting through loads! The staff are friendly and helpful and happy to let you browse for as long as you need. I wouldn't say Jacks is my favourite fabric shop in the market but it is definitely worth a look!

B&M fabrics also earn bonus points for keeping their stock well organised and neatly displayed, which allows for easy browsing - other fabric shops in the market can have rolls of fabric stacked in slightly chaotic piles. Rather than just a counter you can actually step into the shop and browse the fabrics more closely enabling customers to get a good feel of all the fabrics on offer. The staff always seem to be very helpful but are also happy to allow you to browse. The prices here are probably about average for fabric shops in Leeds. If you don't find what you're looking for at B&M fabrics there are at least two other fabric shops nearby.

I found B and M Fabrics with a great range of things, probably because they are providing fabric to people who can and do actually make their own clothes. I explained my idea to the fabric lady and she took the time to discuss and demonstrate how I could make a wrap-around skirt and how much material I would need to do this. So this was all really helpful but, alas, the skirt remains unmade. Aside from my grand plans, this fabric store has a wide range of fake-fur animal prints, and rolls of table cloth lino and lots of foam or wading.

As the canal bubbles away next door, people mill in and out, browsing the many racks of bargain cuts, huge rolls of material and various assorted items. I came here for the first time a few weeks ago and it's like a crafties' dream. The shop itself is much bigger than those I've visited in Leeds, so there's a lot more choice, and the staff are really lovely and helpful. They have tons to browse, including a number of rolls with money off, and a range of racks with bargain-priced cuts. I purchased some gorgeous tapestry style material and some beautiful embroidered silk for a mere £10! It was meant to be a little more but she knocked off a few pounds and rounded it down to ten. Although there was a bit of a queue, which can't really be helped when purchasing different types of material, that certainly made it worth the wait. For a seriously dreamy browse bring your imagination and let it run wild. There's so much in here to choose from you'll forget what it was that you wanted to make in the first place and start a number of new projects based simply on the exciting material they have in stock!

I was recently given an overlocker as a birthday present. It was bought from Ebay to save money but may have been bashed in transit because when I finally got round to finding threading instructions and cranking it up something inside was stuck fast and it wouldn't do a thing. No! It was too late to try to send it back to the seller so I bussed it into town and managed to carry the heavy box down to Sewing Machine Co. Despite the nice chap in the shop seeming a little confused by my overlocker's unusual malady he seemed confident he'd be able to sort it. He did...by the next day! I was very impressed! Unfortunately after a couple of days I realised there was still a problem, but due to the fact that repairs come with a 3 month guarantee I took the machine back and he quickly fixed it free of charge and was very apologetic. As I know from experience how mysteriously temperamental sewing machines of all kinds can be I didn't hold this against the repairer and was just grateful to have it back and working...and for £30 I thought it was definitely worth it! Sewing Machine Co. also sell machines at reasonable prices, and sell a range of sewing essentials such as thread, needles, scissors and other bits and bobs. They also sharpen scissors - there's nothing like a freshly sharpened pair! On top of this they also have an amazingly impressive looking embroidery machine and can embroider clothing if provided with a design...large and complicated designs can be rather expensive but small motifs or words are very affordable. Overall I think Sewing Machine is a great little shop and essential back up for all sewing machine owners who know how temperamental the things can be!

I have to say, although having only been the once, I was instantly a fan of this fabulous shop…read more Along every wall you'll spot home made trinkets, specially crafted delights, and lovingly crafted goodies that appeal to a wide range of tastes. It's a pure treasure trove of locally crafted art work, paintings, crochet, knitting, jewellery, decorative pieces, hand bags, furniture and more. Each section has its own personality, and the shop shines as a haven of talent, made up of the various creative items displayed within. I realise this perhaps speaks to those who enjoy pretty things a little more than those who don't, but I'd whole heartedly recommend anyone wander in and take a good long browes - be it for gift shopping, inspiration, or simply to marvel at what can be created by our local talent. What's more, Fabrication hold regular classes, including sewing lessons, crochet and more. I've intended upon taking a class for some time, but haven't found the time, although I've heard some very good reports from folks I know who've partaken. Essentially, I've wanted to learn how to sew for a while, since it's one of the many talents my mother has that I didn't take advantage of whilst at home, and would love to see if I can continue the trend. The Brudenell is one of the best music venues I have ever been to. Nice way to commemorate my love of it by framing these cards. Staff were very friendly as well. The Halifax store is only a tiny little shop but they always have a lot of stuff in so it's often quite cramped in there and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone with a pram as you might find it a bit of a struggle! The one thing that I find really lets it down are the staff, I don't think gossiping amongst themselves while serving customers on the till is a very professional attitude to have when working in the retail industry, in fact I find it pretty rude. This isn't just a one off observation it happens every single time i'm in there.

It is a traditional arts and crafts shops, selling quality materials in the way of fine paint brushes, drawing pencils of many kinds, quality paper meant for certain tasks etc. As I say in many other of my reviews, I prefer a more creative way of finding imaginative materials in unexpected places, rather than conforming to these sorts of traditional (overpriced) shops, but for what it is, it is a great thing to have in Headingley, away from the busy pub ridden road.
