Not only was the whole experience so much fun (I had some anxiety about being in a body of water where I cannot see the bottom), but it was super educational, with some facts about the sandstone cliffs we passed and the animals we encountered. With the cool water and the great company, I forgot all about the heat wave we are having and even saw some seals! Will definitely be back for at least one shorter tour, and maybe even a day trip!

Trying to get my camera out in time while still in my car, I got one blurry picture before it scurried off. Grabbing my bag and getting out of my car, I noticed something new to me, a black squirrel. It was on the ground foraging. I took a few pictures and a video and then said hello out loud. It came to attention and started making its way towards me. Eventually, it came to sit on a curb by my car and looked at me, letting me take an up-close picture. After the click it continued on. Exploring the park on foot, I found walkers, runners, foraging gray squirrels, and foraging black squirrels. Walking paths through the trees were gravel and relatively flat near the parking area. Gray squirrels towards the entrance of the park were shelling felled chestnuts and carrying them away. A black squirrel or two ran past with a peanut, not sure from where. Sunlight broke through the canopy of the trees, lighting up the leaves and spots of ground.

There are several different entrances into the park from all surrounding streets. The trails connect all the entrances, but the roads do not connect though. Cornwall park has pickleball courts, tennis courts, basketball courts, frisbee golf, a wading fountain, fields to play in, trails to run on AND MORE! Every time I walk my dogs here, I find new trails and features I haven't seen before. It is well maintained and has a ton of parking within the park so you don't have to walk far. I would recommend pulling up a map if you are looking to get to a specific part of the park for the first time!

Sonofa... seriously people #scoopyourdarnpoop. Other than the poop, it is a neat place with all sorts of options for trails. You can connect to the Lost Lake trail and to the Chuckanut Falls trail from here. My fav: you can park here and take an easy walk about 1.5 miles down the interurban trail to get to Teddy Bear Cove. Just be careful when you have to cross the street at Chuckanut Drive.

Last year was very light so, hopefully there will be more this year. Two years ago, there were hundreds running upstream to spawn. When the water, "boils" with their efforts to climb upstream and place their eggs in the same location they were born, it is a marvel of nature we are incredibly blessed to witness. Please keep pets and kids from scaring the salmon as they are expending every ounce of their remaining life energy to reach their soaring location. But, certainly visit and look closely to find the well camouflaged salmon. Many are well over 2-3' in length. You can often see them molting and splashing as they spend their last moments working hard to continue the salmon life cycle.

The one tree offers a bit of shade to people who want to stand or squat underneath, but it would be nice to have a bench underneath it! The park itself is nice, as it has a bit of a grassy area in which to play or run around. A small, cement pathway surrounds the park, allowing children with walking toys the opportunity to walk around it. It's small, so children are easily seen from any corner of the fenced in area. The play structure is fun, and gives opportunity for adventure, but slightly older toddlers can hurt themselves when trying to explore, as their heads can hit the slide top and cause tumbles down the stairs (not a wide enough space between the slide and the end of the topmost stair).
