They look and taste like bread, pastries and cake should but they lack the X factor. I've popped in there on a whim many times myself, bought a florentine, a macaroon, a slice of chocolate and pear tart and a loaf of walnut bread and always ended up feeling under-whelmed. I suspect one of the reasons people keep coming back to Real Patisserie is because (A) everything is modestly priced and (B) there aren't any other great bakeries around. They gave us a mandarin macaroon on leaving...I am not fond of macaroons, but this could change my mind - it was a-ma-zing - with a great flavour and yummily chewy. Having 'holidayed' in France for most summers growing up, I have been spoilt by great French boulangeries and patisseries, but I must say that Real Patisserie is spot on. Their selection and the quality of their food is great. I used to work in the building where all their bread is made and, on the odd occasion, a market they'd have prepared for would be cancelled. The whole office block would get an email, along the lines of 'we have a tonne of bread that we need to get rid off' and we would all run down to try and make sure we got something before it all sold out! Once you'd tried the bread, you see, the thought of missing it was just too much to bear. It's beautiful bread - made with care and attention. Sweet bread, savoury brea, crusty bread, soft bread - you name it, they do it! They do it well. I like this place a lot and all I hear is good things, so if you haven't tried it yet then please do! I've tried a lot of patisseries, croissant is amazing, crunchy and fresh even by delivery. I've tried some macarons, it was lovely, very tasty and nice texture, nice aroma! The decor is definitely on the hipster side, but I like all the copper piping & white tlies (yes, that probably makes me a hipster...). There's loads more space out the back than you'd imagine, as it looks rather cramped from the outside. The coffee is awesome, in fact I quite often purchase their beans to use at home. I usually go for a flat-white, and my partner a soy flat-white. They've never curdled the soy so far, which can be kinda tricky so top marks there. The thing that keeps me going back there is the baked goods, their sour-dough breads are amazing, especially the seeded one. And the pastries are superb, definitely try the bear claw, it's like a pain-au-chocolate filled with pear goodness. The staff are usually spot on, except if you get there first thing when they look a bit sleepy on a Saturday morning sometimes, but so am I at that point ;)
