This was a great place to get in a water workout in a warm water pool, which is our favorite. We came here to use the pool. They have a lap pool and they also have a warmer pool that includes a lazy river and a couple of lap lanes, along with the children's play area. We were there on a weekday afternoon well swim lessons were going on, but had plenty of space to use one lap lane and the lazy river. They have a set of steps to enter by the lazy river and they have a chairlift that enters into one of the lanes. There's also a hot tub that has steps with a rail to get in. In the family locker room there are two accessible changing rooms with a bathroom and shower, including a shower bench and adjustable showerhead. They have an automatic door opener, which is phenomenal, however, the lock is up pretty high, which makes it less accessible for wheelchair users, and short people. there are two other changing rooms in the family locker space that don't have the automatic button, adjustable showerhead, or shower bench, or grab bars on the toilet, but are still fairly large and have space for a wheelchair user There was plenty of accessible parking and automatic doors to get into the building. The space exiting was pretty tight due to how they have the chairs arranged, somebody with a larger wheelchair may have to exit through the entry lane. We also used the steam room, there was no automatic door, but the door wasn't terribly heavy. Love the swimming pool and lazy river. It is very affordable, but can get very crowded for periods of the day.

Is rec center is massive! It has two levels with the workout area being upstairs. It has a track that goes around and you can see through glass windows downstairs into the pool area and into the basketball court. If you want to play racquetball, you can check out Paddles from the front desk, workout classes upstairs, they even have kids events after hours. If you are working out and have children, make sure to drop them off in the children's pavilion while you work out and then you can take them into the pool, which does include a waterslide and a lazy river. If you want to go swim laps, they do have an open lap pool on the opposite side away from the kid pool, which is nice. There is no outdoor pool, which is the only downfall. read more

I absolutely LOVE Wheat Ridge Rec Center! I think as an active person, this spot is perfect for so many different activities and it certainly does feel judgment-free from what I've experienced the many times I've been so far. It's nice for all ages, there are multiple classes to take each week, and it's very clean. I love the upstairs track to get some laps in or to navigate to my next stopping point for weights or machines. I do wish there were some further machines for certain targeted areas or for when it does get a little busier, but this hasn't hindered my work-out regimen. As a swimmer, the lap pool is gorgeous! I'm very grateful they provide kick boards and pull buoys so I can strength train in the water! I also enjoy the flags above the pool to be able to count my strokes before hitting the wall. It's all extremely helpful! For anyone else wondering as well, I have spotted water weights (they use them in the aqua classes) and pool noodles. Anywho, I love lounging in the lazy river or soaking in the hot tub after completing my laps. Plus, steam room and sauna?! Say less! This spot is super up my alley. It almost feels spa-like and like a true treat to my mental and physical health. The staff has also been so pleasant and helpful every time I've checked-in or had a question. The "open gym" basketball is the most disorganized of any I've ever participated in. Unless you come with 5 people (and there are many groups with 5+ people), you will not have any opportunity to play. Additionally, winning teams can evidently kick off a member of their team and replace them with a friend without the consent of the person getting kicked off. I've played at many open gyms, and I've never had that experience. The cliquey-ness of grown adults is, quite frankly, sad, and the front desk's apathy only furthers how poorly run this facility is. I can't speak for their other services because I only went here for the "open gym," but they desperately need to improve how it operates. You've lost a member. I hope you find ways to improve so that other members can have a better experience. read more

Lots of Family & Kids, please be aware of this fact. Very friendly, many activities for all ages. Showers are great, for older people they may wish to put in some handle bars, but these bathrooms have ample space, the shower head is high, which denotes one cannot change the position, still has ample room. There is 1 shower for wheel chair. It is very obvious this Rec Center put a great deal of thought into the building and the neighborhood clientel. Personally, I do prefer a smaller place with gym, some excellent talks on varying subjects, history and places. Plus a trainer, which the smaller areas in Edgewater do offer. Nonetheless, if you have a family or enjoy a huge pool this is an excellent choice, and I believe their fees are reasonable. read more

Building was clean and large with plenty of parking. Front desk staff was friendly. Pool use was pretty pricey!! Way more expensive then using a city pool in my home town. I believe the cost was $7 for the teen and $8.50 for the adult. The slides were not open. :( I guess due to covid. Also they dont really have set pool hours. When i went to their website, it says they are short staffed and you need to call to find out when open. When i called the machine said to check the website....... Houston we have a problem here. How are we supposed to find out when exactly the pool will be open? Anyhow i called again and managed to catch someone to find out when the pool would b open before we drove over there. You will be required to wear a mask everywhere but inside the pool. So if that is not for you, might want to check out a different location. read more

This rec center is top notch. The classes are the crown jewel here. Huge selection of aquatic, gym and aerobic classes and all are free with the membership. The instructors are very skilled, helpful and knowledgeable. The Zumba classes are a significant workout and you'll have so much fun the hour just slips by. I like that the instructors have been working there so long and they get to know everyone. read more

This is for the skate park. I'm not sure if I'm in the right place but drove by and saw a bunch of skaters shoveling out the snow at the skate park. I had to pull over and take pictures. Not only do you have to skate but you have to shovel out the snow. That's dedication. Skate or die. Love skateboarding! read more

Just when you thought Covid couldn't be any less fun...then enters the wheat ridge rec center pool. No water slide. None of the water features on. No little kids slide. When questioned all we got was "covid". Like...no kidding, but people will touching everything else around the pool. How is it any different? When you choose to visit one of these facilities, there is risk, which you sign away in the release form. So let it rip... Other families that were there also lamented how unfun this pool was. The guards were ridiculous too - really over bearing. Really aggressive. And they are children / teenagers - which says they are lead by really poor management. Hot tip - the Apex center is about 7 min away and awesome. Slides open. A feeling of safety with fun. Will never be back. read more

We were super excited to check this Rec out seeing how it's so much closer to home. Needless to say the staff has been superbly rude from the front desk attendant to the lifeguards and random staff in the aquatic area. Describing them as disrespectful is putting it nicely. They followed my sons around berating them for everything and my kids have awesome manners so it was highly unnecessary!! Literally yelling at youngest son for speaking to me while I was in the hot tub area. We will be sticking to Golden Community Center where they are friendly and don't target children who look different then everyone else. You'd think in 2019 people who stop shitting on "alternative" people. Sorry our tattoos and brown son make your staff feel uneasy! read more

Previously rated it three stars but it's gotten much worse since then. Now the pool is only open 5-11 AM, I haven't seen the water slide open since I joined half a year ago, and they refuse to let me speak to management. They left a comment on my previous review telling them to email them. I did so a month ago and they never answered. They've shifted their lifeguards over to Anderson. The website says Anderson pool is included in a membership, except that doesn't mean anything because when you actually go they tell you it's not. I'm cancelling my membership today. Work out area: Todays Date: May, 28, 2022. Positive: Good, well rounded, almost always working equipment. Front desk is very friendly. Notifications as you walk in are posted (such as pool down or masks required or optional) Negative: In this age of needing to be aware of cleanliness due to viruses that can kill us . . . having full spray bottles of disinfectant and full bottles of hand sanitizer would be the minimum. It would also be great to see employees wiping down equipment. The trainers don't wipe down any of the equipment. Once in a while, cleaning under the equipment as there is always dust and you can tell no one cleans anything in the workout area. I have seen dust and chunks of, I don't know what, under the workout weight equipment. I've seen the same "chingus" under the machines since they reopened March 2021. read more

My sister, my niece (5), my nephew (4) and myself wanted to go swimming. We have been a handful of times. When we checked in, my sister paid and she lives in Lakewood. I remembered I live in the area where you get a discount. We informed them I am in district and the lady said she already charged us and it is too late to change. After swimming I wanted to talk to the front desk again and see if we can get a refund for us. She charged us $24 and it should have been $14.50. They were beyond rude. She said there is no way to get the refund and that it was too late. Then the other front desk employee said she can give a credit to my sister on her account and then I would have to repay the $14.50. That made absolutely no sense. We paid cash and I just asked for $9.50 back in cash. The employee we bought the tickets from called the supervisor and was yelling saying we WANT a refund and we CANT have it but they are refusing. They didn't know how to do their job yet we were the ones they were getting mad at. We had little kids with us. They were so rude. They finally figured it out and didn't say thank you or anything. The younger girl rolled her eyes at us when she gave us our money back. Very very rude. We will find somewhere else to swim and take the kids for recreational classes. read more

We really only experienced the front desk staff, the pool and locker room, so the rest of it could be amazing or horrible. Front desk staff was super friendly and quick to get us checked in, so no complaints there. Here's where my dock in stars comes in, the pool. Everything was open, including the small and big slide, so sounds like that is one step in the right direction for them based on other reviews. However, the pool was COLD! I've been to other rec centers, and they aren't nearly that cold. My kiddo was done rather quickly because of the temp. Another big negative was they called adult swim only at one point when it was all kids and their parents in the pool. Literally 3 adults stayed in. No reason for adult swim at a Rec center that has a separate lap pool and their hot tub is already restricted to 14 and over. As if we weren't already cold in the pool, now we had to wait and be cold out of the pool. Locker rooms were fine and we actually ended up using the shower to rinse off AND warm up! This probably wouldn't be in my top 5 choices to go for indoor swimming at this point. read more

I called the rec on Friday morning to ask about walk in fees and if my teenage daughter and her friends go workout and use the pool. They said no problem and let me know the fees and told me the pool closed at 6:00 pm. When my daughter arrived with her workout written down. Tyler refused for them to go upstairs and workout. So they preceded to make due with gym to do abs, body squats, push-ups and etc. He did not want them any where and said "they were not allowed in there as well. My husband then called the rec to see what the problem was. Tyler then let them finish their workout in the basketball gym. The girls proceeded after to the pool to relax and finish up in hot tub. One life guard told them to get out of hot tub, and the other began to tell them they were ok. The staff seems very confused about your signs up on the wall that states ages allowed and rules! I'm extremely upset since I called in am to make sure there was no problems. There are signs that say 12 and under are not allowed. They are older than a 12 years old! They are A students and amazing athletes!!! They are soon getting their permits, if the law can see fit to put them behind a wheel, they are sure capable to work out in a Friday night instead of being at a party. You think you would want young athletes working out hard in your gym! Wheatridge rec had NO problem TAKING THEIR MONEY and then not let them do anything in the rec center! He made them feel like criminals and gave them a hard time. Shame on you wheatridge rec. We will be attending Golden Rec. We went here because their pool is under construction in Golden. Very spacious facility with plenty of options between free weights, machines, cardio equipment, an upstairs walking track, basketball court, sauna, steam room, hot tub, Olympic swimming pool an additional swimming pool with lazy river and 1 waterslide, hot tub, climbing wall and probably more that I didn't see. Overall a very good place, but it's starting to show some age and grime in places. Other drawbacks are the very specific hours that the waterslide is open, as well as the lazy River. Only specific hours for the climbing wall as well, these nuances provide some obstacles in your enjoyment which is why I can only say good enough for a day pass but would not invest in a membership. read more

We will easily be regulars at Wheat Ridge Rec Center since we live so close. But there are some things that are just...Well, they just seem dated, and the building was completed in 2000. Are 13 year olds really supposed to show this much wear and tear? Even so, this is a great facility and I'm glad it's close at hand for my family. They have child care for some ridiculously low amount ($1.50/half hour, I think). It's a pretty nice room/play area, too. The workout area upstairs circled by an indoor walking/jogging track is nice and has a good number of aerobic machines and weight machines. There are 2 raquetball courts, 2 full size basketball courts (well, 1 court area that can be divided with a curtain divider, but you get the picture), and a climbing wall. Then there are the pools. 1 large lane pool for swimming laps (6 or 8 lanes) and then the recreation pool with a huge waterslide, a lazy river area, and a variable depth area for young 'uns. There's a sauna and hottub too. Yeah, Wheat Ridge Rec Center is A-OK. read more

I never knew you could make a pool not fun, but the staff here does a great job trying. There were three families in the leisure pool and 6 lifeguards. None of the water features were on and when asked they said they would have to clean them, so they aren't turning them on. This isn't an issue with just covid, it seems as if they pick and choose when they want to work. If you have kids who want to have fun, I would recommend Apex or literally any of the other rev centers out there. read more

Not bad, Wheat Ridge Rec Center- not bad! Pretty decent number of elliptical machines, treadmills and stationary bikes, and I have never seen them all in use at once. They also have an area with lots of weight machines, a climbing wall, a room for aerobics classes, indoor track, basketball court, etc. Most of the time I come here, it's to swim. This is where I have to complain a bit. Between the hours of about 3-8 p.m., a local swim team comes in to practice. I don't mind sharing the space, and know that indoor pools can be few and far between. But this team blocks off the vast majority of the lanes, and leaves the rest of the community lap swimmers with only two lanes to share. This poses problems as there are lots of swimmers of various speeds all trying to get their swim on (it can become a train wreck). I think they could squeeze more kids into fewer lanes and give us community swimmers at least another lane, but I digress. First world problems, ammaright? Nice bathrooms, showers, changing areas, etc. Big plus for having private showers- because sometimes a lady doesn't want to get naked in front of a parade of others. And the hot water doesn't run out! Hallelujah. If you are a WR resident and get the 20 visit punch card, it only comes out to be about $3.75 per visit, which is extremely reasonable. So come check it out, but don't clog up my swim lane! =P read more

We love the zero depth pool and the lazy river. It can be very crowded on the weekends. The locker rooms aren't always the cleanest, but the lifeguard staff is super attentive during their duty. They have great community and meeting rooms to reserve. My mom loves playing pickleball here when she's in town too! read more

I didn't see any Rowing Machines but I can make do without . Large indoor swimming pool, Volleyball courts, basketball, racquet ball and a extensive climbing wall. The Wheat Ridge recreation center is just down the road from our house. It makes it easy to access and very hard to have an excuse of being too far away to avoid exercise. The space is nice and reasonably priced for a rec center. I used to swim laps there but I pretty much stopped doing that. The water was always super duper cold and they often close lanes for the local high school swim team. I'm focusing more on the cardio pieces which fit the ticket for what I need. My husband uses the weights and is generally happy with the space as well. Overall it is a basic but well kept up neighborhood rec center. read more

I recently had my daughters birthday party at WRRC and was satisfied with the overall experience. All the kids got an all day swimming pass and a room available for an hour. The price for the party was very reasonable in my opinion. The facility was clean and seamed well managed. The life guards appeared to rotate on the regular which made me feel more confident if anything were to go wrong. All the kids had a blast in the swimming pool! The party room was cleaned up and ready to go right on time, due to another party being there before us. I'm glad everything went as smooth as it did because parties can be hectic at times! read more

There's really nothing wrong with this gym. Yes it's crowded at times and teenagers love to play on the equipment, but they do buy new equipment. I think new ellipticals were placed last year. They have a few spinning bikes, but I haven't seen a spinning class quite yet. The aerobic classes are for beginners only. The hot tub is really big and can hold about 20 people. There's a lazy river circle with inner tubes, it can be relaxing. There is a small track for running, gets pretty hot though. And there is a climbing wall. They have a lot of classes offered, I took the kettle bell class a few times and enjoyed it. The water slide is probably the best thing there. I think they have a daycare area too. I think it's better than 24 hour fitness, for one it costs like $30 a month for residents of Wheat Ridge, and there aren't that many macho guys taking hours and wondering around. It's better than average for price and nice employees. read more

I mean you only pay $5 (if you are a resident, $6.50 if you are not) and you simply get sooo much!! There is what could be considered, an indoor waterpark (one slide, but still!) and the sauna/steam room is men and women. (Which you can't find at any other gym.) I love this place. There is a gym, basketball court, (families play together- it is sooo cute!) and two pools. I mean, there is just so much room and so much to do. I simply love it here. Always open with courteous and friendly staff. I have worked in Recreation and can tell you this center has all of the amenities. I am especially impressed with how they are open most holidays at times when the working class is able to utilize them. Great value and worth paying non residident rates for. There are so many different aspects about this place; some of which I love and some of which are just, well, bad. So we'll go for three stars and I'll give you the breakdown right here... The Good: the licensed preschool. SO good. Our son went here for a couple years and he absolutely loved it. It's sort of a mix between play-based and educational, as the kids range in age from 2.5 to 5 years old. What's great is that the instructors are able to gauge each child's abilities and skills and modify a single activity to appeal to the HUGE difference between the way a 2.5 and a 5 year old perceives, learns, creates, and enjoys something. The instructors are caring and good at what they do. BONUS: it's less expensive than most of the other preschools out there-- including those run by Jeffco Public schools. The Bad: the group swim classes. And when I say "bad," I really mean "abysmal." Our son started at the equivalent of the "preschool level one beginner," which basically meant he didn't know how to swim at all. At first it was great-- the instructors familiarized the kids with water, blowing bubbles, bobbing their heads under the surface, etc. So far so good, right? But that was it. After a FULL YEAR of lessons, playing Ring Around The Rosie in the shallow end (we all fall down!), and lots and lots of trips down the froggie slide, he still couldn't so much as float unsupported. Worse, when they finally promoted him to the level in which they experimented in deep(ish... about 3.5 to 4 ft tops) water, he was suddenly terrified to go in. This, from a kid who had no previous fear of water and would flip headfirst into a pool if mom or dad was there to catch him. Even worse than THAT, when the instructors saw that he was fearful, did they make any attempt to allay those fears? NO. He was ignored completely and allowed to cry on the side of the pool. Not spoken to. Not encouraged. Not even acknowledged. Sorry, but I'm paying as much as those other parents... you don't get to ignore my kid. Long story short, I pulled him out of the WRR swim classes and enrolled him in those at the Berkeley/Scheitler Rec Center. THE DIFFERENCE WAS SHOCKING. Over the course of the following year, our son went from not being able to so much as float on his own, to being the only 5-year-old in a class of 8-year-olds learning to dive (he's the best in the group!), flip kick, backstroke, and be an all-around confident and competent swimmer. We wasted so much money on the swim classes at Wheat Ridge Rec. Never again. As far as the general facilities go, Wheat Ridge Rec is an above-average place. The equipment is a notch above most (i.e. they have Pilates Reformers, but you don't get to use them without paying a seriously hefty surcharge above regular Rec Center fees), and they offer a wide range of group exercise classes. They also offer childcare, but PLEASE NOTE: it's in the same room as the above-mentioned preschool, so childcare isn't available when preschool is in session (roughly 1:00-4:00pm). Kind of an inconvenience for some of us... especially because I've been dying to try Zumba and it's only offered during that time slot. C'est la vie. read more
