We are extremely fortunate to have found places for both of my girls at KinderCare since they were each 6 weeks old (now 7 months and almost 2 years old). The staff members are exceptional: they work seamlessly as a team to fill in gaps or shift around as needed. The director's door was open more often than not and I would see the Director and Assistant Director in the classrooms themselves as well. The director would often open the door for me as I struggled in with my entourage and clunky car seats. She would always reach out to me directly and consistently with billing issues, which was so very helpful as my girls' stipend was paid by DCFS and they NEVER forewarned me of issues or got back to me in a timely manner, so if it wasn't for the Director: my girls would have risked losing their spots due to non-payment. In our 18 months there so far, the 4 core teachers (from the rooms that have 0-18 mos) have remained the same. The turnover is not all bad and in my opinion I would rather have able, willing, and safe staff members there than someone who isn't doing or doesn't want to do the job! And we never lost our "Core Four" so my girls' attachment was not affected. They are extremely good at allowing EI services to be provided and for the child to removed for part of the day every week to attend a DCFS visit. It's not easy to deal with traumatized children and I feel the staff went above and beyond to show my girls they were safe, loved, and cared for. They always provided my little one with plenty of food: I can tell you confidently food is not used as a reward or punishment there: which is a big deal for me and my parenting methods! In fact, they have crackers and fresh fruit for anyone to have in their lobby. My toddler often takes 2 packages of crackers every morning and afternoon whether she eats them or not (I think it's more for comfort and control honestly): it's never been a problem. They provide lots of activities and fun little events for parents to attend! I love that kind of stuff. Finally, they are extremely sensitive and caring to home crises. My girls had a brother who was medically fragile and stayed home with a nurse in lieu of daycare due to his needs. He also went through a series of emergencies in which we were scrambling to function. Everyone was understanding and compassionate during that tumultuous time when we were under-prepared, sleep deprived, and inconsistent. My sweet boy did pass away from his conditions. Within a few days, a package was shipped to our home: signed by our KinderCare family. They gifted us a Seeds of Life memorial tree kit to plant in his honor. It thrives to this day. 18 months ago I was really nervous because KinderCare company tends to have a not so stellar reputation. Wheaton branch is definitely the exception. I have my 2 month old daughter in Kindercare in Wheaton. The staff here is absolutely amazing! Miss Sam who is with my little one all day Monday through Friday is very attentive to my child's needs. They write down from what time she was changed, fed or naps from to! They write a comment on every daily sheet with what my baby enjoyed. Miss Alyssa the director has been so helpful with my numerous phone calls to check up on my daughter (most places would think I am completely insane or mentally unstable). When you have a question when you pick up your child Miss Alyssa is never too busy to come and answer all your questions! My daughter has been here for almost 4 weeks and never had dirty diaper when I came to pick her up and is always fed and smiling (she will let you know if she needs a clean diaper or is hungry). Overall I am very happy with this center. It's clean, children seem content and busy learning/playing, most of the teachers seem to really enjoy early childhood education and being there, and seem to make sincere attempts to make every child feel loved and cared for (which is huge!). We have been with them for just over a year (our daughter started around 8weeks). The infant class room teachers were amazing (and had low to no turnover during that year!). I felt the communicated with us very well about how out kid was doing and I always felt like they were able to kept the ratio low to be able to give the babies healthy attention and snuggles. They also handled the transitions from the small infant to the "bigger baby" class room well. And they also helped our kid transition pretty easy to the toddler class (no big melt downs or anything, they've got transitioning kids down pat). The reason for a 4 vs 5 star review is that now that we are in the toddler class room I feel very little info was given to us as parents about how this class room is different from Infant. Eg we found out no outside food is allowed which was never communicated to use and WAS allowed in Infant, and our kid would benefit from some outside food for health reasons and we've never gotten clarity on how to do this or if it's allowed, partly my fault for not bugging the director, but I feel like they do a poor job of taking initiative to orient current families about the different expectations in in class, how curriculum may change to match the children's growing development, or even introducing the parents to WHO the main teachers are who will be caring for their children now). Another minor complaint is that the verbal hand off communication at pick up in Toddler room is fair to poor, 1) since I cannot drop my child off after 8am I NEVER have met the "lead" teacher in Toddler which bothers me A LOT, I always knew the lead teacher in the infant classes, the knew me and I feel like that verbal handoff in the AM and Pickup was crucial, and 2) the teacher typically there when I pick her up (Ms Patty) always seems to be fairly clueless about my child or what happened, despite the fact she is supposedly primarily assigned to this room, she is an insanely sweet grandma type and my child seems to really love her (which is great!), but I am very unhappy with how clueless she seem about my child (eg my kid has been constipated for weeks and I ask how she was doing during the day eg "how are her BMs?" "did she seem to be straining" ect, and the she just looks like a dear in the headlights and stutters about not knowing and never volunteers any info on how my child is doing over all, at best its "she had a good day" or "she didn't nap much" but nothing elaborated on even when I ask. This may seem minor but since I cannot be with my kid all day since I work I need to know this info so I can relay anything needed to the pediatrician, and I have asked many times for them to monitor her constipation problems, and they always seem clueless so I'm moderately concerned about the lack of communication in the toddler room both between the caregivers and from caregivers to parents. This is not to the point where I think the cons outweigh the pros, but it does bother me, and I feel like it is isolated to this one teacher so far. TL,DR: Over all a -A to B+. The Infant Class rooms and teachers are a A++, and the current center directors are amazing and address concern pretty efficiently and make a big effort to know all the children and parents (no small feat!). The Toddler Class so far is a B- to a C+. And the center as a whole early a C for not doing a good job of orienting continuing families to the new "grades" (eg infant to toddler). read more

EDIT: I ended up never taking my child back there again. While I was there, I saw a baby spit up on the floor and they cleaned it with a bit of carpet cleaner. When I got home, my son had rotavirus. I missed my first week of work staying home with him throwing up and having just ungodly amounts of diarrhea. Then I caught it. Then my mom caught it. Then a babysitter got it. I've had him in home-based daycares since then (it's 2015 now), and we haven't had anything like this since... I'm sure it's a good place, but when your regulations state that a child is allowed back with diarrhea as long as it is "contained in a diaper," I'm not sure it's the best health policy.... **************** I'm giving this place 5 stars for the infant care, as I don't know much about the older kids. My regular home daycare lady had an emergency and canceled daycare at 11:00 the night before the first day of school (I'm a teacher). I managed to get my son into Kindercare the next day, and the staff was very helpful and understanding. I dropped him off in the infant room, went to fill out the paperwork, and when I went back to peek into the room from the window, he was smiling and sitting at a little table while a little girl had her hands on his table and was smiling back at him. My baby has issues with too much noise and light and loud children, and he was happy as a clam here. The fact that all the babies were at his developmental level was good for him. He even actually napped in a crib in the same room, which is pretty unheard of as he usually requires quiet and darkness (it is darker in the corner where the cribs are, but there's still sound). The two ladies in the infant room were wonderful. One lady has been there for 12 years and she seems to really enjoy the babies. There were only 6 babies the day my son was there, and they all seemed to be having a pretty good time romping around on the floor. At the beginning of the day, you fill out a sheet about how the morning has gone, and at the end of the day, you get a report about your child (naps, diapers, food, etc.) The only downside is that at around $85 a day, it's pretty steeply priced compared to home daycare. You get what you pay for, in this case, though. I've gone through a few home day cares now, and it's hard to know what's really going on there unless you have someone super-wonderful. I'll see how this goes as my son keeps attending (assuming I can keep affording it as a single parent with no other parent financial assistance) and will edit this as necessary. read more

We've been happy sending our first child to Kindercare Wheaton. The main staff and teachers take a genuine interest in our infant, and always listen to the detailed, daily directions we sometimes give them for her. They also write us daily activities accomplished. We also always see them clean at the end of the night, and the environment always seems safe & rules seem to be followed. While our baby has been sick non-stop since attending, we hear this is normal for daycare babies. Just not giving a 5 star review because there seems to be quite a bit of staff turnover & often new ladies are caring for our baby at pick-up (though the main daytime teachers are always there & are really fabulous), so some continuity there could be better. read more

I was VERY hesitant to put my son in daycare as he had never been in anyone's care except myself, his father, and grandmother. The director did an awesome job showing us around and making us feel comfortable, and the enrollment process is easy and quick. After 2 weeks of him going, he is already more independent, more outgoing, and definitely showing all the new things he has learned. His teachers are so sweet and always keep me updated, he even added his favorite teacher's name to his vocabulary! I definitely recommend this daycare! It may be a little pricey, but your child is getting the best care! read more

My daughter has been at kindercare for about 2.5 years. She started out in the infant room with Ms. Sam and she's amazing and really loves the babies. Also Ms. Rachel in the two's room is amazing as well. We love it here and highly recommend it for childcare. My 1 year old has been going to KinderCare in Wheaton since he was 3 months old. I was a nervous wreck his first day and called numerous times. His teacher, Ms. Sam, assured me that he was doing great and having a blast with all of his new friends. When I went to pick him up that day, all my nerves went out the window. I walked in the room and he had the biggest smile on his face. Seeing that, it ensured me we made the right decision. And from that day on, I have had no worries that he wasn't having fun or taken good care of. I have gotten to know the other teachers in the center and I only have positive things to say about each one. Both the Director and Assistant Director (who are both amazing and so friendly) are always there and willing to talk to me about anything I may have questions about. My son has food allergies and they both, along with his teachers and the cook, have taken everything very seriously and check in with me when something new is introduced on the menu. I would recommend this center to anyone in the Wheaton area that is looking for a safe, fun, and trustworthy daycare to send their child. read more
