Something feels amiss here. I can't quite put my finger on it. The Tudor building is stunning. This boozer offers all the facilities that would usually make it a roaring success: large layout, function rooms, food, beer garden, function rooms. Yet unfortunately it appears to be on life support, with many of the locals nominating neighbouring Old Market Tavern and Orange Tree as favoured drinking holes.
I think the problem has been a lack of care on the part of the Landlord to make this place a home, because after all, that is what every is essentially looking for in a public house; a home from home. Yes, it's true that you can have a great time on a busier night here, but it still lacks luster. As it turns out, the Landlord has put this place on the market, so perhaps the next proprietor will resuscitate the Wheatsheaf and give it some welly. read more
