I stayed at the…read morenearby Star Inn for a week, and since they don't serve breakfast, The Last Post was the most practical option, especially on a Sunday morning when everything else is closed. The pub itself is JDW 1-0-1, from the single-large-room layout with the familiar decor and mile-long bar to the standardized menu with the "club" days (Mexican Monday, Steak Club Tuesday, Fish Friday, Sunday Roast, etc). The actual prices vary depending on location (London JDW's are naturally the most expensive). Here, you get the large traditional breakfast at UKP 4.70 (see photo). I had that on the two Sunday mornings I spent in Beeston, and was satisfied by it as usual. There's no better breakfast bang for the buck than at JDW's. The pub seemed well maintained, as did the beers. Whatever else you can say about the Spoon, they are on the forefront of the real ale revival, always offering more than a handful of hand-pumped ales, changed frequently (and even more, more quickly changed, during one of their frequent "beer festivals"). The Last Post is no different in that regard. The Last Post is a reliable, if unsurprising, choice for drinks and pub food. It's open during hours when all the other places are closed.

The problem is that this isn't up to 'Spoons usual standard of service: there are often way too few staff to cope with demand leading to long queues at the bar, and I've more than once had food orders wrong or in need of re-heating, which isn't what you'd expect. The usual 'Spoons arrangement with a single rather large room (it used to be part of the old Post Office next door) means it lacks the warmth and cosiness of smaller pubs and it's harder to ignore the TVs. Beer is cheap, varied and usually in good condition; food is cheapish and usually OK, if uninspiring.

A quaint English Pub backing up along the River of Tyne. This original Pub has stood since 1800, and has kept its rural charm and rustic character. I tried all of their local Ales, and all equally tasty. The food, while plain and simple, is just what is needed to satisfy the hunger brought on from the brisk fresh air of the country side. I did also notice that this is quite the hideaway for the local beauties, and as my roaming eye wondered, I found myself enjoying ALL of the local attractions.

Especially the whole(!) grilled chicken peri-peri style with fries, four onion rings and coleslaw for just £ 9.29, which was rather good indeed. My friend had the chicken wings with the hottest-possible glazing, and hot they certainly were! Everything appeared to be on a higher level than JDW. And again like in a Spoon, there was no music playing, which we greatly appreciated. The Bank keeps a minimum of three cask ales ready and fresh, and there's the whole encyclopedia of alcoholic beverages on offer. The menu is expansive, and obviously this is great value for money food. When I'm back to Nottingham I shall certainly return to The Bank. All four of us felt that way.

Overall, I'm truly at about 3.5 for this place but I'll round down to 3 because 4 is definitely too high. I'd try it again to see if in Lincoln again, but overall it just seemed like a decent pub with decent cask ale. It's a Marston's pub so has selections from the Marston's range of beers as the primary offerings, which is not a problem. They had some good ones - Old Thumper, Pedigree, and Hobgoblin, plus 61 Deep which I have not had and one empty pump. They have 5 pumps in total. That is a big plus, but they had nothing particularly special. The beer (Old Thumper) was in good condition but not perfect condition so it could have been better. It seems pretty good but was a bit slapdash in service and how it was run. It was very crowded. The place itself is nice and has a great location between the castle and cathedral. It definitely gets 4 for the place and location, as well as the decent range of good cask ales, 3 stars for the less then perfect condition of the beer and the general impression that the service and cleaning are decent but could be better.

The second I noticed, I rang to see if I could have a refund and because I had 1 item of food in the order they said no refund at all. My drinks were bottles and should not have been opened, if anyone took the shots then they should have paid and I should have been refunded. Regardless it's food that's now wasted, it's their apps fault, the way it was handled was abysmal. I have screen shots to not only prove that I was originally on the right location so it wasn't a human error and screenshots of the times between each order and my call.

They have a limited menu, and limited deserts but the food they do is lovely and its served quickly and is hot. There was only one member of staff serving in the dining area but they were friendly, polite and effiecent. The place is also clean and tidy and a nice little friendly pub.
