This place is ABSOLUTELY beautiful & it is definitely a hidden gem, not too far from Chicago. Since it's so hot outside everyone is looking for somewhere to hangout and enjoy the weather without having to spend a ton of money. This place definitely fits that description! Imagine being on a island with beautiful blue water .. ok now imagine not having to catch a plane to experience it. At this beach you get to experience the most beautiful view of the Chicago skyline, clear blue water, without the hustle and bustle of the busy city. This is a great place to bring your children and enjoy the warm weather with your family and friends. Their is plenty of parking nearby and plenty of amazing photo opp's within the beach. I love coming here! I love the waterpark on the lake. It is never super crowded. You buy the hour you want to go. An hour is perfect for adults. A bunch of us adults did the two hour deal and couldn't make it past an hour and twenty minutes. So it is definitely worth the money! Parking is like $15 for a full day. I gave my Parking pass to someone showing up as I was leaving. If you don't want to do the waterpark they have many other things you can do. read more

First time here and what a surprise on the Lake Michigan lakefront in Whiting, Indiana. This has been a beach offering in Whiting for decades but they have really spent some money and time making it a place to visit. Nice jog trails and plenty of parking make this very user friendly. A block or two away is a nice housing development where they have torn down the old stock and put up some nice condos. This is a nice area on the improve...give it a try. read more

Love, love, LOVE beaches in the offseason Whihala Beach, I just can't quit you. #hearteyesfordays Here's the deal: first & foremost, yes...yes, it is a blustery day--the kind where your fingertips ache from taking one million pics of the water and your eyes feel like they might be a bit frozen. While I can't speak to this spot in the summer, I can tell you that it's worth bundling up and checking it out now. It's unreal--so peaceful, so beautiful. There are about a zillion places to walk and parking for the masses (we were the only car there today, but still). The grounds are SO clean--Whiting takes great care of this beach. There are currently a bunch of lighted holiday decorations up and probably look amazing after dark (although I cannot confirm this...yet). My standard word-to-the-wise for beach visiting in the cold: dress warmly, bring your fully-charged cell phone, and watch your step. The last one is really important if you're down by the water. I hit a "soft spot" & sunk to my ankle at one point, so just tread lightly and be aware. Also, seagulls are EVERYWHERE, or at least they were today. They hover very closely but are friendly enough (read as: *not* like Hitchcock's famous "Birds" ;). Stay warm out there and watch out for the icy patches on the sidewalk closest to the water. :) read more

One of the better places in Whiting! They have remodeled the park tons in the last two years, making it more touristy- but in a positive light. The pier, park itself, and the beach were finally given much needed attention and can finally reflect the nice neighbor hood whiting has turned into. The only thing that isn't as great is how they recently put in parking meters around the park. If you live in whiting you can get a sticker voucher so you don't have to pay- but if not its just like Chicago. If you are visiting, it'd be worth your time to roll through and enjoy the scenery - and the Chicago skyline from our side of the pond. read more

It's a great alternative to the crowded beaches in the city and it's an easy walk to and from downtown Whiting, IN, which I also recommend checking out. Incredibly clean, great facilities, lots of beautiful lookout areas, places to picnic, take a walk, and let the kids play. We brought our bicycles and rode into the downtown area to make the most of our trip. It was very cute and quaint. read more

This beach is simply peaceful, relaxing and fun to visit. I felt like I was in the islands. It is very clean and have great view of lake Michigan. There are lots of ground and water activities and events during the summer. The staff is friendly and helpful. It's my favorite beach. read more

The passport parking works! I got 2 tickets last year when I tried using it. Gave it another try today and I didn't get a ticket. Price has gone up to $15 to park all day :/ but you can choose $3 an hour. I think the passport app has a convenience fee. read more

Drove about an hour and a half from the far west suburbs of Chicago. I love this beach due to its tranquil feel compared to the beaches downtown. Waves are alot bigger the canopy is excellent for picnics! Will return in the future :D read more

I recently took my 3 children to the Whihala Beach for the first time ever, and I had the best time. The two things that most impressed me was the cleanliness of the beach, and the plentiful presence of lifeguards! The sand felt so good under my feet... no stickers or weeds or trash to contend with. It didn't smell fishy or moldy like some places I've been... It was wonderful. The drive from where I live in IL, in the SW Chicago suburbs, took me about an hour, but in the end I felt was worth it. I will bring my family here regularly, thanks so much for a great experience! read more

Must try out the whoazone if you are into fun activities. It is an absolute blast. I am in my 20's and ran the course with friends and we enjoyed it greatly. This is fun for all ages as long as you are able to get through it. Everyone wears a life vest and it is sure to give you many laughs along the way. This is a beautiful park/beach. My daughter and I just happened to stumble across this park, so we decided to park and take a quick walk around. Just went out to the pier and back, maybe gone from the vehicle 20 mins. I did not realize, or see, that the park had metered parking. When I came back to the car, there was a $53.00 parking citation on the windshield. Pretty expensive 20 min. stroll. So BEWARE that the park is patrolled and they will ticket you. I just wanted to warn and tell folks that if you go to this beautiful park, it is metered parking and if you miss that signage, then the fine is extremely hefty. read more

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. the life guard on duty didn't take time to properly fit people for life jackets. Not worth it at all. They let way too many kids on here to begin with. Absolutely no supervision at all. Kids running around like crazy in it. My friends and I bought the tickets thinking it was a race obstacle course and it would be fun. Nope. Too many kids. They don't even run races on it why? Cause kids are just everywhere sitting on everything pushing everyone no parent supervision what so ever. Someone got hurt everyone had to sit down for 20 min which was not given back to the 45 mins we paid for. Then once that session was up they kicked everyone off we had paid for a double session and then waited an additional 15 mins to be let back on. Again not added back to the additional time paid for. So we paid for 90 mins and was on it for about 50 mins out of the 90 we paid for and each session is 45 mins. But doesn't matter because again it's filled with kids running wild. Then on top of that the thing started to deflate. I fell through a connection pice and was stuck because of the life jacket it was squeezing me and I couldn't breath . I was able to get out by taking the jacket off and swimming out from under the course. No life guard or nothing. What if that was a kid and a kid who couldn't swim? Back to everything deflating. Which made it all the more dangerous. This place is an absolute rip off. Took 4 days just to hear back from customer service if they offer military discount which they got back to me AFTER purchasing the ticket. Do not waste your money here. The Beach is nice enough this place is an absolute scam and a disaster waiting to happen. read more
