A great park with amenities for a picnic, a hike, a beach adventure and for just listening to the waves. We found parking quickly and we're able to download the app and pay for an hour to sit and have our picnic lunch near the water. They had plenty of pavilions and tables for eating, as well as benches along the paths. We loved the various play equipment and options for families and especially the green spaces right next to the dunes. Something for everyone! We only saw portapotties, so that might be the only small issue but we were also there before the official start of the season. A fun spot and will definitely return when in the area! read more

I decided to go to Gary Indiana's WindDown Wednesdays @ Marquette Park/ Beach to SUPPORT My Amazing City. Full Bar, Live Music with both an Amazing Band and my cousin DJN4RED provided the perfect Music. This Is What Gary n the Summer Time is All About. They have Food Trucks , Full Bar and Great Music. Perfect Day in the Summer Time. I Love to have a Great Time with old Classmates, Family and Good Friends. Ambience was off the Chain; out in the Fresh Air right off the Lake Michigan. Located in Gary, IN, this beach Park is ok. It was clean and not as crowded as I thought it would be when we visited on July 4th. There is a snack shop with food that seemed reasonably priced but I cannot comment on the quality since we didn't eat while we were there. There were several families with dogs but they were told to stay in one particular area by the lifeguards so be sure to check with them if you want to bring your fur babies. Coolers are permitted as are beach chairs, inflatable floats, paddle boards, etc. the walk to the beach from the snack shop and restrooms could use some work but it was passable and got us to the water quickly. Unfortunately the water was just way too cold for us on our visit. We only waded to about thigh level--that was certainly enough to cool us down after lying on the beach for a bit. On a clear day, you can see the Chicago skyline across the lake which is nice but you also see two huge factories on either end of the beach as well. So there's a bit of give and take there. There's nothing outstanding about this beach park but also nothing that would keep me from going back in the future. In the Midwest, we can't be too picky about our beaches as we get so few of them. I have heard there are nicer beaches in the area so maybe next time we will drive a bit further to see what's available. read more

This park has so much offer, it spans over 3 miles of Lake Michigan beaches, and connect two sections of the national park. It includes hiking trails and bicycling areas. It's easy to off of the Marquette Trail and ride to the beach here. Plus there's a really fun playground for the kids, and a ADA kayak launch. So much to hike to and see here. Scenic and lovely, never very crowded. read more

This review is meant specifically for the pavilion section of the park. A few weeks ago, we attended a beautiful wedding at the pavilion. The building that it was held in were old baths re-vamped into a mid-sized event venue. The architecture was beautiful stone with full columns, a courtyard garden, and a beautiful view of the beach. There were a ton of bathrooms downstairs, adequate food storage, and more than enough space for a decent sized party. The beach-view area was also used as a dance floor and a DJ had enough space to set-up in the corner. I really enjoyed this little gem of a place quite a bit. It was a fabulous choice for the two most awesome lesbians in the world to get married. We wish them all of the best. read more

Lots of mosquitoes!! Like a lot of mosquitoes, but if they don't bother you then come and enjoy! Came here to hang with my husband from south suburbs chicago and scenery is great, it's a Beautiful beach just lots of mosquitoes. read more

This park deeply surprised me. My bias toward Gary being a sad and crime ridden city was totally unfounded in this beautiful, historic, well kept park where all the people we encountered were friendly. The playground is immaculate and cute. The lagoon and bridges are so fun and unique for walking. The spaces are well groomed and I'm so grateful the lovely historic facilities appear to have been kept up so nicely. We didn't utilize the beaches but they appeared clean and to have plenty of room for lots of people. Only challenge during our morning and evening visits was that we couldn't easily locate bathroom facilities (this is a problem when you have little kids). Nonetheless, this park was one of the best parts of our visit to Miller Beach. A real gem! read more

The park it's is beautiful brides beware don't have your wedding here! The staff is unprofessional the food is awful. The only good thing was the landscape for pics. They only give you 1 hour to set up for your wedding and when you ask for management no one knows what is going on. Beautiful historic landmark, not so great director to work with. My experience with the director Tiffany Merrills was devastating to say the least. Planning a wedding should be one of the most memorable moments in life. Tiffany has made my experience a complete nightmare. Her rude, abrasive, and un-human approach was a complete turn off to conduct business with. Unforeseeable circumstances happen every day, and giving a venue close to a year notice is more than enough time. Nevertheless, I was informed to review terms and agreements. If Marquette Park's mission is having someone run their facility with greed, and has an un-human approach, they have the perfect person in charge! read more

Possibly the most beautiful urban park I have ever seen (and I've seen plenty). Jens Jensen landscaped this park so that the natural dunes cut into Lake Michigan in a crescent -- the visual effect is indescribably, painfully beautiful. Around the lagoon are dotted pretty little pieces of architecture from various periods -- different types of pavilions and bridges. There's a nice big beach on Lake Michigan which draws a racially diverse crowd. The beachhouse, which they call the Aquatorium now, is a George Maher work in process of restoration. In and around it there are various statues and plaques you can look at which explain the spot's surprising significance in the histories of aviation, architecture and exploration. The park appears small, but my girlfriend and I were able to walk uninterrupted in the wild, beautiful natural sand dunes for an hour without crossing our own path, or anyone else's. Just keep in mind that this is GI, so you have to watch out for, as a friend who grew up going to this park described them, "people who try to cause disturbances". read more

This is one of the parks I played in growing up, so it will always have a special place in my heart. Some of my favorite childhood memories were coming here and going on nature walks, spending time at the beach, and watching fireworks on the balcony of the Aquatorium. I even imagined having my wedding here at the pavilion...it reminded me of a Victorian mansion. Over the past five years, the park has seen major improvements. The Aquatorium has been restored, and has been seen frequent usage, from weddings to small jazz concerts. They have gondola rides in the lagoon during the summer, as well as movies in the park (they were showing Casablanca tonight). The most popular thing is still the beach, especially during 4th of July and the weekend of the Gary Air Show. It's so great to see great things happening in this park, and the area surrounding it, considering that the rest of the City of Gary is falling apart. I definitely recommend coming through here on a chill summer day and checking it out! You won't regret it! read more
