Overall, the campground does have a lot to offer, and we appreciated the cleanliness and helpfulness once we were settled in.

I thought it was pretty cool the way they reflected pictures onto the ground of the animals they discussed. They taught us not just about the animals of the desert, but also about the rock formations, and constellations as well . They did an introduction before we set out on the trail and an icebreaker, which I also thought was a cool little activity to help us all feel more comfortable. I would definitely do this again, and recommend it for anyone who's never done it. This would be a great activity to bring an out-of-town friend on. FYI- the hell when you first start, the trail is pretty steep.. I was huffing and puffing a bit lol. If you have any knee injuries or struggle with steep land, you might want to sit this one out. The rest of the trail is flat after however the hill is needed to start and end the trail (it probably took like 1-2 minutes to scale it). Also to find the area where the hike starts, you'll want to drive all the way through the park until you get to the parking lot on the left. For some reason, I thought it would be pretty close to when you enter the park, however, it is a little drive.

During the closed season, the paved road system is only accessible to bikes and pedestrians, and no camping is allowed. Thanks to Google, here's some additional useful tidbits: This campground lies within the desert grassland and open oak woodland ecosystems, at an altitude of around 4,300 feet. There are 37 campsites which can accommodate trailers up to 22 feet in length. Camping (or day-use) costs $10.00 per vehicle, and all fees are payable at the time you occupy the site. There's a limit of two vehicles and ten persons per site, for up to 14 days. This accessible campground features rest rooms (the non-flushing kind), picnic areas, an Arizona Trail trailhead and a group-use site by reservation. So why do I dig this place? During the summer, I can haul my kids and their bikes to the campground and have miles of paved roads (and public restrooms) all to ourselves. I don't THINK we were even breaking any laws/rules by being there. Sure, we have to go early or we'll end up featured on the 5:00 news.

The camp host called me a few days before our reservation to confirm everything, go over the main details, and to ask me if I had any questions. I was greeted again by Bill when I arrived and had no problem finding the campsite. It's near the top of the mountain and the drive up is stunning. Our campsite had everything we needed including electricity. The huge fire ring is wonderful for a large group and the covered table area was wonderful. Bill and his wife serviced our outhouse multiple times while we were there and the trash was emptied regularly. Each site has it's own parking "lot" and there are sidewalks leading to the fire ring and ramada. I will definitely camp here again in the future and look forward to coming back! Hopefully Bill and his wife will still be there as they're the best camp hosts.

Our site is at the edge of the road so we have a street light, metal table and metal chairs. Light is not an issue for stargazing as 5 freeway lights illuminate the entire park. Speaking of which, there is a high wall between the park and IH 10. Only sound you hear is when some moron thinks his car will go faster with loud pipes punches it down the ramp. Pool room, game room, TV room has good AC. Shower, laundry and mail room no AC, or at least they do not turn it on and the doors are left open. Not a problem for us as we have our own machines on board. Pool, that was a problem for me. It is a "Designated Smoking Area". WHAT????? I am seriously allergic to tobacco, so pool was not an option. And the smokers sit under the patio cover, with the fans running on them, blowing their nasty stink all over Rhonda is manager M-F, someone else is there for the weekend, Rhonda does not live on property. Rhonda is very helpful and easy to get along with. She said if we did not like our original site (68) we could look at the one we finally chose. Very friendly. When we arrived, someone told us not to leave anything out as the homeless will steal it. We saw 2 homeless people in the daytime right after we arrived. Since then there has been no sign of them. There is CCTV in the park. We originally cable locked our chairs, but stopped and have had no problems. Yes I would come back here. There are some park models here, and they are getting old, but they are well kept for the most part. Some permanent residents had Class A's in not so good condition visually. The sites are close where your awning will almost touch your neighbors RV, but as we were parked next to the road with our door facing roadside, it was like we had a large yard, be it concrete and asphalt, outside our door. We have a long term neighbor behind us who does not believe they should pick up their dog poop. I counted 4 piles the day I arrived when I went over to see if my truck would interfere with his backing up (we both have duallys). Last night we were outside enjoying the cool 89 degree night, and saw the lady with her dog. The dog pooped along the side of the road but in the gravel next to their rig, and she picked the dog up (but not the poop) and went in. This morning on our walk (only 79 degrees) I counted at least 30 piles of poop, around and UNDER their RV. Rhonda said she would be right on it. There was some improvement in a couple of hours.

Experience tells me, that as a business owner, I'm just as much a customer by making the phone call, particularly, when I'm sending Rhonda a paying customer. My review may not mean much to the masses, but I know that the Good Sam Club cares about matters like this because such behavior reflects poorly on them. As an individual, I'm a man of principal, and will air my concerns when a public platform provides me the opportunity. We just stopped by Woody's round up RV Park and it's got a dog gated park and swimming pool…read more Connection was pretty spotty we were assigned site 21 and didn't have luck with connection there so we basically HotSpot the connectivity. We only needed a place to stay with our RV for the weekend to visit the Davis Monthan AFB Air Show. A majority of folks seem to live there and very kind friendly staff but the amenities are a little run down from not a lot of up keep. Sewer did not have a proper cap to keep the smell out they put a cement block on top as substitute. Pool looked like it needed some maintenance. Tucson in general has a lot of homeless around but they never bugged us at our stay here. Other than that Nancy was great at making sure our family had a site for the weekend. It's alright for a short stay. If you are looking for luxury resort it may not meet the highest of standards but decent to get you back on the road.

The background is gorgeous with the pine trees and the mountain. The cons are going up and down to get camping gear from the parking area. The campsite is not recommended for the elderly or people with ambulatory challenges. Here are things to consider before camping at Rose Canyon Campground: 1. Bring a source of light (I.e., flashlight, headlight, and LED lantern light.) It's very dark at night, and there is no light source. 2. A gas camping grill. There is a fire ban during my stay. So that's mean can't BBQ and make a campfire. 3. Make a portable bathroom with a privacy tent. The campground has a vault toilet. It's a walk, and it's very dark at night. 4. Pack up on the hand sanitizer and baby wipes because there are no handwashing stations. Or you can make your own handwashing area. 5. Most important of all is to bring plenty of water. I ALWAYS have my hangtag with my Senior Annual Pass to show. Shane, at kiosk, said Recreation.gov ONLY honors Senior Lifetime Pass. Shane charged me extra $52.00 because I didn't have a Senior Lifetime Pass. My friends behind me in their car were witnessing this transaction. After my camping trip up at Rose Canyon Campground, I went to Sabino Canyon Visitor Center to inquire about why Recreation.gov changed their Senior Passes and how I had to pay an additional fee of $52.00. The employees showed me their brochure which clearly states that my Senior Annual Pass was VALID and I should have NOT BEEN CHARGED the extra fees !. I promptly notified Recreation.gov and through lengthy emails, screen shots of charges, Rose Canyon Campground Facility Manager said that I DID NOT SHOW my Senior Annual Pass to Shane and that's why I was charged!!! WOW !!! MY FRIENDS WERE EYE WITNESSES THAT I SHOWED MY HANGTAG TO SHANE !!! I know the PROTOCOL because I camp a lot and KNOW TO SHOW MY HANGTAG WITH MY SENIOR ANNUAL PASS !!! Rose Canyon Campground Facility Manager has accused me of something I did not do in order for them NOT to reimburse me for the extra fees of $52.00. *** How many SENIOR CITIZENS have they done this to ??? SHAME ON YOU ROSE CANYON CAMPGROUND FACILITY MANAGER AND SHANE FOR EXTRA CHARGES AND TREATING A SENIOR CITIZEN FREQUENT CAMPER AT ROSE CANYON CAMPGROUND IN THIS MANNER !!!
