One was at Luke Antony in Selly Oak, and the other was in lovely lovely Kore in Kings Norton. It's a beautiful salon, and overlooks the green, so that won my vote before I'd taken about 2 steps inside the door. When I did, however, I was warmly welcomed, and surrounded by people with great haircuts. I knew I would do well here. And I did. I had Kevin - who everybody seems to love - and rightly so. Despite the fact that I normally like hairdressers to listen to what I think rather than just going off on their own merry accord, Kevin kind of took control - but all his suggestions were spot-on. I think I love him. I am planning on smuggling him out of there and installing him permanently in my house as my hair slave. It is pricey. It is not astronomical, but it is pricey. That said, I am yet to meet anything other than a very, very satisfied customer of this place - me included. They've not put a foot wrong, as far as I can tell. Keep up the great work, Kore!

A friend of mine recommended it to me as she goes regularly to get her roots dyed. The salon was really stylish, felt clean and it had a friendly vibe so it worked for me. There were a few products available to buy such as shampoo and conditioners but I didn't buy any as I get mine online. I haven't yet had my colour done here so I can't recommend that service, but for a quick trim and a cuppa this is a great place that isn't overly priced like a number of other city centre salons.

The salon was dated and shabby but as I'd already paid and only wanted a trim what could go wrong? Right? Oh my goodness!! Yes the stylist was very nice and friendly but what I left with was a bob shorter than I'd expected and to make matters worse a big chunk was missing off the length on one side and the cut wasn't even straight. On seeing it my friend laughed, that is before she grabbed the scissors and tried to sort it out. All the length around the bob was different. The stylist didn't even blow dry it properly but tried to style it using straighteners. I'm really really disappointed and look a complete fool. And, as so much was cut off I can't go and have it sorted out and have to live with it for a least a month. All in all the salon is dated, shabby and dirty and unprofessional. Yes the staff are friendly but I've had better cuts in the Birmingham Market! Avoid is my advice. And by the way, you get what you paid for and I paid £15 which bought me a haircut that looks like an untrained chimp has done. You've been warned!

I have been to many other local salons and have done the Toni and Guy thing, yet I have never felt as welcome and at ease as I do with the guys at Legend. I always come out with a style I like and most of all something that suits me. All the staff are friendly and over the years I have had my hair done by most of them at one point or another.The thing I have learnt is that they all have different skills and expertise so there is always somebody that can answer your questions, whether its about the cut, colour, or which products are best for your hair type etc. Good honest advice. They keep in touch with their clients via facebook/twitter and have even sent me birthday cards over the years with money off vouchers. My mum is also a regular at Legend and I know she would agree with me when I say that Legend are great at what they do. I think the highest compliment I can give Legend is this, while they have regular training sessions and are up on all the latest trends/colours and cuts, I am a normal everyday girl who likes my hair to look nice so I look and feel nice. This is what Legend do. They give me a great hair cut, great colour and leave me feeling confident that I look good and importantly have a style that is managable on a daily basis. So if you are looking for a friendly service that is both quality and good value then I cant recommend Legend highly enough. Oh and if your lucky they may even throw in a free cuppa!

Legend has very high standards when it comes to offering what the customer wants exactly, they will always give their professional opinion. The products are all top brands such as GHD, Goldwell, kms etc. at very affordable prices. It's a nice local hairdressers, the staff are all great including the part time hair washers and stylists. They make a point of remembering your name and it doesn't matter if you don't visit for months, they will still remember you and your preferred hair treatment and style. I like the fact that it's totally unpretentious with the hairdressers and stylists having a laugh with us customers, not sitting down granite faced in between appointments. The prices are extremely reasonable for the area. I have long hair and wanted it cut, a side fringe cutting in and some blonde highlights. This cost me just £38 which I think is excellent considering I paid over £50 for the same thing at a hair dressers not half a mile down the road! The clients in this hairdressers seem to be a mix of elderly ladies in for their perms and blow drys, and younger women who want similar styles as me. Occasionally you see a bloke in there for a trim but it's very rare, and now a barber shop has opened a few doors down there are very few men coming into Upper Cut. The thing I will always remember about this salon is the first time I went in for highlights the stylist was concerned at the subtle red dye I already had on my hair, she snipped a small amount off and tested the dye on it overnight to make sure it wouldn't go ginger. I've been to loads of hairdressers over the years and this is the first time one has actually checked that the bleach will be OK for my hair shade - this has got to be a good thing because I'd have been very annoyed if my hair had turned a funny colour! During the time I was seated to have my hair done I was offered cups of coffee and magazines to read, my appointment took a couple of hours because I was having two colours put in but it seemed to fly - which is unusual as I am notorious for my lack of patience in hairdressers and the time seems to drag usually. I also had the stylist in Upper Cut trim my three daughters' hairs a couple of months ago; the twelve year old had hers cut and styled, the nine year old had a fringe cut in and a trim at the back - she even managed to cut my fifteen month old (at the time) daughters fringe as it was getting so long that she was developing a squint! I have been very impressed with Upper Cut and I'm kind of sad that I've moved house now and this is too far away for me to visit again. I've sussed out a nice hairdressers local to my new place though and just hope they are half as decent as Upper Cut.

I'm not…read morenormally one for haircuts generally - I prefer an occasional buzz cut in the nearby barbers - but the reason I used this place was to have a once-in-a-blue-moon decent haircut the day before we got married last year. Being a fish out of water in such places I was treated gently and was very happy with what I came out with. Normally tales of prices in such places terrify me, but I think I paid a fairly reasonable £15 for my cut. My wife gets her hair done there, as I mentioned, and is always happy with what she gets. It can get very busy at times and it's often best to book, rather than just show up. Whether you are a haircut-phobic scruff like me, or someone who enjoys the hairdressing experience, I can recommend this place.

They saved my hair!…read more I came here once to see if they could help me after I'd had a hair disaster at another salon nearby. (I'd asked for highlights and I got thick block streaks.) The girls here were great, they completely understood what had gone wrong and they advised me on what to do. They managed to slot me in two days later, brilliant! As I entered the girl on the desk remembered me and came up, smiling and chatting. I was put at ease straight away. They gave me a coffee and a magazine and got to work. A few hours later my hair was complete and I was in shock. There were no blocks of blonde anymore just carefully blended shades complimenting one another. They'd even got my style correct without having to ask. Over the years my hair ideas have changed so I had to step away from Evolution as they want to do the same thing with me each time. I come here for any trims I need and I go elsewhere for my colour.
