Daughter and I stopped in for a look around on one of our walkabouts, and were very pleasantly pleased with what we found and observed. The shop, though looking small from the outside, has two levels of displays inside, and is well-stocked with a fine range of various collectibles, antiques, and such. I liked and appreciated the ambiance -- it was quiet (background music, at low level), with lighting appropriate to the kind of establishment and offerings -- and our cordial and informative host. We enjoyed browsing the several areas of the shop, and checking out the various displays. And amongst the looking around, asking our host a few questions about the shop, and some of the items we found of most interest. It was good to see this fine shop back in business, and wish them well in their endeavours.

Except for the records which are grouped together and near the door. Otherwise it is pure browsing. Some things are super old and yellowed with age. I guess this can also be an educational place to bring your kids to show them what the old televisions or stereos look like. I heard they may move soon due to rental increase and Steel and Oak brewery will take over the premises. So do pop by soon before a slice of history is gone.

In my instance, every-and I do mean every-attempt to contact this business through their website over many months was resoundingly ignored. In a perfect world, we'd all be at liberty to spend hours traversing the city in hopes we might accidentally stumble upon an item we are looking for in a specific shop. In a perfect world, we'd all be at liberty to make endless phone calls to businesses in our search for a specific item. Cue the 21st Century, where we have this miraculous invention called the internet. A place where one can carpetbomb positive reviews, yet in the same breath not actually engage with customer inquiries. When things don't add up properly, there is usually a good reason for the discrepancy.

Perhaps it was the recent Talk thread on tea sets? There were a couple of teapots right by the door, in fact, and just tons of dishes, trays, silverware, candlesticks, and other gorgeous accoutrements for the distinguished table ... I felt like I was in antique heaven! The shopkeeper with the lovely British accent was bargaining with another customer, and I browsed happily for a good ten minutes, pondering the big-ticket temptations (a lovely dining-table for $795) and the smaller luxuries (matched set of stunning Victorian silver plate candelabras, all swooping arms and graceful curves, for $99), to the truly tempting treats (cup & saucer sets from $8.95). I'll definitely be back, as I'm pondering putting together a (charmingly and deliberately) mis-matched tea set for tea parties with small friends (this way, if/when a piece gets broken, it's no sweat to replace it). She has mugs, some china sets, a bunch of brass stuff and some silver. I saw some very beautiful tapestries too. There were lots of interesting gift items. There's a really good price range. You could spend a little or a lot here, it's up to you. The owner is really cheerful and helpful if you want help otherwise you could just wander. So much to look at. I love little shops like this, they are like a treasure hunt. L
