The information I went in for WAS beer related though. You see, for Christmas they has this most excellent window display that really caught my eye. It was a nativity scene. But not just any nativity scene, it was created out of Guinness bottles. The Joseph Guinness had a little shepherd hat on and everything...but the kicker, the real "win" in this whole thing was the baby Jesus. Baby Jesus was being played by a tiny eensy weensy Guinness bottle in a little manger.....it was freakin' AWESOME! So anyhow, I walk in and ask the bartender if I can get a baby Jesus to go. (Mind you, the window display was not up anymore since it was January when I went in to ask this) And she didn't bat an eyelash, she knew just what I was talking about and was super friendly and chatty with me telling me all about how the owner brought the baby Jesus back from Ireland and that they didn't have any to sell unfortunately. But she was one of the nicest people I met in all of Ipswich and I wish now that I had indeed asked for that pint. By the by, I rated this as pricey, but then everything in the UK seemed pretty pricey to me....so I may be biased in my opinion.

What a mistake!!! We waited ages for a table which we had booked in advance, waited ages for our orders to be taken, waited ages for the meal to turn up - which turned up without any veg - which we had to wait a further five minutes for after the rest of our dinner had been delivered to our table. We had to laugh when they finally got round to asking us if we fancied dessert - NO THANKS!

The menu has an enormous range of food- we struggle to choose just 1 main each because so many of them sound completely scrumptious. The pub really does sell traditional 'pub grub' -good steaks, lasagne, roasts etc- none of those small portion, fancy 'nouveau cuisine' dishes here. There is a daily roast with a different meat every day and the vegetables that accompany this are beautiful- fresh, colourful and not overcooked. Service is prompt, but not too prompt, prices are very reasonable and the landlady Avril is very keen to please and friendly. We've no negative feedback for this pub and gladly recommend it to our friends when they ask for a good 'food pub' recommendation. The pub closes on Mondays and has closed some other week day evenings recently when I assume, sadly business has been slow- if in doubt, do give them a call first.

The lunchtime menu, while not hugely extensive, has a decent range of items including veggie friendly dishes. I opted for a steak sandwich, which was absolutely fine. My wife had a panini which was equally well-received. Another bonus was that the prices were pretty reasonable. The good thing about Degero is that it is close to the town centre while just far enough away to prevent it being standing-room only. We had no trouble getting a table and rapid service on a warm Saturday afternoon. We will definitely visit Degero's again.
