We were disappointed with our client intake experience at White House Nannies. From the outset, the focus seemed to be more on why they couldn't help us rather than exploring how they could. Our family's needs are admittedly unique -- we're looking for a nanny every other week and a house manager during the alternate weeks -- but this nuance didn't seem to receive much attention or creative problem-solving. Compared to other agencies we've interacted with recently (such as ABC Nanny Source), this experience felt rigid and dismissive. Even informal posts on the DC Moms web board yielded more promising conversations. White House Nannies also charges fees up front, which we've found is not the case with many other services. Perhaps most surprising was being told there is a severe shortage of qualified nannies, with estimated start dates more than 8 weeks out. That has not been our experience elsewhere, either through agencies or direct outreach. In short, while their reputation led us to expect a thoughtful and solutions-oriented process, we came away feeling that our time and needs weren't valued. We ultimately decided to pursue other avenues that felt more responsive, flexible, and aligned with our expectations. read more

Two years ago we had a sudden, pressing need for a nanny and contacted a couple of agencies. WH Nannies was the most responsive, and had someone readily available. What going with WH Nannies did for us was being able to outsource the kinds of logistical background items that would have left us behind on the 8-ball on finding someone: they do the pre-screening, they do the background check, they clear the paperwork, etc. so you don't have to. If they recommend someone, whether or not it's an ideal fit you know it's at least going to be a good fit, with a high floor. We had a couple of world class people, such as Alessandra and Hailey. They helped our family through one of the roughest stretches anyone could wish for as our youngest child had some chronic health issues. It did not matter that she had issues, that we had two dogs, or anything else. Everything got handled with aplomb. The one time things did not work out with one person in particular, WHN helped us address the situation promptly and gracefully, demonstrating the highest of standards and a firm commitment to excellence for the families they service. I won't sugar coat it: they are pricey, but so worth it. I have zero reservations about recommending them. Simply top notch service. read more

I used this service for the very first time last week while my family and I were in DC and I was very nervous as I have never had anyone watch my 5 year old besides family and school of course. The hotel provided me with a list of Nanny services and this was the 2nd place I contacted as the 1st one did not get back to me. I was contacted the very next day and was explained in detail on how the services work and so on. I was then contacted by Cosette and we talked about the hours we needed care for, we even texted and called a couple of times before meeting and I slowly felt comfortable with Cosette. When she arrived at our room my son was happy to see her and both my husband and I were still a little nervous, he went downstairs and I continued to talk with Cosette and felt more comfortable. We even texted her while we were out at dinner with family and everything was going well. I was so happy! We used her again the very next evening and she was truly WONDERFUL! I have a tough baby. Like, I'm raising a small Margaret Thatcher. Because I work in foreign policy, I travel a lot, and because my five month old refuses to drink from a bottle, she comes with me everywhere. That means we have tried nannies and nanny agencies in Canada, Barcelona, New York, LA, and many, many other locales. White House Nannies is so expensive that I balked at turning to them for a long time. But after having multiple sitters recommended by DC friends abandon ship after a single day with my sweet but strongly opinionated baby, I gave in out of desperation. I am so glad I did. They are expensive but worth every penny. They found me a nanny who was willing to work extremely long days, was timely, and had all the basics of childcare down. But most important, she was an absolutely baby whisperer. My little one actually drank from a bottle with her one day! On the second day she refused - and the nanny got her to eat pureed food so that I didn't have to find a way to rush home and nurse. It was the calmest business trip I've ever had, because even as my baby threw curve ball after curve ball and kept changing her modus operandi, the sitter accommodated and figured out just what to do. Also, having worked with other nanny agencies, this was by far the most professional. They have some bad reviews here, which I believe are all from people disgruntled not to be accepted as nannies. As a family, we desperately needed a nanny. I called several times to understand our options and there were no detailed explanations of the process, expectations, or guidance. There was just a "pay your money and we'll send you options," kind of a vibe. Once it was clear that the nanny they sent us expected more money than was budgeted by our family -and we couldn't afford her to keep her, Whitehouse Nannies simply would not return further phone calls or emails. We are absolutely thrilled with our experience of White House Nannies. We could not be happier or more grateful to this wonderful placement agency, and to the wonderful nanny they sent us, and we highly recommend them to anyone looking for quality care for their children. I think the biggest mistake we made as parents was trying to hire caregivers on our own - we could not have been more disappointed or more traumatized by our previous experiences, one that was recommended by friends and another that we hired off care.com. I was seriously considering quitting my excellent job altogether because I was so unhappy with the caregivers we were finding, and then we finally contacted the part-time division of White House Nannies. We could not be more grateful to this wonderful agency. They just waved their magic wands over the whole mess and the next week Mary Poppins showed up at our door. We could not love Nanny Elaine more than we do - she could not be more perfect than she has been. She has been with us for three and a half months now, and every minute of every single day has been outstanding. She is fantastic with the baby, the perfect combination of capable and competent and nurturing and pleasant. She spends the entire day working with her - teaching her new skills, reading to her, listening to classical music, walking her in the park. I actually find myself looking forward to the days that she is with us - I know our baby is in excellent hands, and I can just focus on my job, even treat myself to a quiet cup of coffee at my desk in the morning and a gym class on my way home. I am so grateful to have found her, so relieved to finally have someone we can trust with the baby, so grateful to her and to the wonderful agency that sent her to us. What a fabulous experience this has been - what an absolute godsend for our family. The one thing I would mention is that this service is extremely expensive, and there are additional layers of payments involved with using them. First, they charge a $300 registration fee to use the service. Once they find a nanny, you pay the service $45 per day. Then, you pay your nanny $18-22 an hour. Our nanny had tons of experience, and deserves the $22 an hour that she requested. Then, you need to contact Homework Solutions or another tax company to start paying taxes on what you are paying the nanny. They charge you a $75 registration fee, and $150 per quarter to file the taxes. We thought we could just pay the taxes at the end of the year - DO NOT MAKE THIS MISTAKE! We ended up paying a penalty on the first quarter we reported because we were late with our filing. After paying Homework Solutions, then you pay the taxes on what you are paying your nanny. So, be prepared for this service to incredibly expensive. But I truly think this is the best money we have ever spent. There is nothing more important than the safety and well-being of our baby and I would make any sacrifice to assure that she is safe. I wish I would have just shelled out the cash and worked with this agency to begin with rather than trying to hire our own caregivers!!! read more

I don't typically leave reviews, but I was actually appalled when dealing with their agency. I have always head such great things about White House Nannies. When my job decided they'd like to host an event for Bring Your Child to Work Day I was quick to suggest we use them for extra set of hands. From the beginning they were a hassle and missing the entire point of everything I was requesting from them. I told them we have our own activities planned and have 3 people plus myself in the office as an extra set of hands to watch children, so we were looking to enlist 2 of their caregivers. They kept trying to force us to pay for additional caregivers and their activities that they put on, even though I told them it is not necessary we have activities for the children covered. To have them back out and send this rude email was very unprofessional in my opinion. They're basically telling us they do not want to affiliate themselves with us because we do not live up to their standards. Basically because we do not want to give their company additional money they've decided we aren't good enough to work with them. I was sure to share this email with several mothers in this office who were also shocked in disbelief about how this company runs things. Needless to say, they will not be getting services from anyone in this office. For work or home related needs. Typically, when we handle events with large numbers of children we are able to align with the company around the appropriate number of trained professionals present. This agency is completely unethical. We are a family who hired a Nanny from Whitehouse nannies because we expected a good experience. It was the complete opposite. They barely screened the nanny they sent to us, after she accepted our offer we let our other nanny go. The Whitehouse Nanny then came back with a list of new demands, including higher pay, and said if we didn't meet them Barbara at WHN would place her somewhere else. She also told us that Barbara had coached her against us for more money - and we are the ones paying the high fees!!! WHN only wants to drive up the price of the nanny so they get a bigger cut (they are paid a % of 1st year's pay). You are wasting your money to go with WHN - they will give you a Nanny that looks good on paper and coach her against you to raise her fees. Complete lack of ethics or integrity - stay away from this business!!! read more

All the providers I have worked with are great. Punctual, professional, and caring. You can tell when you get home from work, that your kids had a good day. The nannies are great at communicating and even do extra stuff when they can...kids are in bed and nanny is there for a few hours...the dishes are done and the play room is more tidy than when you left! They always send someone with a vivacious personality and stong educational background. Some nannies work on piano with the children or help them excel in languages and homework, it's almost like having a tutor! These girls work hard to make sure you child is happy, having fun and on the same schedule he/she would be if you were home with them. I would highly recommend using this service. I have hired Temporary White House Nannies for my son for almost 9 years and have had one positive experience after another. Over time, we have evolved into emailing and texting as a convenient way to communicate. The staff in the office is always professional and friendly. The nannies seem qualified and punctual...always greeting us with a smile. Reliability is also key to the success of WHN. The feedback provided by my son has been positive as well. (Only once did he say a nanny seemed tired...and bored. That's once in 9 years!!) My son especially enjoys when a nanny brings board games or card games or helps him with homework. I rarely write reviews but wanted to write one for White House Nannies because of our amazing experience with them. I was one of many thousands of DC area parents who became increasingly anxious about childcare options after area summer camps began to cancel due to the ongoing pandemic. My husband and I had been putting off a search for a nanny simply because between homeschooling two small children and balancing two busy full-time jobs, we didn't have the time to post an ad, interview nannies, check out references, do background checks and make sure the nanny was a great fit for our specific needs. At the recommendation of a friend, I contacted White House Nannies and that changed the course of my summer. Despite their own increasing work load because of the surge in demand for Nannies/sitters, they were able to find us a great nanny for the summer within just a couple of weeks and handled almost all of the work that had paralyzed us into inaction. The only thing we needed to do was interview the candidates for a final round to make sure it was a good fit and contact a provider that handled taxes and payroll (White House Nannies gave us a reference for the provider). A wonderful experience and extremely responsive staff. They are more expensive than some other options (or certainly than looking for someone yourself) but if you have very little time and willing to spend the money, they are great. I would not recommend White House Nannies if you are looking for a nanny. I contacted them back in January in desperate need for a nanny. They said they'd get right on it. After many emails wondering how the search was going they finally sent a candidate a a month later who didn't seem like the right fit (she didn't speak english well). They told me they would continue looking. Over the next few months, I had to reach out to them every time to see how the search was going, they would say they were still looking. It is now June and I've not heard from them again. I called to get my $300 deposit back and they were unable to give it to me because they "sent me a canidate". If you're looking for a nanny, I would look elsewhere. read more

As a parent looking to hire a nanny, I would not recommend this service. After more than three months working with this agency, I still had not found a suitable nanny to hire. I had mistakenly thought I might get a "better" group of candidates sent to me from the agency, but I did not find this to be the case. Moreover, the agency seemed only to send candidates when I called to inquire about the status of the search. I did not feel like they were monitoring the status of my search with my deadline in mind. We ultimately parted ways once the agency agreed they would not likely have additional candidates in time for the date I needed a nanny. Once I began looking on my own, I was able to easily and quickly find a number of nannies who met all of my criteria and I had a final hire in under two weeks. Don't do it! My temporary White House Nanny called out and no replacement was supplied or even offered. As a result of this, I was not able to go to work. (I found out about this via a voice mail message from a WHN staff member late Sunday evening and had no time to find a replacement for Monday). As bad as that was, the most offensive part was that on top of their failure to render the services agreed to, the staff and management were extrememly rude and unapologetic. I called this agency upon a recommendation from a friend. She told me to make sure to ask for "Barbara." I spoke to whoever answered the phone, who stated that Barbara was out, but that she'd take my information and Barbara would return my call as soon as she returned. We spent close to 30 minutes on the phone so that she could gather all the relevant information. At the end of the call, she said Barbara would get back to me asap. No one ever got back to me. A total waste of time and completely unprofessional! In this economy, I was expecting the job search to be a bad experience but I was incredibly impressed with White House Nannies. From the first time I contacted them, until after I was officially hired, they were incredibly professional, kind, and (perhaps most importantly) straight-forward. Whether you are a parent looking for a nanny or a nanny looking for a family to work with, it's incredibly important that your agency gets to know you so that they can make the best match. I felt like this was where this agency really excels. Parents, I can tell you that they thoroughly checked out every reference and former employer, as well as other aspects of my background - more so than any other place through which I've gotten a nanny/child care position. I was also impressed with the interviews I had with them. They are very perceptive when dealing with a potential nanny and know what red flags (or even semi-red flags) to look for. The family I work for now is absolutely fantastic and I don't plan on leaving, but should I ever be in a position to look for a job in the DC/NOVA/MD area in the future, I will definitely go through them again because they thoroughly vet their nanny candidates and take the time to make the best match. read more

This service does not deliver. Sent us only two candidates in two months--one was not suitable, the other lived so far away she didn't want the job although we met her salary demand. I feel that White House Nannies goes above and beyond for the client and because of that we as Nannies are able to build lasting relationships. I have worked very hard to build a good reputation as a child care provider and it is important to me to work for an agency that has a good reputation as well. We were extremely impressed with the staff, who really took the time to understand our needs and preferences and sent us several very competitive candidates to consider. Our nanny has told us that she only would take a job (and she changes jobs very rarely) through White House Nannies and not a list-serve or word-of-mouth. My sense is that there is a subset of highly-qualified nannies who aren't "on the market" through free sources, and when you go through an agency, you get access to a different kind of talent pool. My experience with WHN has been nothing but positive. Barbara, Annie, Stephanie and all of the amazing staff at WHN were so thoughtful, considerate, patient and great advocates for me in my search as a nanny. They actually reached out to me after completing my application process for temporary nanny work with the company (which I totally recommend doing. It's a great and fun way to earn some extra cash!) and encouraged me to pursue full time nanny positions. I was so honored that they took the time to see the potential and pursue it! It did take me a bit longer than expected to find my Nanny Family, but when I did, it was worth the wait! Throughout that elongated process, I must have called these poor people 2-3 times a week, they could recognize me by my voice. However, as trying as that might have been for them, Annie always answered my calls and emails with enthusiasm, encouragement and understanding. They didn't give up on me and now I'm living my dream! Sounds dramatic, but I could not have imagined having such fun every day at "work" with such an incredible family to interact with without the phenomenal staff at White House Nannies. They provide regular training opportunities for their nannies, fun outings for nannies and their kiddos to build a sense of community and, for those potential nanny families, they really do look out for your needs as well. They only sent me to families they really thought would be a good match. I scoured those job postings assuming, "Maybe they just hadn't thought of me yet for this job" when in fact they had and realized that that was not going to be the best fit for either of us.
