Compared to other agencies we've interacted with recently (such as ABC Nanny Source), this experience felt rigid and dismissive. Even informal posts on the DC Moms web board yielded more promising conversations. White House Nannies also charges fees up front, which we've found is not the case with many other services. Perhaps most surprising was being told there is a severe shortage of qualified nannies, with estimated start dates more than 8 weeks out. That has not been our experience elsewhere, either through agencies or direct outreach. If they recommend someone, whether or not it's an ideal fit you know it's at least going to be a good fit, with a high floor. We had a couple of world class people, such as Alessandra and Hailey. They helped our family through one of the roughest stretches anyone could wish for as our youngest child had some chronic health issues. It did not matter that she had issues, that we had two dogs, or anything else. Everything got handled with aplomb. The one time things did not work out with one person in particular, WHN helped us address the situation promptly and gracefully, demonstrating the highest of standards and a firm commitment to excellence for the families they service. I won't sugar coat it: they are pricey, but so worth it. I have zero reservations about recommending them. Simply top notch service.

We had one incident where she took out 3 colors of play dough and was making shapes with the stamps......... ON THE CARPET. She didn't realize she was creating the marks (leaving play dough stuck in the carpet) and didn't realize it was a carpet (she said she thought it was a play mat). I think we all make mistakes. She apologized. She didn't blame my son. He has never done play dough anywhere on the floor or carpet, and never used more than one color. I read on the internet that one needs to wait for it to dry before trying to remove it. I contacted the company later that day and very politely asked "what are we going to do about it if it doesn't come off?" The admin lady blamed my child knowing nothing about the situation. She said the kid probably told her to do it... and more blaming things, which were completely not true. She said she would speak to a supervisor and get back to me. She, nor anyone did get back with me. That's very unprofessional with not covering for your employee's mistake, and getting back to me.

She organizes the best monthly activities for the au pairs and I wish sometimes I could be an au pair just to participate in the fun outings and parties! (Laser tag, Halloween event, Christmas event, pool safety event, etc, etc). She shares all the information we need regarding schools in the area and any clarifications we request. From the beginning it was clear that Carmen, the owner, takes cleanliness, compliance with industry standards and safety seriously. They've been great at communicating with us and it feels like our little one is part of a family there. We've been very pleased with Carmen's Pride & Joy's professionalism and personal touch. Carmen even came over to our house on Father's Day to drop a card off for Dad (me!). That shows you how much they're paying attention to the details at Carmen's and how much they care. It's a great environment and we feel good dropping our little girl off - and picking her up - every day.

They are great about having both free time as well as thoughtful, engaging, and developmentally appropriate activities like painting, drawing, crafts, sensory, dress up, singing, dancing, etc. Ms Elisa - one of the lead daycare workers there - is an absolute gem and really intentional with the kids! The daycare is an in-home space, so there aren't too many kids, which meant they all got really close and truly started acting like best friends. Carmen's sick policy is pretty strict but I will also say that our son didn't get sick often because of it - so pros and cons. The only other thing to note is that Carmen's does close two weeks in the summer and over the winter holidays. So if you can get help for those weeks then great, but it can be tough for those who cant. Overall, I would definitely recommend CPJs, especially if you're local to Hill East or the Rosedale neighborhood. It's a lovely in-home daycare and we miss them already!

HPS is a lovely school and our son was happy there. Unfortunately, the school ended up leaving us with a very bad impression. We initially enrolled him two days per week, half time. When we enrolled, they told us that if he was happy, we could move from two to three days and eventually to full time three or five days. One month in, when we saw how happy he was, we moved him from two days half time to three days half time. It went great. One month later, we wanted to move him full time three days a week. Then the problems began. The school manager gave us conflicting and sometimes false excuses for refusing our request. Finally, after we insisted about half a dozen times she summoned us to her office. In essence, she said that if we wanted to have our son spend more time in the school we would need to hire an occupational therapist to spend all day with him at school. Our son has a speech delay (started speaking at three) and he does not follow instructions or adjust to routines as easily as fully verbal three year olds. HPS ended up using the challenges associated with his spech delay to demand that we basically hire another teacher exclusively for our son. We found this request innapropriate. I have doubts as to whether it is even legal. All told, they simply did not want our son there and were unwilling to work with us to navigate his speech delay and related challenges. This is all very sad to us. We have now enrolled him at another school, five days a week, full time. Many people are very happy at HPS and they may never encounter any similar issues. I just want to leave this review out there for parents to carefully consider HPS before enrolling, especially if you are thinking of increasing throughout the year the number of days your child is there or if your child has a speech delay or any other developmental delay.

This passion is apparent with the significant high level of engagement every single day. The Hill Preschool is a positive and enriching environment for children, and my child is healthy and happy every single day, gaining confidence and knowledge that has set a foundation for the rest of his life. The teachers are selfless, kind, and dedicated. The facility is clean and full of enriching activities. The teachers are also great at communicating with parents daily both in person and online with a portal that outlines the activities for the week and pictures so you can keep up with what your little ones are doing. Not only do I feel comfort in knowing my child is cared for and safe, I also know my child is receiving a holistic approach to early childhood education. The children have routine and stay active, and the teachers build a curriculum for the children where they learn about their community, art, science, architecture, biology, music, and more. The teachers take the children on several field trips that coincide with their curriculum visiting the Botanic Gardens, the Natural History Museum, National Gallery of Art, and local businesses to enhance what they are learning every day. I could not recommend the Hill Preschool enough, and I only wish I had found it sooner.

Ms. Kiesha ubered to the hotel (so we didn't have to worry about paying for her parking). She arrived early, and as soon as I met her, I felt as though I have known her forever. She asked us several questions about our son, his needs and schedule, while immediately tending to him. I was able to witness her singing to him, reading to him, teaching him, and loving him. He was so happy to be with her. My husband and I felt so comfortable leaving our son with her. Throughout the night, she sent us several updates and pictures. We didn't even have to ask for those - which is comforting. Once we got back, she actually wrote out a full update/report about our son's night and when his last diaper change and bottle were. If Kiesha lived in my city, I would want to work with her EVERYDAY!! (And she does travel, so we will consider that in the future for family vacations). I'm so thankful for people like Ms. Kiesha and FMOTG. They help making parenting (especially working parents) a bit easier. I can't wait to get back to DC and call her up again!!
