I remember quite well the first time I joined an organization in my beloved parish, the Children's Choir, and NSOLL has felt like a home to me. NSOLL has a solemn feel, numerous seats, kind parishioners, and most importantly, dedicated, intelligent and inspiring priests to help Christians be closer to our Creator as they attend masses. Daily, the masses are as follows: 5:30 am, 6:30 am, 7:30 am and 6 pm. Every Saturday at 7:30 am, a Healing Mass with the imposition if Holy Oil is held. Every Sunday, the mass schedules are as follows: 5am to 12 nn (by the hour), 3:30 pm, which is a Family Mass, and 5pm to 7 pm (by the hour). Not only these, there are several organizations in this parish that aims to help and offer free/discounted services for everyone, such as medical check ups, school supplies drive, Christmas drive, etc. The Youth can also participate in fun and soul-nourishing activities and events during summer and in other selected schedules all through out the year.

Personally, this church is meaningful for me because it's the one in which my parents and their families grew up. I remember vaguely visiting this place as a child and recently got to visit it again as an adult. There is so much history here and you can see the Spanish influences in the architecture. There was a nun practicing on the organ the day that I came here with my father to tour the cathedral and that made the visit even more beautiful. I highly recommend a visit to this lovely place even if you're not Catholic; the history of Angeles and the influence of the Spaniards' rule is evident within its walls.

It has high vaulted ceilings, a row of stained glass windows on either side and a heavy wooden double door. The design of the church is lets in a lot of natural light and is pretty airy so even afternoon mass is not that hot. I love that there's a huge garden just beside it so if you want to hold a wedding here, that would be the perfect reception venue (no more bridal car, no more moving guests about -- just get hitched then start eating!) The church is at it's loveliest during the December dawn mass. They start playing festive Christmas music at 3am on their PA system. Since my house is right beside it, I can hear it form my bedroom and it's really an awesome way to wake up on those cold December nights. They light up the tube lights outlining the facade of the church so that it looks really dreamy. They also light up the hundreds of capiz lanterns on the huge acacia trees -- one near the entrance gate to the church and the other in the garden. Really a lovely sight to behold when the sun is just starting to rise.

The way it's constructed also allows you an unobstructed view of the priest wherever you're seated. However, the place can get packed during important dates such as Easter Sunday and Christmas which makes it harder to find seats, especially later in the day when most people go to church. It can also get really hot during the summer because the place is open and it can only hold so many electric fans. But what's a little heat when you're listening to the Word of God? Amen? Amen!

For someone who has been going to this church for years, here are some tips you would thank me for. One, park not too close yet not too far. Getting out after the service can be quite tricky because of the traffic build-up. Park right in front of Daisy or Mario's. Two, hear mass during late afternoon or night schedule to avoid the harsh heat. Three, sit near an electric fan. I'm sure this does not need any explanation. Four, opt to sit in plastic chairs right outside the church, you'll get more air there. Five, know that this used to be a popular disco venue. Just a nice conversation starter to know.

The area has an ecclesiastical museum with beautiful artwork of St. Therese. The shrine also has its own Adoration Chapel and a flower shop. Mass there is something to see. The entire area is softly lighted and you can hear mass no matter where you are sitting. It is very close to the Marriott, and I understand it is used a lot for weddings with the reception at the Marriott. We simply went to mass and looked at the lovely art work. It was wonderful.

The shrine is among the most popular wedding venues in the southern areas of Metro Manila. Apart from the bright altar that makes use of natural light (making it perfect for post-wedding photo ops), the church has tastefully designed interior. Plus, it's near Manila Marriott Hotel - itself a favorite reception venue with its huge ball and function rooms. In short, if you get wed at St. Therese, you won't need a bridal car if your reception is held at Marriott Hotel. The minimum fee for a wedding at the shrine is PHP 40,000.00 and that gives you one and a half hours of air-conditioned use of the church, a basic flower package, a soloist and pianist, a royal blue carpet for the aisle, and a priest. Weddings can be pencil-booked for three days, after which an official reservation must be made with 50% downpayment. Another attraction of the shrine is the columbarium. It houses 38,000 vaults or niches which can each fit four urns. The area also has an Ecclesiastical Museum displaying artwork about the life of St. Therese. Tagaytay is home to a lot of retreat houses, convents and beautiful churches and chapels. One of my favorites is Chapel on the Hill. The place is actually located in Batulao, Batangas, but Tagaytay practically adopted that area because it's so close to their vicinity. Chapel on the Hill is a favorite for destination weddings because of its quaint interiors (no need for over the top styling as this place is already so lovely), the seating capacity is perfect for intimate celebrations (up to 200 persons can be accommodated inside the chapel), the lush greenery outside the church, and an access to a scenic view of the valley. Everything about Chapel on the Hill provides a beautiful backdrop for a dream wedding. But even without a grand event, it's still a nice place to visit for reflection when you go to Tagaytay.

What I love about this church is how beautiful the ceremonies are especially during the Holy Week. My family never fails to spend the first 2 days of the Easter Triduum at Christ the King because of the solemnity. It's extremely difficult to find parking during the Holy Week though, but on normal Sundays, you can find parking space 30 minutes before the mass. It's always difficult to leave the parking lot, though. I suggest you park nearest to the exit, and once the mass is over, sprint towards your car to leave ahead of everyone else.

It was always a pleasant experience, emotions aside, from an objective standpoint. The staff here has done a fantastic job at maintaining the cleanliness, tidiness and brightness of the place. It feels very welcoming. Having said that, I would not hesitate for a second to recommend Christ the King as a venue for any of the aforementioned life or death events. Ample parking is available as well.
