If you ever have to go to the ER and you are in Westchester County, Please do pick White Plains Hospital. Friday 2/11/2022: After my brief visit to Urgent Care NYCMed, we were discreetly recommended to go here for a more thorough exam and tests. We were ever so glad - every staff member was lovely and welcoming. The Resident MD and Nurse Practitioner both displayed superb bedside manner, articulate and clear concise explanation of diagnoses. One of the charming male nurses said that I look 25 years younger than my actual age. Thank you, Mr Nurse! It is remarkable to have a good medical center that runs like a well oiled machine, and serves what ails us professionallly and humanitarily. Well trained doctors and a good professional medical staff are a very good thing. Right, Martha? I admire White Plains Hospital's commitment to setting a stellar example. I am doing well and was sent home thankfully. Thank you for reading. UPDATE Sunday 2/13/2022: WPH has called me twice to check up on how I am doing. That is wonderful. Thank you!!!

I was an inpatient there back in early 2013. I know that was 11 years ago, but my experience there…read morewas "bittersweet" to say the least and has had a profound effect on me to this day. At first, I was in the BPD unit, forgot the name and number, until by fault of my own ( I caught feelings for someone while inpatient), I was transferred to the women's unit, 6S or 6 South because they had no strict male or men's only units there when it came down to it. I got the short end of the stick so to speak. Overall, this experience taught me to be more aware and have my guard up, especially when it comes to having a healthy relationship with the opposite sex or gender, something that the staff has discussed with me further. I liked how the psychiatrists have cared for me, in both units, coed and women's. They were very kind, compassionate, and patient, and explained the conditions well. Also, they were right on the dot with my diagnoses ( PTSD, Major Depressive Disorder or MDD, and Mood Disorder NOS or Non-Other Specified). As a current nursing student who is graduating next semester, I liked my plan of care and found it to be reasonable. The food was great too and I was able to get nutrition counseling when weight gain became a concern. I would like to give a shout-out and a warm "thank you" to Margo Benjamin, M.D. for letting me be under her care and collaborating with my neurologist at that time not only to stabilize me mentally and emotionally but also to help control my psychogenic seizures. I enjoyed their group and pet therapy sessions across both units. Here's what I feel went wrong now in my eyes as a health professional with the knowledge of psychiatric nursing and a caretaker: I felt like they all "cluster diagnosed" and labeled all female patients as bipolar or having a mood disorder. One time, I unintentionally got into the crossfires of a conflict with another patient and was unjustly "put on the tray" and barred from eating with my peers for a day or two. All I did was comment on her outburst during dinner to my peers and she cursed me out and all the nurses sided with her. All I said to my peers while eating at the same table was: "What does that have to do with anything?" during the other patient's/peer's angry rant and I was not even talking to her. I told the charge nurse, Julie Muth, about it and she blatantly and rudely disregarded my complaint. They finally let me eat with others but had me sit with a staff member "just in case." Also, I've seen how a patient with bovine insulin sensitivity was still given the same type of injection and cornered by 5 staff members despite having a possible allergy to it. I found that incident to be very traumatizing, cruel, and inhumane. It shows just how little rights you have while you are institutionalized. Another appalling thing was the fact when we had a "day of beauty" another patient threw a nail file at me and the nurse didn't do a thing about it. Another thing that turned me off and left a bad taste in my mouth so to speak was the fact that they transferred me to St. Vincent's Hospital for the day or Partial Hospitalization Program, even despite my telling them that I had a bad experience there (in the Outpatient Program already), which they brushed off because sadly, back then, they had an agreement with them, not giving patients much of a choice for alternatives on where to turn to. All in all, as they say, there is always room for improvement or change. Since this organization has such a solid rep and prestige behind it, I hope they listen to what I have to say. My experiences in places like New York Presbyterian Hospital in White Plains is why I now have…read morePTSD. I was in this "hospital" 3 times (twice in one Unit and once in a different Unit). I had the following experiences during all 3 of my times at this "hospital." You get up to 15 minutes outside per day if you're lucky (I knew someone who went over 5 weeks without being allowed to go outside). I experienced and witnessed neglect and multiple forms of abuse. I was treated rudely multiple times by several staff members including 2 psychiatrists, some psychiatric nurses, and other staff during all 3 times I was in this "hospital." I had the following experiences specifically during my 1st & 2nd stays. I am autistic and I basically had to teach the staff about autism. I experienced a form of solitary confinement for 48 hours after I told an employee that I was s*icidal. I was put on a medication with horrible side-effects without my informed consent and when an outpatient psychiatrist tapered me off of that medication later that year the withdrawal symptoms were extreme. I was FORCED to interact with a student nurse and other students attended nearly every one of my psychiatrist appointments without my consent (I literally had to YELL at my psychiatrist in order to get the students out of the room because she refused to make them leave when I tried speaking to her in a civil manner). If you are pressured into or forced to interact with students/volunteers or have them in the room during therapy, that is a violation of one of your rights as a psych patient. During my 3rd stay I was again medicated without my informed consent because I was allowed to think I had been given a mild dosage of Klonopin (which would not have caused me to become drowsy) when I had ACTUALLY been given a higher dosage of a sedative I had never experienced before. My experience with being sedated without my informed consent has made me terrified of many sleep medications and every form of sedation. I was also sexually assaulted by 2 women employees (a partial/full strip search IS a legit - yet sadly legal - form of sexual assault but some people deny it). Also, despite the fact that I had been diagnosed with autism several years prior my psychiatrist, whom had never met me before, tried to diagnose me with a personality disorder.

As a patient requiring frequent visits for blood work, and critical infusions, the efficiency and comfort of these visits are paramount to my ongoing care and well-being. All my experiences have been consistently characterized by excessively prolonged wait times, often extending two hours or more beyond my scheduled appointment times for both my physician and infusion therapy. This creates a deeply challenging and, frankly, disheartening situation, particularly given the already demanding nature of chemo treatments. A significant source of distress is the perception that patient safety and comfort, particularly for those with weakened immune systems like myself, are not being adequately prioritized. Being confined to crowded waiting areas for extended periods not only exacerbates physical fatigue but also presents a heightened risk of infection. The operational practices observed, such as seemingly pervasive overbooking and the resulting congestion in patient waiting rooms, strongly suggest that the current scheduling system is not effectively managing patient flow or capacity. This systemic inefficiency significantly detracts from the quality of care and transforms what should be a supportive and efficient medical environment into a source of considerable stress and anxiety. I am leaving MSK, Harrison and moving to an environment that is not only medically excellent but also compassionate, respectful of patient time, and prioritizes the safety and comfort of all individuals seeking care....unfortunately, this is not the place.

My rights as a disabled person were ignored that night and the male psychiatrist who locked me in a room with him came up to the unit I was on the 2nd night to tell me my dad had been out of control when he was trying to lawfully enter the office while I was having my intake (he WAS NOT out of control). This same psychiatrist also tried to convince me that my autism was not a real disability. I also woke up the first morning to find a male employee sitting in my room which was highly inappropriate. There is so much more I could say about how horrible my time at St. Vincent's was but that's enough for now. The only good thing about being at St. Vincent's was interacting with the other patients. Of particular note was a Dr. Asmin or Asmen (I might be a little off on his name). He called me to report on the condition of my 80 year old mother after a painful fall. It's wonderful that he called, and if anything he said was honest I would be writing a positive review here. Instead he swore up and down that my mother must been out of her senses when she complained about the medical staff at night moved her injured legs with complete disregard for her immense pain. The doctor promised me that not only was my mother not in pain but that she was given morphine twice. He stated the exact times the medication was given as if he was double-checking to be safe. When I arrived at the hospital I double checked with the nurses, they confirmed that no pain medications were given. I called the doctor back with the nurse at my side, and the doctor said, "honestly, your mother isn't even my patient." Mind you, he had called me, unsolicited, to inform me of how well she was being treated, when the exact opposite was true. Your hospital is pretty, but I would never trust it in a real emergency. If you have family that ends up here, know that it's on you to verify the honesty of everything the staff claims. Be safe and verify everything. 3 lies in a row from doctors isn't an error, it's a pattern showing lack of care, sloppliness, and true incompetence.
