    Old Hydro Building

Wow, what a beautiful place! I have wanted to photograph the falls for while now, but I had no idea the old original hydraulic building was there. I love taking photos of abandoned buildings and also rusted metal objects like old cars and trucks. The stone of the building is so beautiful and I think I saw the year 1810 engraved on a stone.

Right next to the building is the best spot for a dip in the water. Just DO NOT venture out this spot.

I'm a person who is not used to being outdoors and hiking around. This place was amazing! Just make sure you are ready to go down a steep trail to the water. We had kids with us and they enjoyed the water at the bottom. MAKE SURE YOU READ THE SIGN IN THE PARKING LOT ABOUT AREAS OK TO SWIM IN. Left the kids in hands of their aunts and uncles while me and the hubby ventured out. There is another waterfall down stream, just follow a trail next to the shoreline. We also venture through the other side of the buoy and caught a good view of the big waterfall you see from the parking lot. We also took a quick peek of the inside of the building. I found it super neat given its age. Once we were all done, we took the steep hike back up, and yes, I was out of breath and sore afterwards. Lol

Great view of a beautiful waterfall just 4 miles off the main highway (197). A sketchy trail down to an abandoned building isn't worth it. Just enjoy the easy view of the falls right out of the parking lot

    The water is seriously beautiful.

Not naturally formed, flooded into existence by the Dalles Dam. Without a natural circulation of water, the summer creates toxic algae harmful to humans and fish. Warning signs are posted. This weekend we got around to investing more time in the trails of Butte and it was pretty fun. The trails don't allow for a complete loop around the rock, as there's a block for restoration on the east side. But you can wander most of the way around the water side...up and around the rocks is really where's it at though. There are 3 access points to the top from the trails, and the bouldering up is loads of fun. Once atop you can roam all about and enjoy fabulous views from every angle. While the remainder of the trails at Butte are average, we found it pretty entertaining to climb around the rock portion. There's a decent amount of parking...Discover Pass required...as well at a vault toilet at the trailhead.
