My third appointment they called to reschedule. This was January. I told them that I needed an afternoon appointment. I was told they didn't have any available and would contact me when one was available. It's now August, almost September. I have found another dentist.

5 star rating for a Dentist office? Who even likes going to the dentist enough to give 5 stars?!…read moreBut seriously, this place deserves it! This office was recommended to me by a co-worker and I couldn't be happier that I chose this place as my dental office. Each and every appointment I have ever had here I have been treated with nothing but the utmost courtesy and respect by the receptionists, hygienist, and dentists. They also have always been on-time for my appointments. I've been to other dentist offices in the area where they like to try and push unnecessary cosmetic treatments on you -- this office does not do that. They will make suggestions based upon what your goals are with your teeth and that is it, but I have never felt uncomfortable here trying to be "sold" on a service or product like I have at other offices. The office itself is very nice and ample parking is available out front and they accept Penn State insurance!

My family has been seeing Dr. Anderton for several years now. My wife first went to her, and…read moreremarked that she was one of the best dentists she had ever seen, and convinced me to go (after an 8-year gap in dental visits). I went, and was very happily surprised. The office is easy to find, parking is sufficient, and the inside is very clean and modern. During the current Covid pandemic, patient safety is obviously a high priority as well, with a quick phone interview asking relevant questions, and a temperature checks at your car before you enter the building. All the hygienists we've seen are very friendly and courteous, answering any questions you have. They're also great with kids, as our daughter has gone for the past 4 years and loves it. Having a toddler eager to go to the dentist is not an experience I've heard from others very often, but ours is, which is a testament to their care. One other review mentioned that Dr. Anderton has turned into a greedy businesswoman, due to her not taking the insurance anymore (I assume it's the Penn State dental insurance). I know a little about the situation, and it's definitely not her fault. The issue, as I understand it, is that the insurance changed to require dentists to use some material for cavity fillings that tend to degrade, while Dr. Anderton insists on using high-quality fillings. That led to her not being accepted into the network. However, you can still be reimbursed from an HSA if you have one. In short, Dr. Anderton is the best dentist me, or my family, has ever had, and we'll be her happy patients for as long as we can.

I had finished ortho treatment in a different city the year before, and had basically endured almost a year of stress as my previous ortho tried to get my retainer and bite correct. By the time I saw Dr. Pine, I was admittedly a bit exhausted, uncomfortable, and freaked out by dental treatment in general. Dr. Pine and his staff were awesome: they listened to my concerns, followed up with my previous ortho, treated me with respect, and most importantly, the doctor adjusted my removable retainer and got me to a comfortable bite in probably less than 6 weeks. They also fixed my bonded lower retainer which had come loose. I remember everyone I encountered -- from reception to chairside assistants to billing -- being just exceptionally nice. To top it off, it's many years later and I'm in the market for a new retainer since the old one wore out. I e-mailed Dr. Pine from across the country to find out if he had any recommendations, since he's now the only ortho I trust and since I can't exactly fly back to Pennsylvania for appointments. Though he didn't know anyone in my neighborhood personally, he did respond warmly and right away with a couple names he'd gotten from his contacts in the field. True professional, genuine person. Would recommend him to anyone.

As a prerequisite, it needs to be stated that I take absolutely no pleasure in giving such a…read moredreadfully low rating to a doctor, -any- doctor, that appeared to have had my best interests in mind at the time. For a couple years now I debated with myself if I should even post this.. but unfortunately, as I've suffered throughout the years due to what I'd like to believe was a "mistake," this review needs to be written. In the spring of 2008, my back, right molar woke me up in the middle of the night with terrible, excruciating pain. I'm talking, baseball bat over the head agony. After calling (literally) five practices in town and coming up empty handed for any type of assistance at all, I gave Dr. Curtis a buzz. Their extremely comforting and very understanding receptionist made an appointment for me the very next morning, which I was SO grateful for. Their facilities were clean, well-lit and the staff were all incredibly welcoming and pleasant. After being taken into the examining room, I was greeting by Dr. Curtis who was also amazingly kind and accommodating. I was told I needed the standard drill & filling done. He applied a temporary filing after the cleaning and the next week, I was back for the permanent filling. At the time, I hadn't had many fillings done in the past (I'm a little obsessive with m teeth!) and was still new to the process. So unfortunately when I noticed my jaw was still inflamed and painful the week after the final filling, I fully believed them when I was told this wasn't a problem and to continue taking antibiotics for another 10 days. Time passed. I moved to Rhode Island and never had any cause to think about the filling. ....Until last year. Toward the end of 2012 I began to find myself in unbearable pain. The gums around my back, right molar were totally inflamed, my neck and glands grossly swollen and a terrible, foul liquid was draining out. Additionally, I had flu-like symptoms and severe nausea. Before I was able to get to a dentist (I had lost my job), the filling, along with half my tooth, completely fell apart. I was horrified. After financial help from my family, I finally saw a primary dentist who confirmed my worst nightmare: not only was I in need of a root canal back in 2008, but the drilling and filling were applied -on top of the exposed nerve.- This lead to a severe dental infection that slowly spread throughout my jaw bone and the rest of my body, leading to several serious health issues I'm still dealing with today. It was surprising and an absolutely terrible situation I found myself in. At the time I really felt like Dr. Curtis had done a great deal to help me but ultimately, the sloppy work I was given have caused unhealthy, dangerous repercussions I may have to deal with for the rest of my life. The moral of the story? Always question you dentist/doctor if something doesn't feel right.

The office is clean, the staff friendly and helpful, and they never do unnecessary work. They've been especially great with our child. Dr. Curtis isn't overly friendly or talkative, but some may prefer that and his staff make up for it. Regarding Marlena's review, I'm very skeptical that her problem was caused by Dr. Curtis' work. If it were, I can't believe it would take a whole year to cause problems. I'm not a dentist though, so take that for what it's worth.

During appointments, I had to ask two different dentists and a dental assistant to stop touching and patting me throughout treatment. It was not a single incidental touch, but continuous unnecessary physical contact on my arm or shoulder, which was highly unusual and felt invasive. A hygienist also used my chest as a resting surface for her instruments, dropping tools onto it repeatedly during cleaning. I found the experience physically uncomfortable and jarring. I continued going there for several years because, to their credit, they eventually noted my discomfort in my chart and the unwanted touching stopped. However, at my last appointment I was 7 minutes late because of an unexpected domestic issue that arose as I was leaving the house. I called ahead to let them know. When I arrived, I was told they could no longer see me as a patient because I was "always" late, which was simply untrue. I had often arrived on time and had also waited 20 to 30 minutes for the office when it was running behind, including one occasion when the wait was closer to 40 minutes. What felt especially unfair was that I was never given any warning about lateness policies before being abruptly dismissed from the practice after arriving for my appointment. There were no prior conversations, notices, or written warnings in their appointment communications. Being refused treatment and permanently dropped as a patient on the spot over being 7 minutes late was disproportionately harsh and humiliating. A basic courtesy conversation or warning beforehand would have made the situation feel far less unnecessarily severe. Overall, I found the practice disrespectful of personal boundaries and needlessly punishing toward me as a longtime patient.
