What is does offer is some great views…read moreacross the Dublin Bay; from Dalkey Island off to Bray head the whole coast line is visible to you and on a sunny day it's breathtaking; whilst on a not-so-sunny day it is also great to park up and watch the waves crash in, something I love doing on a stormy day. It's quite a stoney beach though when the tide is out there is better stretches of sand to sit/lay out on. As a beach nearby me, it's lovely to take a stroll here early morning or late evening, the peace and again beauty of the views just makes it a true relaxing haven to unwind and clear the mind. There are public toilets as well as ample parking, it is pay and display Mon-Fri however all other times, it's free game. There isn't shops nearby so if you are planning the day out here, make sure to pack the beverages and sandwiches otherwise it's a little track to the nearest village.

The beach lies at the bottom of the cliff path between Sutton and Howth. It is directly beneath the house that was occupied by the Jameson family (yes the whiskey dudes) and there is a little tunnel from the house that leads to the cliff path. They had children who liked to swim in the ocean but they were worried that they might swept out to sea and end up on the beach in Wales. So Mr.Jameson built a wall in the sea and in doing so created a makeshift seawater swimming pool. There is a big diving rock on the outer edge and a small little pool in the shallows for the littlest swimmers. Sadly due to the power of the sea a lot of the walls have crumbled but you can still see them at low tide. The beach itself is quite small but the views are spectacular. The path down although partly paved is steep and rocky so not suitable for small kids or those unsteady on their pins. To get to the beach you can walk up along the cliff path from Sutton or walk down from the Summit or Carrickbrack Road - There are a few other access points to the cliff walk

Tucked away behind Bulloch Castle, Bulloch Harbour isn't crowded with tourists, despite it's proximity to the Dalkey Dart station. My first real acquaintance with Bulloch Harbour came late last year when I was looking for a location to shoot a short film. The locating of a location (ha! see what i did there?) for this film was fraught with difficulties, due to the fact that part of the action took place (a) in a boat, and (b) at night. A nighttime shoot in a boat, what could be more easy to organise? Nevertheless, the good folks who fish in Bulloch Harbour not only gave us a boat and brought us round in it (at nighttime, in the freezing depths of November), but also gave us the use of their little shack, offered to make tea... couldn't meet nicer people. And one of our key shots would have been ruined had they not provided us with an additional extension cord, so thanks a million lads. In non-filmmaking related points of interest, boats can be rented at Bulloch during the summer, and the harbour has a couple of resident tame seals. If Tony sees you with a camera out, he might get one of them to lumber up the steps to take a piece of fish from his hands. An overlooked little gem, just south of the city.

This is stuff great childhood memories are made of. Fantastic. Now I've not had the chance to get into the water here, but it looks pretty good to me.... as long as I have my wet suit ;) There are great facilities here too, a car park, lifeguards during the summer months and decent enough toilets WITH toilet paper. I would imagine the toilets are abused on busy days... sorry that's the cynic in me, so BYOP. The notice board here is full of useful information also, including info to a website called www.jellyfish.ie. Who knew that existed, I didn't :) There is also a but... the south car park costs 4 EUR to get into. OK, so the money goes towards the car park, the lifeguard and the toilet maintenance. But I do think this is a bit steep if you are just dropping in for a look. But if you are going for the whole day, its fine. FYI the car park gates are unmanned and take coins, so make sure you have the right coinage with you before to depart for Brittas Bay. Also, the south car park closes at 8pm according to signs.

In summer I never swim here as it is usually packed. In winter it is a great place to come and meet people who are equally obsessed with the amazing restorative abilities of the sea. Sadly these people are usually older than I am by 2 or 3 decades. Its the people in their 30s, 40s and 50s who have most to gain from this free mental and physical therapy...

There's just something about the sea air and the sound of the waves that makes everything feel like it's just fine. It's quite a rocky beach, so unless you know the tides very well, sandcastle enthusiasts will be very disappointed. At low tide, it's just flat enough for a run, but otherwise it's a bit of an obstacle course. The water seems to be clear enough, occasionally more sea-weedy but I think if you could handle the cold you could have quite a nice swim here! As far as I know you can walk all the way to Bray on this stretch, though admittedly I never had the energy. Lovely place for a walk with your dog, or to plonk down and contemplate life.

This place is incredibly dog friendly (off leash) so you will be greeted by dozens of furry pups running around. There is a slight uphill climb on the trail at one point but it is paved and not too bad overall. Once you get to the top there are wonderful 360 views of the city, and the water including a beautiful obelisk on the top of the hill. You can see Wales from a distance, the city of Dublin and the Wicklow Mountains. Highly recommend this spot, especially if you want to escape touristy Dublin.

Needless to say, I'm not a fan. Yes, it's handy because it's on the DART line, but so are Killiney and Malahide, and they're in another league altogether. Seapoint's like the ugly one that tries desperately to fit in with the others, but just can't, no matter how hard they try. Oh, and it lost their blue flag, which was it's single redeeming feature. However, it's a popular bathing spot, and there are crazy diehards who swim here every day. Mad altogether, but Seapoint's actually OK if you are swimming as opposed to paddling. So I'm told anyway...why you would swim in Irish waters is beyond me.

I am human after all. The tide was out on Sunday when we wandered along but I can easily see it being even more picturesque with the waters at their fullest, mayhaps on a winters afternoon all wrapped up warm and indulging in a Teddys Ice-cream (It's never too cold for Teddys) The pics attached give an idea of what it's like, to be sure it's not a long walk but enjoyable. There are also signs up for pier fishing which I'm totally going to try sometime soon.

If you are a fan of boats, yachts, cruiseliners, there is always activity out in the bay so you can catch them coming in and out of Dun Laoghaire or even in and out of Dublin Port. The bay is also home to plenty of swimming competitions plus when in season local rowing teams often have regatta's out in the Bay and what better way to catch it all than a prime seat along this promenade. So I mentioned a winter's day too... Yes, be prepared and wrap up well but yep, what I love about it is that on a during high winds and stormy days, the noise of the waves crashing and the spectacular views along the shore front is amazing. If you are a keen photographer, again these action shoots could prove super rewarding after a day being soaked and battered by all Irish weather has to give. So whether a peaceful stroll or taking up a seat to watch the world go by... this is just the place!
