Very interesting and well put together museum. Lots of history. Take your time and you'll be fascinated by all the artifacts.

Wouldn't let me in with my AZ Drivers License. The Army base is choosing to enforce at an earlier date. Beware. Won't be let in. Per the guard "you are not allowed to travel with this ID". I told him AZ has until May 7 and we are allowed to travel and it is valid until that date but he declined. read more

Make sure you go for the main website to get into the museum. Also, it takes about an hour to see everything. When it comes to taking pictures, make sure you follow directions cause they are very strict. Once you get to experience the missile range. The indoor museum has a lot of historical views about white sands, New Mexico, and other historical events. Nice place to visit. read more

Fun place to spend an hour. Stopped by here on our way back from White Sands Monument. It is located on the military camp and so ID is required to get in. It's behind the military base security gates. There's a lot of old retired missiles and planes from decades ago. Very cool piece of history. read more

Worst experience! The Officer at the gate was pleasant. He instructed us to the office where we had to register. That was the first and last pleasant encounter at this site. The two incompetents sitting inside the office probably used to work at Californias DMV. I GET IT, you have to check if everyone is cleared to enter the base. But UNTIL something negative shows up on your computer how 'bout making it a pleasant experience for your museum visitors? And how about informing your visitors on the museum status? Open?...Closed? Where NOT to point your camera... instead of 'You'll have to erase your picture.' As hot as it was getting I would've passed on the visit knowing the exhibit buidings were closed due to staffing issues. New Orleans has a Great WW2 Museum. Inside a cooled building with pleasant staff. Get some tips and hints from them on how to make a history venue an interesting one. First and last time here. read more

When you approach the gate, park in one of the 14 spaces to the right (2 handicapped spots). Bring in your ID to the registration office. Take a number, sign-in, and wait to have your photo taken. A unisex bathroom is inside, and plenty of seats if you have a long wait. Our wait was short. It's better to walk to the museum as your vehicle will be thoroughly searched if you drive in. The museum is just a short walk away. It seems small, but it has plenty to offer. You can read everything or peruse the displays. A building next door houses the V2. Outside this holding is a large area of missile, rockets, and more. You can take photos, but remember to have the mountains, not the base, in the background. read more

First, be warned. You have to go through security to get to the museum. Be sure to bring ID. We had no trouble and the whole process took 5 minutes. You do have to park outside of security and walk to the museum. It is a about a 5 minute walk. There is an indoor and outdoor section. The indoor section shows the history of the area and the military complex. The museum is not well organized. I enjoy military history, so I found it ok. But it is just so haphazard. The outdoor portion consists of old missiles and aircraft. There are some great photo ops here. I enjoyed seeing this, but there is limited information. While the subject matter is cool, the museum itself is lacking in organization. An average experience. read more

Make sure you have your ID! When you approach the gate be sure to pull off to the right side and park. If the reception center is closed see the guard at the entrance for your pass to walk on the base and see the museum and missile exhibit. It's a short walk and you can get there faster than if you waited for them to search your car and belongings to let you drive on. The museum is self guided (and free) with plenty of displays and clean restrooms if needed. Most of the water fountains didn't work so bring your own water if it's warm out. The outside display is weathered but interesting. Watch out for rattle snakes. read more

This place was wonderful, I was like a kid in a candy store. A must for you V-2 rocket fans since here is one of the most complete in existence;the rocket lies horizontally w/i a protective bldg with certain panels removed so that one can observe the key internal components. This example was the range's last remaining example and so the rocket underwent a complete restoration in 2002. The paint scheme is that of yellow and black, like the one first tested here after WWII, 1946. Also heart stopping was seeing among other things a Pershing II ( one of six in the US) and launcher. read more

There is a security office that you have to go to in order to get paperwork that will let you come onto the base. The guys at the office were really gruff at first but once we were cleared they seemed a lot friendlier. They need your ID to take your name and address as well as your phone number which you write down on the sign in sheet. Your picture is also taken. If you plan to drive onto the base you have to give them your car registration and insurance so you're better off leaving your car in the parking area and just walking to the museum. The museum itself is diverse but there isn't really a flow to it. The majority of it was artifacts and pictures strewn all over the place. The first room is a mix of local, ancient, and military history prior to the establishment of the missile range/base. The larger part of the building is all about the aeronautic history of the range and a showcase of the kinds of rockets that were developed. There were signs saying that work is in progress on reorganizing the exhibits but I couldn't tell what was purposely placed and what was left over. The second building housed the V-2 missile display and the outside garden held the skeletal remains of various rockets and missiles. This was neat but there was no shade so I just took a quick look and left. I don't think you have to check out with the guards before you leave because they saw me walk past and to the parking lot without stopping me. read more

The museum's outdoor exhibit is open to public from until to sunset. Not sure why some yelpers have reported this as 'closed'. They respond on phone number on the yelp link. Great place, worth a visit!!! If you are in the area, it is a must visit museum even with the outdoor exhibits. You can spend an hour or so with kids and adults of all ages! Enjoy! And yes, the indoor exhibits are closed for renovations. read more

Don't be put off by all the threatening signs on the way to the museum. We almost turned around thinking we were in the wrong place! Instead of driving right up to the security gate we pulled off to the right where there was a reception center. It was closed so my husband spoke to the the security guard. He was very nice. Told us to park in the little lot right where we were and took our licenses to run a security clearance. It was just around 4pm and the museum was closed for the day but they were happy to let anyone walk around the missiles just outside the museum. Gave us instructions on where to walk and what to/not to take pictures of and off we went. Most of the missiles had information boards. They were a great read with some cool history. We were there or about an hour and we partially know this because the reveille is played at 5pm. We didn't know the protocol till we noticed that cars were stopped right where they were driving & people were out of the cars standing to attention. So just a hint: if you hear trumpets playing at 5pm, just stop for a minute and take it in. read more

This museum took a little longer to get into since we are not active duty military. We did not know that prior to going. Basically we parked our car outside the gates and had to wait for a background check by the police on guard. It only took about 5 minutes. We could have driven on, but then we would have had to get our car and all the contents checked. No big deal, but since it was full of luggage it would have required more time. The officer was extremely friendly & helpful. We were happy we waited. A lot of history here. Besides the large outdoor area with missles and such, there are 2 buildings. One only holds a V2 missle but the other one holds tons of artifacts & pictures from before it even was a missile range to the Trinity site. JFK actually visited there in 1963. There is space dedicated to him. read more

A must see if you're in or close to the area. As others have said, a brief visit to base security is required before entering this active base. If you're a vet and have a DOD Identification card bring it as it will expedite your entrance. There are two venues, an indoor museum and outdoor area filled with static displays. Tour at your own pace. I personally found a separate area dedicated to Bataan Death March in Philippines a very interesting tribute. read more

Basic museum with a variety of missiles, rockets, and bombs. Outdoor park is self-guided with clear descriptions. Everyone in our group enjoyed it. If you're driving to White Sands National Monument from Las Cruces and have an hour to spare, worth the time. Free with clean bathrooms. read more

This place was fantastic. My family really enjoyed looking at the missiles that were on display in the outside area and going inside the museum and looking at all the history from White Sands Missile Range throughout the decades of missile testing. If you are interested in artillery, military history, or even US history then you should go. Plan to be there half a day or more. Very cool collection of missiles, bombs, rockets, etc. It was a little hassle to get paperwork done and checked out to drive the couple hundred feet into the base and to the museum. Once there, the rocket park is pretty amazing, though there were a few rockets that had fallen over and about a quarter of the rockets had no information by them at all. The museum itself was a big small and closed kind of early (4pm). read more

Very interesting tour. So we didn't fully realize that this is still an active military installation. We had to go through a thorough check point and had to present DL, insurance and registration to enter the base. The tour itself is self guided inside and outside. The museum is way dated but still interesting. The missiles outside are something to be seen. My personal favorites of the tour was the info on the Manhattan Project and learning about the Trinity site. read more

Beautiful and otherworldly. Perfect for a walk and for photography. I wish I had more time to spend here, but I definitely plan on returning. Pro tip: Make sure to bring a backpack with water, a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses and a snack! Oh and bring your own snow disk or sled for some extra fun! This is really just an outdoor exhibit, not a museum. But the missiles and aircrafts are pretty cool. Worth 30-60 minutes if you're driving through, but I definitely wouldn't make a trip just for this. read more

So I will start this review with a question. Has anybody been asked to submit to a online background check to enter a museum before? We were. As far as I could tell, most, if not all missiles and other weapons displayed have been a part of America's arsenal for quite a few years. I was stationed out at WSMR over 30 years ago. We just happen to be vacationing in the area. I decided that it might be cool to show the family some of the missiles, that I worked on, during my tour out there. But to subject my wife and kids to a background check just to enter a missile park of antiquited weapons? That's taking things a bit too far for me. Great Disappointment. read more

We arrived on Monday during normal operating hours. Museum building was closed. Tried two different telephone numbers that weren't answered. New construction may have closed the museum building. Construction seems to have eliminated RV and bus parking. Outside static displays were still available to walk through. Some signage appears to be missing and some rockets/missiles appear to need re-erecting. It would have been nice to have viewed a historical summary of how these displays tied together. read more
