Ice cream is from Reed's Dairy, which is always delicious. The fried pies are sooo good. They have both sweet and savory. My favorite was the gyro for savory. Sweet little hand pies? Yes, please! The White Sparrow Country Store brings both country chic and delicious, old fashioned hand pies (and Reed's Dairy ice cream!) As soon as we walked in, I fell in love with the decor. The exposed wood and white interior made me want to remodel my kitchen. I ordered a peach pie and my fiancé ordered the banana cream pie (it was the Easter special). The peach pie was good but could use a little extra sweetness, in my opinion. Thankfully, there was powdered sugar on the table - though, I probably should've went for some ice cream. My fiancé's banana cream pie was the opposite. Super sweet but equally delicious. Pre-warning for anyone with a nut allergy...the pies are fried in good ol' fashioned peanut oil. We'll be back soon! I have my eye on a Nutella and strawberry pie next. read more

My sweet grandma has been gushing about White Sparrow for months now, and a few weeks back we were finally able to plan a girls trip to visit and check out this Mecca of pie glory. We arrived on a Saturday around 2pm, well past the time I would expect a lunch rush, yet all parking along the storefront was taken, and they were still a-hoppin' with a line out the door! No worries in respect to parking as this is out in the country and you've got plenty of space along the street, but do beware of a long wait if they are busy. Our large group got in line and waited about ten minutes to order. Afterward, we tried to get two tables together, but seating inside is so limited we ended up with one table and all the seats at the (gorgeous marble) bar. Just an FYI if you've got a similarly large group. It may be advantageous to just take your order to go. While we waited, we meandered along the pantry-style shelves lining the dining area wall, spying all manner of candies, chocolates, cookies, and cute merch including teas and baseball caps. Next, we stepped into the actual shop in the adjoining room. They are definitely channeling some Magnolia vibes, and there ain't no shame in that. WS has basically done the same thing at a much smaller scale, taking an 1800's building and renovating it into a restaurant and gift shop. My favorite finds included mugs, candles, local soaps, sweet dish towels, and beautiful blankets. Also, the bathroom is not to be missed, which might be weird, but I adored it from the penny tile to the gold fixtures and luxe wallpaper. Now back to our visit, we ended up waiting 45 minutes for our group's orders to be delivered. After 55 minutes, mine and one of my sister's orders had not arrived, and everyone else in our party had been served. Upon inquiry, turns out WS had run out of receipt paper and as a result, our orders were somehow lost. They apologized profusely and made them in about ten minutes, but at that point we'd waited over an hour, which is just too much. WS is still relatively new, definitely working out the kinks, and I can be understanding, but it was a pretty big bummer. We didn't get to eat there as everyone was ready to go by then, so I ended up lugging my order back to my grandmas, then home across state lines. Reheated in the oven the pies were pretty good, but of course would have been better fresh. I did try the gyro pie in-house, and it was great. I especially enjoyed the melty feta. The strawberries and cream pie was also yummy. They are fried, which might blow your mind. Prior to White Sparrow, I certainly didn't know this was a thing. The shell is not as thick and flaky as a traditional pie crust, rather softer and more moist. They remind me of Russian piroski, and less like a traditional pie shell, but it is not necessarily a bad thing, just different. While prices for food are quite low at $3-$4 pies, and various combination meals around $10, the gift-y items are much higher, though the quality cannot be argued. They also have macarons, fancy flavored sodas, and coolers full of a variety of bottled soft drinks. There are also more sundry snacks like granola bars, chips, etc (different from the specialty ones previously mentioned). Employees here were all so so sweet and pleasant, even in the face of the unrelenting pastry demanding public. Even with the long wait I would have enjoyed the experience, as we had a great time shopping and checking the darling building out. Losing our orders, however, deflated the fun a bit. I would absolutely return, only on a weekday to lessen the wait and potential for error. Also, the pies are so perfectly packed in little paper sacks that they are easily taken home. We have stopped here the last two years. I have to ask "where is the owner"? We have spent 1 1/2 hours waiting for the pies and ice cream etc completely unprepared for business. Not understaffed but unprepared would be my warning for other visitors. read more

These pies were great! I got the gyro pie and it was deeeelicious!! We also got the Nutella and strawberry pie which wasn't great because the strawberries are from a jar w/syrup and not fresh. This is such a cute store and it's great to have a small country store nearby. I love the selection of southern fried pie and the Magnolia style of home decor. I wish there were more tables and chairs to sit in since it's a fun place to hang out at. Also, the line could be better outlined since it can get messy if there's a lot of people. Such a cute store plus delicious food! We went for a simple girls night escape and we're not disappointed. While our food cooked we browsed the store. It's rare to find somewhere you can still get penny candy. Lots of home decor for sale. I love the towels and stickers. Candles smelled so good, I'll be back for those. The food was divine. There are places I would like to go back again because the food is awesome, the atmosphere is great and the staff is always friendly. This is one of them. The pies are crispy on the outside and hot in the inside. I got the Don't Go Bacon My Heart, sister-in-law got the Gyro, everyone else got the A Pizza My Heart. My wife also tried the strawberries and cream pie and I the peach pie. All pies are so good that we ordered a second round-- every single one of us. And there are 10 in our party! Definitely 5 + stars and definitely coming back before we leave back for Hawaii. Also, items in the "Cottage" are reasonably priced. Daughter got a cap that says "local." I guess that can pass in Hawaii, too! Also great are the Idaho Moonshine made of root beer, butterscotch, vanilla and cream. if i could i would give this store zero stars, and very overhyped. The one bathroom was out of order and none of the tables were wiped down in the 30 mins i was in there. im not a covid nazi but regardless not wiping down tables after a family of 5 dripped their pies all over the tables and counters isn't for me fam. A friend I was with ordered the farmer's pie, but there must have been a miscommunication because she got a barf bag filled with soup. My boyfriend got the nutella pie and there was more filling dripping out than there was making it into his stomach. A friend of mine brought me here a few months ago and I promptly forgot the name of the place. I was so upset that I couldn't remember, because it was such a great experience and I've been wanting to go back! I was able to find it again today and am so glad. It's ok. Everything seemed very expensive. I was hoping to find something worth the price. Very long wait. Very uncomfortable as we were the only ones wearing masks. It was a small space with a lot of people packed in at time when Rexburg was one of the highest per capita infection rates in the nation. You would hope at least the staff would set an the expectation for meeting Covid guidelines. Overall it wasn't enough to draw me back even though we live near. Big family. Went in to celebrate my eldest birthday with a pie and icecream. She ordered a pie, the rest of us ordered icecream. They waited 30 min before even making the icecream cones. Then they served those that came in after us before us (and I just mean icecream, people who ordered icecream after we did) . And our ice cream was being made by 1 person, so it took another 15 min to serve our whole group (that is when they actually started serving us). The icecream was so melted by the time my son got his that it broke through the waffle cone and he had no choice but to throw it away. It took a total of 45 min to serve 6 people icecream.
