It is definitely refreshing to see somewhere in Durham city centre with a lot of variety. I was especially impressed by the variety of gin. They had local Durham Gin, which is definitely worth trying as well as a few others. The bar staff were friendly and it was quite busy while I was in (and this was during the day) so beware as it may be a lot busier evenings and weekends. This definitely somewhere I'll be hanging out more often and sampling many of the different beers.

I rarely, if ever, see the typical undergraduate student population here. The Vic is everything you want a pub to be. The atmosphere is quintessential British pub. No TVs, no music, just nice old wood, vintage pictures and fireplaces. It is consistently rated as one of Britains top B&Bs and is a go-to place for real ales (silver star CAMRA rating), friendly people and a strong whiskey. The Vic is all charm and there is a reason is it a favorite with both locals and visitors.

I've had the macaroni and cheese and the karaage chicken. The chicken was absolutely delicious, while I'd give the macaroni more of a 3.5/5. Not hugely flavorful and the sauce was quite runny while the pasta was a bit too soft. To be fair, I am used to American style, which I've observed can be quire different than how the British prepare mac n cheese, so that could be a factor in my rating.
