But, Mack is an interesting one - half deep, half shallow & the shallow side (about 3'6" IIRC) gets pretty shallow for me, and then the bulkhead separating the family/kids pool to the main 25 yd pool has holes in it so I've definitely flipped turned and hit the floor and/or stuck my foot against a hole rather than a wall haha.

Had a great experience here!…read more 10 stars for the staff (seriously such nice and knowledgable humans), but not so many stars for smelling like a sweaty gym. The restrooms were very clean though! So it's been about 15 years since I've done any belaying and ~nearly 10 years since I've done any bouldering! Basically a newbie all over again. Both rooms (one side is belaying, top roping and the other for only bouldering and competition bouldering) were PACKED on a Sunday afternoon. I'll be back to do a starter package sometime, and I'l have to find a time that's a little less crowded. It did start to clear out around ~5pm-ish. People are very respectful of others' space and move quickly so I felt like I always had something to try. Lots of kiddos here too so fairly family friendly place. They have staff around the rooms too in case you need anything. Ethan was great! It's also pretty sweet that they have a full coffee shop set up in there too. Some people were just sitting, reading, chatting, etc. The offerings look tasty!

After that horrible experience, I decided to change her lessons to one-on-one private lessons with a different instructor. It was mainly a sweet girl named Julia who worked with my daughter. My daughter became so excited about swimming! Julia was very patient with my daughter and after the lesson, she'd come right up to me and explain to me everything they went over, and what we needed to work on at home. So even though our first experience here was god-awful, our visits after were so that I'm still giving it 5 stars. Also it is a very nice pool to hang out around with ample swimming pools/areas. Really large shallow wading pool for young children.

Man, it's rarely open. This season it hasn't even been open at all because of a mechanical issue and last summer it had several closures and hiccups throughout the season. And when it was open, a good part of the pool (the deep end) was closed off because they were short staffed. That means that all the other spaces got extra crowded, which wasn't the best scenario for a relaxing swim. Such a bummer! It's walking distance from my house so I REALLY REALLY want to love it, and mostly I REALLY REALLY want to visit it but we just can't because it's still been closed. We still walk our dog through the park, and I love the baseball games and checking out all the rad skaters in the skate park, but the pool is just a real bummer.

Team member spotlight: Will…read more I absolutely love this rec center and gym. It has become one of my favorite places to work out and reset. Parking is always plentiful and easy, which immediately makes the experience stress free. The hours work perfectly for my schedule, especially since I usually go in the morning to early afternoon. There is so much to do here. I have not taken any of the classes yet, but I love knowing they are available and plan to explore them eventually. One of my favorite features is the indoor track. I am also really looking forward to the indoor pool reopening and am excited about the addition of saunas. Saunas are such an important part of overall health and recovery, so that will be a great upgrade. Cleanliness really stands out here. The locker rooms, bathrooms, equipment, and common areas are consistently well maintained. I regularly see staff cleaning throughout the facility, which makes a big difference. The people here are genuinely kind and welcoming. Will, William, in particular, is wonderful. He is always friendly, personable, and remembers me and my family. I also notice how engaged he is with other members, which adds to the sense of community. There is a nice balance of ages here. You do occasionally see younger children, usually elementary age, participating in day or after school programs near the basketball courts, but it never feels overwhelming. I also love that they offer pickleball and a variety of other activities, which makes the space feel inclusive and active for everyone. Overall, this is a clean, well run facility with a strong community feel. I truly enjoy coming here and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a welcoming and well maintained rec center and gym.

The weight area isn't watched by employees and is abused by guests. The pool on the other hand is always supervised by a life guard. It's clean and gets lots of use. The water aerobics classes were a lot of fun. They also offer Zumba, basketball, and ping pong. The ping pong table is also in a weird spot, right in front of the ladies locker room. It feels a little weird opening the door to walk in with a bunch of guys playing ping pong. They were always nice but it just seems a little odd. The showers and locker rooms were always clean. They even had a cool swimsuit drying machine, so you don't have to put a wet suit back into bags. Overall, inexpensive and provides a lot of options for getting exercise

Membership is very expensive - nearly $500/yr for an individual - and you don't get much benefit. Slightly less expensive clinics (like $5/class) and there are almost never courts available nights/weekends to rent. I do not see the value or benefit. The adult clinics are "ok" at best. Let me preface that the instructors are VERY nice. As people, I like them alot. That being said, the structure leaves a lot to be desired. The Sunday night classes are very slow paced with wayyyyy too much time being spent on stories and anecdotes. A 90 minute class with 30 of those minutes being a warm-up. Lots of standing around time vs. actual playing. The most beneficial time spent is with the 2nd instructor when he pulls a small group aside for personalized feedback and instruction. The Thursday night class is good, but it's so late - 8-9pm - and only an hours length. I wish there were more night/weekend options and with other instructors. Overall it's a decent choice in the area, but the membership fees are astronomical with very little value.

I started playing at HVTC in late August 2018, in a Saturday adult clinic, and immediately feel in love with the place. Very friendly and helpful front desk people, great and encouraging pros, and of course, the love and dedication to our shared passion for tennis! Look no further: this is THE place to be for tennis in Ann Arbor! More details: Adult tennis clinics/lessons: various programs throughout the day/week. If you're unsure, simply ask the front desk staff: super friendly and helpful! The clinics are very well structured and organized. All the pros are super nice! They may have different teaching styles/approaches, but they are all very encouraging, observing, and willing to help (consider this: I've taken lessons with almost all the pros in the club while I was there). Recreational leagues (adult women's): I've only participated in the inter-club league (daytime) and some USTA teams. There's also occasional friendly competitive playing such as the mixed doubles social. Anne S., the USTA coordinator, does an amazing job of taking care of one's need/preference to play on a team, even if this person doesn't know anyone (like how I was when I first got there). Administrative staff: like I have mentioned above, everyone is nice and willing to help! They go up and beyond to answer any questions that you may have. And this is beyond just midwest sweetness! Summary: I wish I could have found out about this club earlier while I was in Ann Arbor for grad school... Despite the short time as a member of club, I hold this place very close to my heart. It is not just "love at first sight". It is a community, dear long lasting friendship, and most importantly, a home to me that will stand behind me all the time! P. S. Non-residents have to pay extra for daily passes or memberships. They gyms are clean and have nice equipment. They do offer classes like Tai Chi and yoga. Nice indoor walking track, that I think you can use for free if you sign in. They also have weight loss challenges to encourage you. The pools are indoors and stunning! Hot tubs, current pools, lap pools, leisure pools, competition pools and water slides! Zero entry for children, they even have sprinklers and water guns, buckets that dump over. It is a gem in the community. The locker/shower rooms are clean and safe.
